Backstreet Boys: Show 'Em What You're Made Of
dusang replied to SosaLola's topic in Specials, TV Movies & Other One-Offs
I don't know what the root "situation" you're referring to is. Is that itself a spoiler? -
You can have all the body-positive messaging possible at home but in the world every girl is inundated with images like this. No matter how many times your parents, friends, loved ones, or even your own rational mind tells you these are insane, unrealistic, unattainable beauty standards achieved primarily through starvation and Photoshop this shit gets to you in ways big and small.

Benedict Cumberbatch: Not Your Father's Sherlock

Whoa, I had not seen the side view of her dress before -- now that's maternity evening wear done right!! -
I hope it will get a sequel, because, as my friend put it "I was amused and entertained." But they've actually launched a full-scale Kingsman clothing line so as the director himself put it, if they don't have a sequel, someone's losing a lot of money. I saw it on Saturday after having read some of this board and knowing a bit of what was coming -- I still didn't realize that was Mark Hamill until the end when my friend told me. Also, I was disappointed at the dog thing too. Only a total sociopath could look JB in the eye and shoot him!! The heads blowing up was a little over the top -- and it would appear that all of the world's leadership is now dead, so cleaning up this mess will be nearly impossible -- but I did like that they completely and totally ignored the inherent gore factor with bloodless explosions and attractively headless bodies left behind during the Gazelle/Eggsy fight sequence.

Trailers & New Movies: Coming Soon to a Cinema Near You!
dusang replied to nymusix's topic in Everything Else About Movies
Yeah, I totally wasn't into the trailer. Until the locker room scene where he's flexing his pecs and suddenly I had an incredible desire to see the film. I don't know why. -
I know nothing about Aquaman, although I do know what I trident is. However, I just did a Google image search on Aquaman to find out what he's looked like over the years and there are versions of the trident that have three primary prongs and two much smaller prongs on the sides, so they might be going for that look. (I do not know how to post a picture though, so you'll have to take my word for it. Incidentally, the search also brought back fan art of proposed actors for Aquaman, including Simon Baker and Ryan Phillippe -- I have to say I'm pleased they didn't go for the clean cut, blondie boy look. Of course, I'm generally just happy to look at Jason Momoa in all circumstances so... I might be biased.).

Does she know that? I don't know much about her but I somehow feel like she might be a little closer to the "delusional American Idol auditioner" side of self-awareness, if you know what I mean. The real kick in the pants is that, not only do the critics hate it, the audience rating is dropping rapidly (pre-release it was over 80% and ow it's down to 49%). I really wonder how it will fare at the box office in weekend #2.

Sgt. Terry Jeffords: He Needs Nutrients!
dusang replied to David T. Cole's topic in Brooklyn Nine-Nine
Terry loves art! -
And a painting class! But, he did get to work at 10 or 10:30. (I still wouldn't get up early enough to do any of those things. Or eat breakfast.)

Okay, in addition to my dislike of this being classified as "BDSM" when it is not BDSM, the other thing that bothers me is that it is a really bad book. Like, regardless of the content, the stalker crazy behaviour, the psuedo-BDSM, whatever, this book is terrible. I literally could not read the whole thing it was so bad. And, although I know that many writers are rewarded far beyond their talent, it still hurts me on some deep (yet irrational) level. As many other people on this board have noted, there are really good erotica writers out there writing crazy hot BDSM sex. I just want people to read that!! ETA: Jamie Dornan was on Graham Norton and I thought this was hilarious -- Graham surveys the audience and finds only one man who has read the books and, when asked if he like them, he says "no, they're shite." (at about 1:20)

I love that both Gina and Jake really, truly appreciated and valued the rock paintings they received at the end of the episode.

The compliance program seems a lot more Clockwork Orange than proximity based hypnotism.

That was inordinately delightful. And agreed on Ewan. Just, in all things at all times.

The initial experimentation was during the war (so he could survive the fall) but the mechanical arm and brainwashing came sometime after the fall, possibly after the war. Also, my understanding was that he had been in and out of cryogenic storage over the years (which is how he lasted the 70 years) so he might just be on ice right now awaiting modifications.

Oh sweet Jeebus!! I'm watching this on YouTube and the first 17 minutes alone are AMAZING!! Despite his terrible performance in a terrible movie that he should have had better sense than to make I just cannot not love Jamie Dornan. And Julie Walters is amazing. And British humour generally. And the one dude in the audience who said he read the books and that "they were shite." (at 8:45) AHahahahahahahaha!!!!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FDLHphar_-s

I was actually surprised that Canada wasn't mentioned in the piece on tobacco -- although we don't change the logo, at least 50% of the package is covered with warnings and graphic images. Although you have to have already made the decision to purchase the cigs before you'll see it -- the shelves holding cigarettes are behind the cash and are covered so there is no tempting display.

Yeah, a friend and I had a conversation where she thought CC might put up enough money to bring him back to TDS but seeing the ads in Uruguay and the shirts in Togo, I knew he'd never go back.

What bothers me the most is actually the continued labelling of this as BDSM. It is not BDSM. I'm not part of that community and my understanding of it is superficial at best but from what I know if it, actually desiring to just inflict pain is not what it is about - even when being whipped there should be some form of pleasure or sexual stimulation for both parties. This is not that.

She was "Christmas" right? So she also got the line about "I thought Christmas came only once a year."

I sometimes worry that John is severely limiting his future travel options.

I was thinking of that comparison, too, but then realized you may actually see more on HBO than in this movie. God bless the Swedish.

It'll probably end up in exactly the same place. I'm just happy for the gender reversals to begin. -

I'm almost embarrassed how hard I laughed at these trailers. -
I just feel so confused about Dornan's Christian. I really do want to know if the woodeness was a result of the accent, the actor's ability, the actor's level of interest, or deliberate character choices made by the director and horrible on-set author. From the very beginning I've felt that no actor deserved this terrible thing on their CV and I was really, really sad when Hunnam was announced because I think he's sufficiently established to not have to sell his soul in this manner. And when I saw Dornan on Graham Norton I was sad for him too but maybe he can use the career boost and whatever and he seems like a good actor so I thought he would be serviceable in the role. But it's.... pretty bad. But then could anyone say this dialogue well? Like how can you possibly measure? (Personally, I think there was some chemistry there it's just that almost every line he said was like record-scratch awkward.)
