IOC and Other Officials: feat. Bond Villain Kitty Chiller
Rick Kitchen replied to SnideAsides's topic in 2016 Olympics
Kuala Lumpur/Singapore, Doha, Casablanca, Nairobi, Cairo, Johannesburg, and Buenos Aires are all putting together bids for 2028. -
Clayton Kershaw is on the DL, but with the All Star Break coming up, if it's just a 15 day DL, he might miss only a couple of starts. Madison Bumgarner will be batting tonight in Oakland, instead of the Giants using a DH.

I've been arguing in the YouTube comments (yeah, that's a lost cause) on a video where people were taking a test, and one woman was really proud of herself for doing well on the test, and the people in the comments are criticizing her for being so stuck up because she was proud of her accomplishment. I told them it was bullying, but they won't back down.

Say What?: Commercials That Made Us Scratch Our Heads
Rick Kitchen replied to Lola16's topic in Commercials
There's an ad for something, whatever it is, I don't remember, but there's a pregnant woman who's telling her unborn child that she's the only one who knows what her heart sounds like from the inside. I'm sorry, the baby isn't inside your heart. -
American Idol Past Contestants: What Are They Up To Now?

Todrick was friends with three of the people from Pentatonix before either he or they did their reality TV, and they remain good friends and collaborate a lot with each other. -
Do we really think that Andrew Luck deserves to be the highest paid player in the NFL?

So totally agree with that. I mentioned it the first time I saw the ad. :) -

I wonder if they're going to ham it up or play it straight. -
The Sounds of Our Lives (formerly General Music Discussion)

Ugh, if I never hear Rhianna's "This is What You Came For" one more time, I'll be happy. This song is the most annoying thing since Rhianna's "We Found Love". If a lyricist can't come up with more lyrics than You you you you you you, they need to get out of the occupation. And I guess disco's back now. -
Commercials That Annoy, Irritate or Outright Enrage
Rick Kitchen replied to Maverick's topic in Commercials
I wonder if the Stones own their music. I think Michael Jackson owned the Beatles music, or else, the other way around. -

Did that hospital guy just call Chad "Mister DuMera"? Did Theresa just say the wedding is August 15? Isn't that in the middle of the Olympics, which Days is shut down for? Did Summer just walk right in to Victor and Maggie's condo without knocking? God, Victor, you are such an ass. I love Parker and Nicole's interactions. JJ and Chad work well together. It helps to have two good actors working in the same scenes. Why would anyone in their right mind accept food or drink from the hands of Andre DiMera? Why does Andre need connections? He has a lot of them. Is Show really going to try to reform Deimos? -

Why Grammar Matters: A Place To Discuss Matters Of Grammar
Rick Kitchen replied to candall's topic in Everything Else
I can hear the different sound when other people pronounce them differently (in fact, in the South, don't they pronounce "pin" with two syllables?) But I can't do it, myself, or it sounds fake when I do. My mother, who grew up in Oklahoma, pronounces "hawk" differently than I do, and I can't get the sound right when I try to imitate her pronunciation. -
Not to mention that one of her "children" is 20.

I grew up in California hearing everybody around me say kyoo-pon and I make a conscious effort not to pronounce it that way. I also grew in almond growing country in Northern California, and they pronounce "almond" there as amm-und, not ahm-und. I had to learn to re-pronounce that, too. -
This was because the autistic young man was a fan of the movie and she was bringing him gifts from the movie she was in. I thought it was appropriate. Again, that was because of the movie being the autistic guest's favorite movie. That former ACLU head was a real bitch. No wonder she's no longer with them. She had an agenda that was about women and black rights, and to hell with the transgender people. That was pretty clear. The ACLU can do without her. Maybe she'd be more comfortable with the NAACP, where she can be a single issue activist. I, for one, really liked what Whoopi was wearing.

What about "cot" and "caught"? I think I pronounce them differently, but when I say them out loud, they kind of sound the same. -

I love that ad because the woman is in the background trying to get her clothes back on after they're wrapped around her head. -

TV Themes: The Good, The Bad And The Ugly

I don't know if anybody has mentioned this before, but nothing beats the Peter Gunn theme. Although the Richard Diamond theme comes close. -

That actually sounds really good. Last night I had an apple and some popcorn.
