Supernatural Bitterness & Unpopular Opinions: You All Suck
DeeDee79 replied to mstaken's topic in Supernatural
People seem to have mixed feelings about Benny. I can take or leave him myself. He along with Ruby were plot devices in my eyes to get between the brothers and fans have mixed feelings about her as well. He may have been a considered a good guy for helping Dean in Purgatory but his actions could have been seen as self serving to ride the human out into the real world which makes him more gray in my opinion. -
I get what you're saying; I just would have liked to see something a little different. The two of them not fighting or hurting each other doesn't translate to family affection to me but to some viewers it does. It seems lately that only show of emotion is from Sam or Dean when speaking with Mary.
-
This could be the case but it would still have been nice to see; it's not out of the ordinary to display an outward show of emotion to a loved one especially when their life is in danger. We didn't even get any emotion between the two following their escape in First Blood which would have been nice to see due to the fact that they hadn't even seen each other in 6 weeks. As stated before this is just my opinion; YMMV.

Supernatural Bitterness & Unpopular Opinions: You All Suck

And this is the reason why the episode remains unwatchable to me. -
Yes I understand all of this but I just would have liked to see more Sam and Dean moments in regards to what was going on. For instance when Sam told Rowena what he was feeling seeing Dean's memory being erased vs. how he felt seeing his brother die being worse. Of course for him to communicate that same info to Dean would have been more of a hindrance than helpful but something along the lines of that. I think my problem is that we don't see much emotion between the brothers anymore and I'd hoped that this episode would have more feels than it did.

Jensen always pulls off the comedic moments but I would have liked to see a little less of that and more emotion between Sam and Dean overall. I started to delete this ep from my dvr after watching but I'm going to rewatch and see if it affects me differently. Maybe I'm just being overly picky *shrugs*

That would be awesome if it does. It might make them less wary of her which could lead to more Rowena/Winchester team ups.

This was my feeling after watching. It seemed that the only moment of real drama was when Dean was reciting the main facts about himself in the mirror but the rest of the episode was rather lighthearted. This definitely would have had more of an impact if there were some serious brother moments as Dean's memory started to fade but I understand that there's only so much they can do in an hour long show ( or 45 mins with commercials ). I did like the inclusion of Rowena as I feel that she's a good character that doesn't get to do much. I liked her admitting that having power doesn't necessarily make you happy and it made me chuckle that she only stated it because she knew that Dean wouldn't remember.

Hello all, I have a question and wasn't sure which thread to post it in so I hope that this is ok. Is Previously TV no longer doing the Supernatural recaps? I haven't seen one since the third episode.

Welcome! After posting on other boards and lurking on this one I was encouraged to post because of the friendly conversation. As you stated most people have their preference regarding the brothers but everyone has a sincere appreciation for both of them and that was what made me happy to join in on the discussion. I have an IMDB account but I mostly posted on the Grimm board but stopped due to all of the bickering :(

So true. Cas hasn't been a bad ass in ages; the closest he came was when he tricked Metatron in Do You Believe In Miracles but that was more clever than bad ass.
-
Indeed! Much more awesome than Gabriel IMHO.

I rolled my eyes so hard I nearly gave myself a migraine when they brought that up again. I wish Balthazar was still around; he was the only one that had any loyalty to him.

Didn't they show them at the beginning of the season? I didn't realize they weren't showing them anymore until I sat there and waited for nothing. In regards to this ep it was better than I was expecting though from what we've been shown I wonder if there are any nice angels besides Cas. I'm glad that they didn't gloss over the events of the last ep and that Dean and Cas's rift was due to them being protective of each other and not truly angry. That being said they could have been more subtle with all of the anvils regarding the danger of letting Nephilim live so we wouldn't forget about Lucifer's baby. Over and over and over they fell....

Jared was awesome as Soulless Sam; a perfect mix of amusing and unsettling. Seasons 6 & 7 had a lot of good eps despite that fact that we lost both Bobby and Rufus :^( Welcome! :^) -
This is now my new head canon for Chuck's character. After watching Don't Call Me Shurley I looked at all of his previous eps to see if they were leading in that direction. I was surprised to hear when listening to the commentary for DCMS that it had been decided that Chuck would be revealed as God in season 5 ( or was it 4? ) but they waited until they had the right way to write it in.

That's mostly why I found it to be an interesting read; it was based on his opinion and he stated it up front. I can't recall seeing another list where they ranked every episode which was somewhat impressive as well. I wasn't surprised to see Swan Song as number one and I honestly don't think that I've seen a list where it wasn't. I find it interesting that it wasn't well received when it first aired due to how it's regarded now. I came into the fandom later; my mom was the fan from the beginning and she sucked me in :)
-
I agree; How to Win Friends would be on my list as well. I feel that they left out a lot of gems in favor for the meta, humorous or the grander eps such as The End, Swan Song, Baby, etc. All of those are excellent episodes and deserve to be included but so do ones like Provenance, Weekend at Bobby's, and Roadkill IMO.

Considering that it seemed to be a military site and a man that was supposedly an expert terrorist interrogator they should have had all the personnel needed without him. All he contributed was bitterness and skepticism at the way the imprisonment was handled. I did enjoy seeing him caught in the bear trap :)
