When I saw the show, the pre-nup seemed very one sided. I do not think Kandi needs to be loose with her money, but dang if it seemed like she did not care about him at all. However, I think what Kandi plans is to make Todd a major part of her production company and he will benefit by the marriage by being able to bank on her connections and resources. Todd will still take an independent assignment here or there, but will probably eventually start working full time for Kandi's multiple businesses in some capacity. I have seen this happen many times when a much wealthier spouse has somewhat of an empire. Russell and Kimora Lee Simmons marriage comes to mind (they are divorced now). She was able to start her Baby Phat line of his Phat Farm brand( I think...do not remember clearly, because it seems like a long time ago). I am not saying that Kandi is Russell Simmons or she is obligated to help Todd with his career, but if they do get divorced, he could still probably walk away in an overall better financial position then what he was before the marriage. Some people will have problems with this (Joyce) because they believe a man should provide independently of his wife.

S06.E21: Reunion Part 1
qtpye replied to LotusFlower's topic in The Real Housewives Of New York City
I think Sonya's lifeline is that she birthed a Morgan. This will forever tie her to American royalty. Even though she will probably lose the parking garage town house, I think her ex will step in before she is totally ruined. He will probably put her up in a measly million dollar apartment in Manhattan. She will no longer be living the lavish life style of her peak years with the old man, but she will be comfortable by regular people standards. I think she sincerely believes this and uses the new age positive thinking tropes to will this to come about. I guess time will tell if she is correct. -
That video was so disturbing. It was like he and the camera man had a dom/sub S&M thing going on. I expected Lenny to start screaming "you will like my brisket and then lick sweet corn from my body!" Why in the world would you post that on you tube?

Flipping The Block - General Discussion
qtpye replied to David T. Cole's topic in Flipping The Block
I agree that the outcome had to be rigged, because there is no way misplaced plumbing fixtures and bad tiling are worse then lack of scented candles and a shower curtain. The bump out the married couple did was smart, but all the costly mistakes they made would negated that value wise. Other posters have already astutely pointed out the cost of plumbing and redoing the tile would cancel out the convenience of the double vanities. Amanda might be a nice person, but she has some of the worst hair I have ever seen on tv. Can the posters who are more knowledgeable about hair then I am tell me if that is her real hair or a weave? It looks like she glued a giant haystack to her head. It also does nothing for her as it makes her face look too square. I have never done renovations in my life, but when I buy furniture I measure thoroughly to make sure it fits in the space and is the right scale for the room. That the brothers are professional contractors and made such an amateur mistake was rather shocking. -
I had already posted the on the Hunt thread, but I find it refreshing that the writers have men use their good looks and charm to get what they want. Usually in tv land only attractive women stoop to such behavior. That being said, even if you took the flirting out the equation, Hunt was supposed to be an old family friend that Donna knew from high school. Hunt was shrewd enough to figure out what a shitty husband Gordon was (probably all of Texas knows this by now) and gave Donna the validation that she craved. The betrayal had to hurt on many levels.

So you do not want Cameron to be a manic pixie dream girl? I guess I do not complement the writers a whole lot (though, I thought the last episode was pretty good), but thank god they did not model Cameron on this overdone trope. Heck, I guess Joe is more apt to fit the description of manic pixie dream boy (maybe he wants to be like his mother).

Hey Phae, how is having a "huzzzzbin" working out for you now? The man kicks you to the curb as soon as you stop financially supporting him. -
Phaedra Parks: Undertaker, Esq.
qtpye replied to radishcake's topic in The Real Housewives Of Atlanta
Heck, you don't even have to look at women in their forties...look at who Britney Spears ended up marrying and divorcing. For the record, I have no problem with women marrying men with less money then them as long as the guys exhibit that they have the good character values that is key to being a good husband. An ex-convict who sticks his nose up at any legitimate work you offer him and refuses to curtail his criminal activities, is not husband material. All pretty Pollo had to do was keep his head down and take care of his kids. Heck, he could of even had a career doing work out videos (that his wife set up for him). I have no idea if Phaedra is complicit in his schemes, but she better get rid of him before he hurts her where she cares the most (for Phaedra this would be her pocketbook). -
I was actually a Karlous fan after his audition and I have hated him on the show. I think he is naturally kind of a jerk. Joe Machi has been up there 50,000 times and still tries and Karlous can not even be bothered to think of new material. Did anyone else notice when he was bombing he fell back a little too easily on misogynistic type of jokes? Karlous has one set that he does and can not be bothered to broaden his horizons in any way. I am sure all of his life, people have told him he is the funniest guy they have meet and therefore he thinks he can be lazy and skate by on his natural talent. I was so happy when Roseanne put him in his place. Keenan really liked him and you could see how disappointed he was at Karlous's performance. I mean forget about winning the show, having Keenan Ivory Wayans as your mentor could catapult your career. He was being kind when he withheld his comments...he really should have said the judges do not need to deliberate..."Goodbye, Karlous, you sucked."

I did not like Sandhya's dress on the runway. That being said I think she has a vision and I will not enjoy watching her being bullied by a bitchy mean girls club. There is no way I can take another Michael Costello type of season, where people gang up on one designer like it is middle school. I think if you look back at old spring break footage on Mtv from the eighties, I think you will find that fashion icon named Pauly Shore wearing the almost exact same outfit. Maybe Michael is Pauly's long lost son? Now please excuse me while I walk to my "food showcase" to get an apple. I think this is what I will call my refrigerator from now on.

S06.E02: Oh, Christmas Tre
qtpye replied to Tara Ariano's topic in The Real Housewives Of New Jersey
This could be why she was so upset about the legal fees. When you are used to skipping out on your bills it must hurt to actually have to compensate someone for services rendered. -
You took the words right out of my mouth happykitteh. Tamara's idiot son just admitted everything is fake. We all knew that this show was heavily edited and the "reality" part was open to interpretation. However, the audience also believed that there was a tiny bit of truth to what we were being presented. If everything is false, then we all might as well watch crappy soap operas were we could at least observe people a heck of a lot better looking than Ryan. It would be wonderful if this post got Tamara fired (one can always dream).
-
The funny thing is if Simon would let her film with her three other kids...then we would probably never see Ryan on camera. Tamara would be too embarrassed about this unattractive loser, that makes her look old, as he could easily pass for forty. Ryan knows he only gets the crumbs of his mother's attention when there is nothing better on her plate. I would feel sorry for him, but he really has grown up to be a creepy individual with no ambition... that I would not allow anywhere near my three young daughters. Speaking of looking old, I think Tamara and her mother could pass for sisters and some people might have trouble distinguishing who is older.

I don't know about Cameron, but one reviewer said that Gordon has cleaned himself up for the convention. I think Gordon looks at presenting the Giant there as redemption and he is phoenix rising from the ashes with a nicely trimmed beard.

. Even though it would be infuriating, I would not be surprised if Teresa comes out of this smelling like a rose and does not really make any changes in her lavish lifestyle. By the way, her lawyers, better get in line, because after the sentencing, they will be another creditor not getting paid. Anyone think it is hilarious (in an awful way) that 60K went into drapes, but not a dime of that went into the phantom college fund Teresa was so lamenting. Now that Melissa is back in Monteville will she again claim that she could not trust her kids in the same school system as Teresa's children or will she admit the true financial reasons about them not having their house built? I think everyone was implying something about the Gorgias moving so much...the astute poster above who called Joe Go a money mover was probably on to something. -
In the New Jersey franchise we have a child complain about a "small disgusting" rental, because it does not compare to the shoddily built enormous faux marble monstrosity that she was used to living in. The rental was a lovely home that many people would feel fortunate to have. I can excuse this comment, because it was a child who was probably just parroting the words of her awful mother. Terry calling his place small and smelly, but also getting in how expensive it was to live there screamed of humble bragging. It was very similar to Jim and Alexis Bellino, with their price dropping ways. Heather was no better, when she claimed that the rental was a good place to house train their dogs as she did not care about the floors. I am sure their landlord was mortified. We get it... you guys are incredibly wealthy and are used to living in a palace. I am sure in the pricey California markets, that many people there would love to live in a place like the Dubrow's supposedly smelly tiny rental.

S08.E10: Challenge 3: Universal Tram Experience
qtpye replied to Tara Ariano's topic in Last Comic Standing [V]
I agree with you guys about Karlous seeming to be a jerk (thankfully, they focus very little time on him). I do remember some of his sets and truthfully, he much more warm and charming on stage then he is off stage. I do not know if he is a nasty person with a good stage presence or if it just weird editing that is making him look bad. -
As another woman in her thirties that grew up in Georgia, I remember the ladies in one of my later college classes comparing engagement rings. Every single one of them was engaged besides me. I absolutely had no desire to be married, at what I thought was a rather young age and was considered the exception, not the rule (we are talking all of 21, barely legal drinking age). By the way, I graduated in the early 2000's not the 1950's. I actually married in my late twenties to a wonderful man. If I had not found him, I would have easily accepted a life of happy single hood, as opposed to marrying a jerk. Societal pressures can be stressful, but the at the end of the day, it is you who is going to have to live with your decisions. Marriage is great, but not easy, even under the best of circumstances.

I just read the recap for Wife Swap and I can not believe how bad Jill seemed. I mean that was a straight forward recap that did not contain snark and I still wanted to strangle her. I have to ask, since I refuse to watch the show....was Jenna's house that bad or was Jill just being horrible? She really thinks that she is up there and the rest of us small folk are down here. (tm crazy Kelly). I think Bethany has always been a very insecure woman. She thinks the only thing she has over other women (before she became filthy rich) is her skinniness. Heck, she had even made an empire out of being skinny. I bet she is one of those people that subscribes to you can never be too thin. I hope she is not transferring her body issues to her daughter.

S09.E13: Point 'Break'
qtpye replied to islandgal140's topic in The Real Housewives Of Orange County
It's like an extension of her humble brag routine. Heather is smart enough not to take ownership of anything and it is always second hand and sometimes under the guise of concern. I remember when Lizzie was talking about how her marriage proposal was very spontaneous and not what she expected. Heather had to talk about how her proposal was not good, because it was on the plane as supposed to fabulous vacation to Paris that Terry had just took her on. I wish she was on Beverly Hills with Lisa, because then she would have gotten a "Really darling, did he not even charter a private plane?" or "You do not have your own personal plane...how do you get by?" which would have shut her pretentiousness down. Heather and Shannon really belong on BH with their wealth ( I hear that Newport Beach is a very pricey and exclusive area). However, in comparison to this crew pre-Shannon, Heather was the smartest, richest, most successful (as she has had modest success with her acting career) one with a lovely family and a rich surgeon husband that seemed to adore her. If Heather would have just sucked up her pride and accepted Shannon's apology before the house breaking hoedown, then she still would have been still sitting pretty. Lizzie's husband seems nice, but a little disheveled and dorky. I feel like they might get assistance from Lizzie's, now what I realize must be wealthy family, more then we were lead to believe. Of course, who would not want to take advantage of their in law's fabulous beach condo. I wonder if Lizzie's family also helped them buy their house or helped finance Christian business? I think he is also an entrepreneur, but I am not sure, as I really do not remember what he does for a living. -
Melissa Gorga: Sexy Life, Loyal Wife
qtpye replied to Stinger97's topic in The Real Housewives Of New Jersey
Is anyone else shocked by Melissa's transformation? I do not mean from the first season she was on the show, I mean from the pictures of her pre-show. She does not even look like the same person. In her talking heads, she now sort of resembles Kim Kardashian (I will leave it up to you guys to figure out if this is a good thing). -
Yeah, I remember watching Caberet with Liza Minnelli with my AP class in high school in 1998 (my teacher was considered very forward thinking and progressive) and the class being absolutely shocked that the Maximillian character was sleeping with both a man and a woman. It seems hard to believe that in 1983, a woman as naive and socially awkward as Cameron would just shrug off Joe's bisexuality. Of course, maybe we will find out that Cameron is also bixsexual and therefore understands that sexuality is not always ridgidly defined. Completely agree. It is a little interesting to me that we finally have a show where a male character uses his sexuality to manipulate people. We usually get sexy women in an office who are not afraid to use their looks to get ahead (the horrible Ally Mcbeal was one of the worst offenders). Usually, men are shown as getting where they are professionally because of their skill, not because they are willing to bang whoever they need to fulfill their professional goals. That being said, this type of desperation is not appealing in a character...no matter what the gender.

I actually think Shannon is pretty. It was wonderful that she was so forthcoming about her nose job, and did not stand behind the usual HW "I have had no work done" ruse. I appreciate how open she has been about her life. Most new HW's pretend they have a perfect life. Compare this to Lizzie... with her lamenting about how such an intellectual brain trust such as herself, who is pretty enough to win beauty contests, is wasted being an excellent mother to her kids. Meanwhile, her kids seem miserable and she considers getting a 100k loan from her father "as doing everything herself". Not to mention getting irked because her mother can not move across the country to take care of her phantom "third baby". As far as acting, she can not even claim the modest success of Heather. Shannon has let us into her life warts and all. Lizzie's story is just a love letter to herself about her awesomeness and totally feels disingenuous.

I was wondering if Donna was the geeky girl in high school and Hunt was the big shot she always had a small crush on. Perhaps, Hunt (maybe without even knowing it) manipulated this to his advantage, because I certainly felt that we the audience were supposed to think Hunt was coming on to her. I know this never happens in tvland but a man can compliment a woman on her professional skills and not seem like he is hitting on her. Gordon has to go through so much drama for every tiny thing in his life. He can not figure out a hardware problem without great angst and stress, when just mentioning it to Donna will allow her to come up with an useable solution. He can not just defrost the lasagne Donna has so kindly made for him, because then how will he get drunk, make horrible stew, endanger the well being of his children, and then still have time to literally dig his own grave. It's like that tv trope that if mommy goes out of town for a night with Dad in charge, the house will almost be destroyed, except it is not funny (I actually always found this trope pretty sexist). I am beginning to think that Gordon is an idiot masquerading as a genius, because his saintly wife always figures out everything for him.
