Yeah...Jessa's game playing has lead her to be homeless, jobless, broke (the money from ex husband must be running out by now), and perhaps friendless. She really is a master of the universe. However, it would be nice if someone at least once called her on her bad behavior. I hate to say this, but if Ray become rich and powerful, Marnie would be on him like white on rice. I think this because it is exactly what happened with her ex, Charlie. She totally took him for granted and dumped him...twice. However, as soon as he became a successful app designer with a lot of money, she made it a point to get him back. Marnie thinks Desi is on his way to becoming a successful actor/musician, who is going to be great for her own aspirations as a singer, If this does not pan out, then she will be very unhappy in this relationship (particularly with his tendency to cheat).

S02.E00: Matchmaking Special / S02.E01: Wedding Preparations
qtpye replied to Tara Ariano's topic in Married At First Sight
Last year I was glued to the T.V. with this show. This year...not so much. I ended up fast forwarding through most of it, only to see five seconds of one wedding ceremony. I thought Jaclyn was very hard looking and her 29 makes Jamie Otis's 28 look believable. However, the guy liked her and she was not smitten with his looks or his accent. I hope she is kind about it, because he seems like a nice guy. Also, she had to know this would happen, having seen the Doug and Jamie issues from last year. I felt bad for Davina, she seemed very alone in this. I wonder if she said white guys only after seeing the Vaughn or Monet debacle. Maybe, she was afraid they would pair her up with the one Indian guy (if there were any) that agreed to do this show, irregardless of whether or not they were compatible. It looks like they are going to do a separate series on arranged marriages. I guess blind marriages are going to be to FYI what House Hunters is to HGTV. -
Married At First Sight: The First Year
qtpye replied to Primetimer's topic in Married At First Sight
I think the reason I feel cheated is because in the original series, Courtney was presented as an extremely caring and mature person. Jason and Courtney were presented as the most functional of all the couples and you had no idea why Jason was hesitant to continue with the marriage. After watching this series, it seems like there were many red flags and Jason had good reason to end the quickie marriage. Either the show willfully mislead us about Courtney, so they could at least boast about one successful coupling (remember this was when Jaimie was gagging at the sight of Doug while Monet and Vaughn were obviously having problems) or Courtney was faking who she was during the original series. I doubt Courtney is that good of an actress, but anything is possible. I do wish all the participants well and would suggest they stay off camera for the sake of their relationships, though the lure of easy money and fame will be hard to resist. -
This is part of the review from Vulture If it was not for the one throw away line he said about being unemployed, I too would have never realized it. Of course being in between projects would make much more sense with the way the characters were acting. So, perhaps he is only unemployed for the short term?

I enjoyed this series, to my surprise, and hope it comes back for a second season. Like a lot of people here, I found it very realistic. That being said I was surprised that there was not more talk about Brett's sudden unemployment. His job was able to support four adults (though two of them were temporary) and two children comfortably in a pretty expensive part of the country. Is the new plan for him to be a stay at home parent, while Michelle supports the family? Does he realize how hard it is to be a stay at home parent (it is certainly not the carefree utopia depicted in this episode)? Will Michelle be able to find a job, with the charter school or non profit (as that is the backbone of her experience) that will pay enough for them to maintain their current lifestyle? I feel like we were cheated out of this discussion between Brett and Michele. Marriage is not all existential angst, sometimes you have to talk about the practical stuff as well. I too was not impressed with Alex's behavior. What the hell was his plan...bully Tina into dumping the boyfriend that is giving him his big break in the first place? Tina has said that she needs a financially stable man to take care of her, because she thinks she can not take care of herself (which was a sad scene). If Alex had said things like he believes Tina can be much more then a partner to a man she does not love, that would be something. Instead he thinks he can take care of Tina, which makes no sense in the context of the situation.

Married At First Sight: The First Year
qtpye replied to Primetimer's topic in Married At First Sight
Wow, not only does Jamie get to marry a man who she finds physically repulsive (her words not mine) and wants to have sex with her nonstop (think about having to do that with someone you find physically gross)...she gets to financially support him as well. Thanks experts! I hope getting that Podcast hosting gig was worth it. Of course this is only if Doug's salesman/comedienne/part time baptizer career does not take off. I am kidding. I do hope they work out, but I think Jamie needs some counseling for her traumatic childhood. I think all four of them need to keep their marriages away from the camera. This season was a real nose dive in terms of Courtney's likability. Bring on the next victims...um, I mean participants for season 2. -
S07.E16: Southern Discomfort
qtpye replied to cooksdelight's topic in The Real Housewives Of Atlanta
Did I just see an event hosted by Peter that was so poorly attended that they just started giving out rewards to random people in the audience? I do not think that Kandi was very impressed with her her "Excellently Excelling in Excellence" award or whatever bullshit she got. Knowing Peter...he probably gave everyone who attended an award and then charged them $300 for the engraving. The whole thing was probably some money making scam. It is a shame his friend Apollo had already "gone asunder" or he could have helped. -
Married At First Sight: The First Year
qtpye replied to Primetimer's topic in Married At First Sight
If this is real (doubtful) and Courtney and Jason are headed for a break up...then the marriage experts lose their statistical advantage. I have heard that two in three marriages break up within the first five years. That would mean the "experts" would be at the same level at us regular people with no fancy relationship training. If within the next four years, Doug and Jaimie break up, then the the experiment is a total failure compared to the general population. -
Married At First Sight: The First Year

I agree. The risk you take when going on a reality show the second time is that your stock will go down. I really loved Courtney the first season and was impressed with her dedication and supposed maturity. This year, I do not even recognize her. She has a very delusional view of her self and is lacking in any awareness of how ridiculous she sounds. I remember her going on about Thanksgiving, but refusing to cook. I do not mean that it is the wife's duty to cook, but Jason was working and she was doing nothing. She had no job, she was not getting the apartment together, and she was not doing anything to further her pie in the sky business. Compare this to Jaimie who happily prepared a meal (I doubt if Doug did anything to help) for a large family gathering, while working as a nurse (not an easy job). Jamie and Doug have also moved recently and do not seem to have a problem keeping their home presentable. Yet, we get talking heads of Courtney going on about how she is an amazing superwoman who just tries to do much for everyone. It seems to me Courtney is miserable in this marriage. On a very shallow note, I thought Courtney would be a better dancer, since she had such a passion for Cabaret. She had all the grace of a country mule. I know most people will not care, because she is a pretty blonde woman in a short dress, but I thought she would move better. -
Ellen's Design Challenge - General Discussion

I am very saddened by this outcome. I was so happy for Tim's win and was shocked at the disqualification. I really thought Tim had a knack for combining rustic and industrial element to create something very sleek and sophisticated. The quote pointed out by the article linked by SnarkKitty was something that kind of confused me when I was watching the show. I realized he wanted his design to be original, but thought it was odd that he made a point of referring to designers in other countries. I could not understand at that time why it would matter if his piece stood out from American designers or designers abroad. Now, it makes sense. I was also disappointed with Katie's finale outfit. I was expecting something along the lines of a sarong wrap skirt with a cookie monster t-shirt...paired with chunky boots and a duster that had geometric shapes cut out of it in random areas. What she wore seemed almost normal, though it had a slight lab coat vibe. -
I liked the way the two sisters call each other out on their shit, but overall have a good relationship. It looks like Brett now has his own manic pixie dream girl (or woman). I understand Alex's frustration, but a part is a part. Many actors have had to lose or gain weight for a role. Also, it could have lead to bigger things and it is not like he has anything else going on right now. The actor that plays Alex is looking much better then he did the pilot, so good for him.

As a short gal with many tall girlfriends that are over 5'10", I feel your pain. However, I was just referring to the parameters of the show and not to what you find in off the rack department stores, in general. I feel like specifically the designers on the show can only design for one aesthetic and that is why the real world challenges tend to be such disasters. I also have no hate for the models...their tall thinness makes them look good in the clothing, which is their job. I just like designers (again speaking about show) who can show that type of versatility Alyssa is an attractive woman and I am shocked about how she is sometimes presented on the show. Even, before she was pregnant, it seemed like her stylists had no idea what to do with a petite woman with curves. Of course her stylist are not contestants on the show, but the disconnect seems to be similar.

I have always liked Sonjia's personal style of dressing. I think Tom and Lorenzo (a great fashion blog, for those who do not know, that started off as Project Rungay) described her as Tootie from Facts of Life going to college and taking a class from Maya Angelou. However, I wish she had been a little more gracious last night. I love Dimitry and am happy that he won. That being said, I do not think his lovely dress flattered Alyssa. Her body and legs looked very short and stocky. I am going to need a real world challenge where designers make looks for very petite women. It always seems like the clothes only look good on the tall thin amazons that serve as runway models. Since many actresses are on the shorter side and the average American woman is 5'4"... it is a market they can not afford to ignore. Oh my God...shut up Michele. The way she was trying to dominate the conversation and almost jumping out of her seat to put her mug in the camera was embarrassing. I agree with the above poster who said she was unhappy about not being in the front row. Alyssa's baby is quite pretty... like her mommy.

Married At First Sight: The First Year
qtpye replied to Primetimer's topic in Married At First Sight
Physical attraction is not the most important thing in a marriage, but there has to be something a little better then the revulsion Jaimie felt when she first met Doug. I am one of the ones who find Doug attractive, but it is obvious that Jaimie does not. I personally find Doug more attractive then the smarmy guy she was all over in Bachelor Pad. However, all of this is very subjective. On the other hand, Doug's sexual needs seem to very juvenile. I doubt if any person needs to have sex as much as he claims. As people have pointed out, he must have gone through quite the dry spell before he came on this show and yet he is still alive. -
Perhaps you should try Bass Pro Shops.

Married At First Sight: The First Year
qtpye replied to Primetimer's topic in Married At First Sight
My God...what the hell happened to Courtney? She is a crying mess because Jason is going to work and she only has a few hours with him? Oh no...now we can not go work out with Monet. Does she realize in most couple people go to work, take care of the kids, clean the house, and they are very lucky to be able to say good night to each other before going to bed? My husband has an emergency care type job and I did not have one holiday with him last year. Also, he often works for two weeks straight and that includes weekends. I also live 600 miles from any family and I have never cried like that, because I understood this was a part of life when I married him. This times a million. Many families are dealing with having a loved one overseas and they do not fall apart the way Courtney did (while touting how strong she is). The girl actually does not have any real responsibilities at the moment...since the show is providing for them financially in the short term. Also, what about her business? Why is she not hustling 24/7 to get that off the ground, as is the case for most successful budding entrepreneurs. Has she filed for her L.L.C or made a business plan? I really liked Courtney last year and hope she is just getting a really bad edit. -

Did anyone else think Katy's design was hideous? I usually like the way she thinks outside the box ( I could even see a market for her cow table), but that couch was pure fug. I agree with the poster who thinks blonde judge has a thing for Katy. Everything Katy does is "on trend". It's like she thinks proximity to Katy's youth is going to make Wayfair (isn't she the Wayfair lady?) automatically attractive to young hipsters. Carly is actually not much older then Katy, but she seem more mature and does not do the cutesy thing as much. -
I honestly think Jessa was passive aggressively punishing Hannah for leaving her. She was also probably jealous that Hannah got into such a top notch program (however unlikely that might be). Jessa is a very selfish person and she can be a very dangerous type of friend to have. The world exists for her and nothing else matters. Also, she loves to fuck with people just because it gives her power in their lives. She gets away with a lot because people see her as an ultra cool pretty blonde woman. When her looks go, she is going to be in worse shape then Marnie. The whole spiel about her wanting to look like she is fifty at thirty, because she will be so filled with life experience was bullshit. Jessa craves security and success just as much as anybody but, like Hannah, she does not think she should have to work for it.

Married At First Sight: The First Year

Yeah, just like with Jamie and Doug, it would be smart to wait until they know each other better and get more settled financially, before they have a baby. -
Because I read the Tom and Lorenzo blog on fashion, I have become obsessed with costuming. Did anyone notice how they went out of their way to make Michelle look bad this episode in their wardrobe? I am not saying that you have to dress up for you therapist, but Michelle looked like someone who had spent the day cleaning their oven. It was sort of the way the fishnet stockings made an otherwise tame outfit kind of trashy, when she had her night out on the town. I feel these types of wardrobe choices are very deliberate, but have no idea what they say about the character. I also liked that when she went for her triumphant kick the can moment she looked neither athletic or pretty in the usual t.v. sense. She did look very determined and that made the scene feel more organic. I feel that we saw shades of that when they were in the hotel, before the disastrous sex scene. I bet in the beginning they balanced each other out. Brett was probably little more adventurous and bubbly Michelle probably enjoyed embracing her inner dork with him. She is bored and confused, while he is very set in his ways. I really hope they can work it out. Also, I think Brett is stressed out by his work, but can not express that to her because he is afraid it will make him look weak. I think a lot of men face this problem. This is one of the reasons he needs Alex, because he can be himself around him.

S07.E14: Hello Mr. Chocolate
qtpye replied to cooksdelight's topic in The Real Housewives Of Atlanta
I take it that you were not impressed with the bucket full of Home Depot door hinges that he was so proudly displaying. I wonder if there are any men left in the motherland since all of them seem to be in Atlanta? Oh yeah, I the ones in Atlanta are made up. Seriously, the next time someone accuses someone else of seeing an African man (millionaire or otherwise)... I want a proper name and not nickname like Fudgie the Whale. Claudia, I used to wake up at 5 a.m., get my kids ready for school, and then take 2 buses to work (I was never late)...so you not getting up time for a cushy gig like a morning show is really not a tearjerker. I am not a prude, but please no more of Kandi's "wares". I am afraid they are going to force a sexual aid to be displayed in every episode. -
Jessa and Hannah have sadist/mysogonist friendship. We usually only use these terms for sexual relationships, but it can appy to platonic relationships as well. Jessa will never pass up a chance to abuse or humiliate Hannah, because she is both envious and repulsed by her. Hannah, who has been coddled all her life, is grossly fascinated by this treatment and almost worships Jessa. In other words, the sick friendship is not going anywhere. I also thought it was very interesting that not only did Jessa set Adam up with a girl...she set him up with the perfect girl for him. She is smart, creative, sucessful, and very mature. She is also quirky enough that she can handle his wierdness. I think by the end of the program both Hannah and the audience had fallen a little in love with Mimi-Rose. There is a chance that Jessa could do something in the next couple of episodes that totally redeem her. However, at the end of the day, dating Mimi-Rose so easily is more on Adam then Jessa. The relationship with Hannah was truly over for him.

Valerie, the pretty girl with the messed up teeth from season 2, just got arrested for prostitution. You might remember her saying "it's your baby Matt" and that she was a foster child who seemed to have nothing (unlike Farrah and Maci). I feel very sad for her and hope she is able to get her life together for her baby.

S07.E13: The Countdown Begins
qtpye replied to Tara Ariano's topic in The Real Housewives Of Atlanta
If there is really no married rich African prince and Porsha has been paying for everything though her own work and endorsements, then Claudia owes her a big apology. I actually do not mind Porsha (wish she would used the money to learn more about the great history her grandfather was a part of) or Claudia (not a fan of some of her comments), but in this situation one of them is lying. Really would not care about it at all...but they made it a big part of the show this season. -
This is my fanwank guess. Hannah probably does have some talent. The poster who said she probably can deliver some awesome tweets and would be perfect for advertising was spot on. However, she refuses to do the work necessary to polish and develop her skill. Hemingway was not Hemingway with his first writing...he took in constructive critism to develop what became an iconic style of writing. Hannah believes is that she is pretty good at putting words together, so it should come easily and anyone who disagress does not understand she is the voice of her generation. So, what it comes down to is that she is too lazy and self absorbed to be a real writer...even though she does posses some ability.
