  1. The opinion piece by John Dean re Watergate vs the email scandals made me think of Nixon's good old enemies list. President Trump would likewise immediately hand over government to his various alt right lackeys and spend his time siccing the FBI on everyone, Republican or Democrat, who had publicly spoken out against him. My voodoo curse for Trump is that Melania and Ivanka both permanently gain 50 pounds.
  2. If we're talking full resurrections, there are definitely a couple of recent single-season shows I'd like to see brought back and continued right where they left off.
  3. I liked episode 3 a lot, now that the travelers are settling in a bit. Canned corn, yum! I wonder if we'll get to see the future at any point. I'm not sure how the Director can know that a child who died would have done or become something important as an adult, because that future never happened. Poor Phillip, being all doped up and trying to buck the system in order to help random strangers. He might not have been the best personality type to send back.
  4. Alt-right segment: depressing as shit Obama interview: still depressing because, almost gone
  5. He was awesome! I was sorry to lose him. Per the previews, I'm looking forward to Don the White coming on down. Jeff the Gray wouldn't so much be able to blend so we'll see.
  6. I thought it was awesome! Good for them for getting out of the "Trump said this" joke rut. I especially liked Jeff Ross being put in charge of Trump's mean tweets, women having to wear a ratings bracelet, and Hasan trying to pass in whiteface. It was nice of John Oliver to pitch in (although I wanted to hear the end of his egg safety story).

    U.K. TV

Oh! I assumed that was a non-fiction show similar to Diggers in the U.S. I'll have to give it a try.
  8. I ... liked it? I don't know what I expected, but it was more grounded. While there was whimsy/absurdity it wasn't over the top. I'll definitely watch more.
  9. Thanks for the notice. I don't watch that show but the online preview shows Blake and Emerson, so I'm in! After watching: That show is an hour long! Jeez. It was all three guys but the focus isn't really on the guests. The guys got a few good lines off, mostly flirting with the crew. My other takeaway is that the guys look really slender and small when they're around people other than themselves. There was a lingering close-up shot of Blake's crotch in his flowered banana hammock swim briefs. Maybe the camera person was a fan. It was good to see them!
  10. That's it, exactly. The "chatty" comments are never about broccoli or tofu, but an extension of the judgmental food police and people poking their damned noses into my choices. "My, that's a LOT of ice cream!" Well, it's my favorite and only available seasonally and I have a stand-alone freezer so shut the shit up. The unwritten clerk/customer contract for acceptable topics is: Hi. Thanks for shopping with us today. How are you? How's your day going? This is some weather we're having. Did you find everything you need? I like your blouse/holiday sweater/necklace, etc. Have a nice evening. The additional caveat is that when asking "how are you doing?" nobody wants a truthful answer. If either side takes that as an invitation to bring up recent surgery, a headache, pending divorce, etc., they flunk and need to take a remedial course in social interactions.
  11. I haven't heard anything about a possible renewal, but reviews have been mixed. The story was certainly left open to follow the lawsuit and personal repercussions. I thought the series got a little better as it went along, but then the focus devolved to just being messy romantic relationships all around. I really disliked Patti and Finn together. Ew. When Doug lamented that he didn't know why they could never work it out, my mind answered "because Patti's a ditz." Jane maybe had the most depth of character because we got to see her arc of awareness, but somehow I never really liked her. Part of it may be due to Anna Camp, who seems to be the go-to actress for these ice blond WASP roles, but who I've never warmed to. I agree about becoming impatient with Cindy and her meek irresponsibility. The show went out of its way to portray Lenny as a lout, but up until he hit her, he was just a man of his time who expected his wife to stay at home and have babies. He at least wanted to spend time with Cindy and watch TV together. Finn treated his wife far worse, in my opinion. I also couldn't work up much antipathy for Ned because, as he said, he never made any promises to Cindy about their future. She's the one who created an instant life with him in her head. The less said about the art gallery dick waving jerk who was selling out the magazine to advertisers, the better.
  12. What, again? Do you live in Stars Hollow? Do a lot of towns have trick-or-treating during the daytime now? And announce the hours? Confused, but thinking I may want to schedule a vacation to such a neat and organized place.
  13. Dear everybody who worked on or witnessed this scene: you have to push the lit button to answer the danged call.
  14. Goodness. I was a little afraid to open this thread in case it was bad news about Dr. Jeff's cancer. But good for him. We know whatever money he gets from the show will be used to expand his business and provide additional help to animals and owners. Another vet show last night featured a dog that had to be euthanized because the owner couldn't afford care for him, and you know Dr. Jeff would never let that happen.
  15. Haven't we been saying that since season one?! Don't know how they can continue this. Surely it will be a different case next time. Where can they possibly go? I'm on the side, if there is one, of the anti-Stella. Anderson's pale, underwater acting choices made me twitch, as did her character's recurring ineptitude. How she ever became such a high ranking police officer is a mystery.
  16. Seems like the show is going out of its way to hit every.single.beat of the women's movement in the 60s and 70s. Yeah, that's why we're here, but I feel like I'm being banged on the head with it. Maybe because I lived through it once already? Anyway, I'm in no hurry to watch the rest of the episodes.
  17. I just wish there was a way for Klingons to revere physical prowess, the art of war, and a fighting spirit without all the damned shouting and anger.
  18. From your mouth to God's ears! (Not that I don't like those segments, but I'm burnt.) I saw an online interview with Seth recently and he was asked about being a political comedian. He said he didn't consider himself one, but that he does discuss current events.
  19. If, say, my mother sent me a happy birthday potato, I would be utterly confused: What did I miss? Are we Irish now? Is there something hidden inside I'm supposed to find like a down market King Cake? Is mom pissed and lobbing heavy objects at me via parcel post? What am I missing?
  20. Bureaucratic peeve: I've been getting social security for 9 months and got a notice from them today that they've been underpaying me by $40 a month. They sent me $360 and are increasing my monthly benefit. Okay, but really? They have my danged earnings statement back to 1966 -- how did they make such a mistake in the first place? Are horses doing the calculations by pawing their feet in the sand and one of them was tired that day? You know if SSA had been overpaying they'd make me pay it back, just like those veterans being forced to repay their past enlistment bonuses.
  21. I transcribed the very beginning of Stephen's interview with Drew Carey last night. This is just Stephen's part of the back and forth conversation: You're wearing ... uh. That was some nice physical comedy there. Um, well, uh, welcome and congratulations on celebrating your tenth year. It's extraordinary. Um, uh, but even more congratulations to Cleveland because you're Mr. Cleveland. They've been having a great sports year. Uh, uh, uh, have you been watching the series so far? Can someone on staff please round up a Toastmaster from Anywhere U.S.A. and coach those constant ums and uhs out of him? The guy makes his living speaking.
  22. I think Chris is proud of how little he knows about sports. He can sometimes come off as a little too defiant in his "up with nerds!" attitude for me.
  23. I don't have any social media accounts and feel like this is the last thing I should be interested in after watching the episode, but still ... I would want to see site-wide aggregate "like" statistics if they were available. Are mine average? A lot lower than others? If lists of most "liked" posters were available, I'd also probably follow some of them, just for curiosity's sake. Maybe I'm missing some funny and insightful stuff! But I also want to stick my feet in and not allow media influencers to, you know.
  24. Hillary has released her medical records and I don't worry too much about her health (or STAMINA), except inasmuch as anything can happen to anybody. Not to be morbid, but the person who concerns me is Bill. He's looking kind of frail and slow-poky to me these days, with a bit of that oldster voice quaver. (Not trying to be snotty: “The vocal folds are made up of muscle and collagen among other things. Just like other muscles thin out or atrophy with age, the vocal folds do as well,” says Gina Vess, a speech pathologist and director of the Clinical Voice Programs at Duke University Medical Center.")
  25. Ya know, just because I admire someone or think they're good looking, be it celebrity or real life acquaintance, does not mean I'm sexually attracted to them. I can have a crush on someone of the same sex without it being sexual. Get your mind out of the gutter, world! Sorry, random brain regurgitation. I've been in central Florida for six years and have never turned on the furnace. For those few nights when it's literally frosty out, I put on a sweater or use my electric blanket. But yeah. Here in Olde Towne the parkas and scarves (I've even seen mittens) come out at anything below 70.
