  1. That's one chilly side hug. Not the movie-theater-cuddle side-hug at all.
  2. Rutgers won its first tournament game in 38 years.
  3. I don't have a problem with the sheriff expressing empathy for the shooter. I think that effective cops have to show empathy for criminals. It's how they become better interrogators. It also helps to view everyone as a human being. However, I doubt this sheriff would have all this empathy for every suspect. If he can maintain this level of empathy for everyone he arrests that's great. But, as I said, I doubt he can.
  4. I enjoy Ava in Show Boat too. One thing about Ava was that she herself believed herself to be of mixed race. She grew up poor white in North Carolina where many white people actually had some mixed race heritage. She was a strong advocate for civil rights her entire life. Here is an article about the many times Ava was a strong civil rights advocate: https://www.johnstoncountync.org/ava-gardner/blog/post/celebrating-black-history-month-at-the-ava-gardner-museum/
  5. I read about that book. From what I understand she cut short the project when she heard that he had once had an unpleasant business dealing with Frank Sinatra. Ava and Frank remained close friends so out of loyalty she stopped cooperating. Ava remained a stunner in old age:
  6. Here's an article that I think would be good to repost: 10 Undeniable Facts About the Woody Allen Sexual Abuse Allegation
  7. I've always believed Ronan was Woody's son because both of them are such talented writers. Woody's awful and a creep but his movies are well-written. And Ronan is a very skilled writer too. Both of them also have that slick ambition.

    The NBA

Jimmy wasn't a one-and-done player. He spent four years in college (one year in junior college, three at Marquette) and has a degree in communications. So him getting so offended at "coalesce" was sad.
  9. As for 2009 Gaga was robbed. I can't believe Fame Monster didn't win.
  10. Oops she does. I stand corrected. But my point is it's random which indie chicks get the Grammy love and which ones don't.
  11. I feel like Woody is a selective sociopath. Some people are sociopaths all the time to everyone. Charles Manson is like that. Always a sociopath, wherever he goes. I think Woody knew better than to pull that shit with A-list Hollywood actresses. That reputation does get around and it catches up with you eventually. Woody instead looked for vulnerable people. Maybe he sensed a weakness in Mia. All those kids that were not looked after. He could be a sociopath to Mia and her kids, but not the A-list Hollywood actors/actresses/directors. It worked well. He always has used as his defense that there aren't industry-wide complaints about him the way there was for, say, Harvey Weinstein.
  12. Oh great. He can be another legendary player who becomes an awful color commentator. It's like a rule or something.

Jimmy Butler doesn't know what "coalesce" means, bless his heart.
  14. I kind of hope Mank doesn't win. I love movies about the golden age of Hollywood but Mank didn't do it for me at all. It was boring and the worst sort of Award show prestige project.
  15. I would love if one of the GWTW characters was retconned into passing as white and written into a book. Passing was more common in ante-bellum South than a woman of Scarlett's station would have acknowledged.
  16. One racial issue I don't believe is getting as much attention as it needs is how in the United States covid denialism in certain media and political outlets skyrocketed after there was the initial reports that communities of color were disproportionately affected, and the first big outbreaks were in more racially diverse urban centers. As soon as that news came out I feel like covid denialism ran off the charts, and it continues to this day even though there's really no corner of the U.S. that the virus hasn't rampaged. This is a question that really needs hard answers: why do we so relentlessly "other" people who get sick? In the 1980s and 90s it was the othering of gay people who got HIV/AIDS. In 2020/21 people thought covid was only something that happened in big cities, in blue states, until it happened to them.
  17. Not only SoonYi. Mia was allowed to adopt way more children than IMO she should have been allowed. Many of the children were special needs. No way she could have cared for all those special needs children. But I also wonder if Woody Allen is that involved in his adopted childrens' lives. From the article I read with SoonYi they made it seem like SoonYi was the primary caretaker.
  18. Maybe the most egregious lifetime achievement award was John Wayne winning for ... True Grit. Not Searchers. Not The Quiet Man. Not Red River. But True Grit. I also think Maria Bakalova is category fraud. She's really in the vast majority of the Borat scenes. To me, she's a lead. I understand why they put her where they put her but she's a lead.
  19. Maco's behavior doesn't really matter. What matters is Allen's behavior. Even the very best defense for him seemed to take for granted the fact that he was an atrocious father.
  20. It's always weird who has a Grammy and who doesn't. Like Sara Bareilles doesn't have a Grammy. Neither does Sia or Andra Day.
  21. See, I've always hated Oscars that were really lifetime achievement awards. I felt the same about Leonardo diCaprio getting an Oscar for one of his weakest films. His deserved an Oscar but not for the one he got it in.
  22. Yes. This by the way is not purely a mothers-losing-custody thing. I knew a lawyer whose client (the father) repeatedly warned the court that the mother was abusive and threatening to kill the child during visitation. The court gave visitation rights to the mother anyway. The mother killed herself and the child during a visitation weekend.
  23. The Golden Globes can be canceled. The Hollywood Foreign Press is a totally fake organization anyway. We can also push for all of Woody Allen's movies to be removed from streaming platforms. Youtube, Amazon Prime, Netflx, Hulu.
