  1. I think Alton said never to cook with wine you wouldn't drink?
  2. Was it public school? I know that the parochial schools, back in the day, required girls to wear uniform skirts the whole way.
  3. Boy do I hear you about the unvaccinated. Maybe if bricks dropped on their heads, they'd wise up! I don't understand this about using human remains as compost now, though I have heard of it recently. There are reasons that bodies just can't be buried anywhere and I don't know how using them as compost would get around those reasons. Sorry if I seem stupid.
  4. That's exactly what we did for my mother. She passed at Christmas, was cremated, and the next June we had a big party with friends and relatives. My stepdad, sister and I privately took her ashes to the river she loved.
  5. Many people choose not to have funerals, my mother didn't, but I don't know as I would have an opinion on other people having or planning them. It depends alot on people's beliefs and cultures, etc.
  6. When I was in elementary school, girls were not allowed to wear pants or shorts either. I didn't wear pants to school until high school. Luckily we lived in an area that didn't get freezing cold, especially as we walked several blocks to school at one point. We just wore tights when it was cold. It might sound fogey-ish but I can't believe what kids wear to school these days, crop tops and short shorts, etc etc. I don't think things like that should be allowed, and NOT because it "distracts" the boys, but it shows disrespect for one's body and the school.
  7. I still have to get used to the British use of "jumper" as a sweater or sweatshirt, which in reference to chucking on the ground during playtime would make sense. Here in the US a jumper is a dress, and one would hope that's not being thrown on the ground during playtime! I am not sure but I think some British schools still require uniforms.
  8. No, of course there is no requirement that obituaries must be written or published. It's just a way for some to announce it to people who knew the deceased, often with funeral information or where charitable donations can be made in the deceased's name.
  9. But it would be kind of fun to watch her bouncing!
  10. I haven't seen it since it aired either. It is as you said, disgusting and compelling. The thing that always stuck in my mind after watching the show was the dichotomy of good and evil. I agree also that Call the Midwife is about love, and treating everyone, especially the poor, etc, with respect.
  11. I just looked it up and apparently there are people who told the truth about the deceased in their obituaries!
  12. Me neither. I don't know why people would have children if they were going to send them away. I have heard that those schools could be pretty brutal too.
  13. I know that is true, but not in Timothy's case. He went to day school. as are Angela and May. I don't understand the English custom of sending their kids to boarding schools, as young as eight years old. It's one thing for kids of high school age, but young kids need their parents.
  14. This comment is for the WIN! 😀 At which time the guilty party will leap up during the trial and tearfully confess!
  15. What was it Se Evangelina said in an early season..."if she goes any farther down doololly hill, we won't be able to care for her." They shouldn't have had to care for her as it was. She should have gone to the mother house. The comments about her being a petulant child are spot on. With all her going on about being useful, in the show where Sheila was too busy with work and family and asked the nuns to help put the name tags in Timothy's school clothes, I wasn't sure why that was necessary as he was like 13 and presumably coming home in the same clothes he went to school in, anyway, Sr Evangelina asked her to help them, and she refused, like it was beneath her.."I am taking my tea to my room!" I agree that her mental faculties being in question was there from the very beginning. What season are you on with the Sopranos? I am considering binge watching them too. At least you're not watching homicidal nuns!
  16. I agree about the birth position, but not about Lucille and Cyril. It's been several years now and they still stay four feet away from each other. No physical contact at all, no talking together like they really like each other, no nothing. I thought last year that they were inching closer, but in this show IMO, it seemed like they were just phoning it in.
  17. Yeah, that's tv, not reality. Also, "so-called" psychics really exist.
  18. If I can come late to the party here, I agree with much of what other people have said. I wasn't going to watch the show, I didn't like much of the writing by the end of the original, but I have seen the last few episodes of this season. Bette and Shane are still looking good. Maybe Helena will come back at some point? Or Dylan? I could be mistaken but it seems as though the show consists mostly of women doing nothing but having sex, whereever and whenever and with whoever they want, even if they barely know each other, like Bette and Pippa. At the workplace, while driving, in the laundry room while the house is full of kids? I think that Bette, Shane and Alice are getting a bit long in the tooth to still be acting like teenagers, and I would like to see some real dialogue between women that isn't fighting or about to have sex. What I really agree with is about Carrie. I get that she would be insecure next to Bette, who wouldn't be, but Bette and Tina have been apart for ages and years, and I don't get what Carrie's problem is. She is all rude to Bette, then cries that Bette won't be her best bud, then tells Tina that she can't marry her because Bette doesn't like her?? then of course Tina will blame Bette, she always does. Bette is the one who was always supposed to do everything, take care of Tina, support her, fix all problems, while Tina does nothing, and then get blamed if she makes any mistake. I am not sure what the disabled woman's name is but I do not like her. She called Sophie? out for not telling the truth about Finley, saying she was dishonest, and then got mad when Sophie told her secret. It is also extremely rude to speak in another language in front of people who don't speak it, no matter what they are talking about, and she did say that Micah's? attempts at speaking Spanish were bad and to stop, not sounding like a native speaker. If I heard that, after trying, I would sure enough not try anymore. Also, I guess Finley is in a world of mess, but I like her, and I don't think Sophie is nice to her.
  19. Also don't forget her tantrums, when she doesn't get her way! Remember when Sr Evangelina...I miss her, told Sr MJ when she brought a Christmas tree home early that it wasn't time yet, and Sr MJ just went walkabout, making everyone worry to death until they found her.
