  1. That, and there may be some other personal reason why they named him that. For that matter, who knows if that is even his real name. Like Duff, for example, I just saw the other day in their birth announcement that his real name is Jeff, but I never knew it, though I have watched him since early Ace of Cakes.
  2. Of course she knows, but there is nothing wrong with expressing concern for her.
  3. I have seen a couple episodes of that and the ones with her friend Melissa Peterman are just hilarious. I don't know if she expects too much from the kids, but IMO they should expect quite a bit from them. They had to have shown skill to be chosen, and $10,000 or however much it is is a fairly sizable prize. Mediocrity or carelessness should not be rewarded. I just wish, like I said, that Duff would be consistent with judging.
  4. I am sure that it was very difficult for her but I have watched recent years and she has been steadily gaining, and like I said, looked heavier this week than ever before. Valerie remarried some time ago, and seemingly happily, but no one ever knows what really is going on. I dislike Larraine. She just really annoys me, and IMO she is not nice to the bakers. I agree also that she doesn't ever taste the food.
  5. Did she seem to be appreciably bigger on last night's show or am I mistaken? I hope she is ok too.
  6. I thought about the handwashing too! I thought Bella deserved the win tonight, and knew D'von would go. I just wish Duff would be consistent with his parameters. I can't remember which one he told was decorated too simply, but I know that Haylin's and Keaton's cakes were also minimally decorated. How hard is it to put a few sprinkles around the bottom and some frosting puffs on the top, or not even those. A couple of them just had the cookie on top. Keaton feels himself somewhat of an expert on cake making but his decorations are not knocking it out of the park, like they should. So either appearance matters or it doesn't.
  7. I know what the expression means. I was responding to the comment that it wasn't said to a child baker just like that, because it was. They aren't cruel to the kids, but they are often very clear about mistakes.
  8. I'm not sure what you mean by "kid gloves." I remember Duff saying that exact thing.
  9. I was afraid that was the reason Bella wasn't cut. I remember Duff telling another baker once that if they made something simple, it needed to be perfect. He told Bella that her flooding technique wasn't correct, there was inconsistency in her piping, and WHY they didn't ask her how she "ran out of time" only making cookies, in two hours, to not be able to decorate them all the same, I don't know. So obviously not perfect, and they said nothing. In regard to some of the other pastries, eclairs, etc, it is hard for me. not really knowledgeable about them, to know what aspects about them need to be present to be considered good. I don't know why Namiah had such trouble with her ganache. I would think adding milk or cream would thin it.
  10. Yes they did say that, but to make a simple cookie, and then not have enough time in two hours to even frost them right, should not have gotten a pass, IMO. None of the other kids went for the simplest, easiest thing to make. The judges are looking for risks taken and skills built on as they progress. Her cookie showed neither. Jonah made cookies too, but they weren't simple by any means.
  11. Because it is insulting, diminishing and inaccurate, if you read the definition. The boys are friends.
  12. Jonah's macarons were lovely and apparently tasted just right also, so he definitely deserved the win. I agree with Duff that they looked like they could be in a pastry shop in Paris. Keaton's cake looked beautiful, but as as Duff said, it was a vanilla cake. I don't think that the boys' friendship should be referred to as a "bromance," Haylin's doughnuts had a couple of slight errors, but she took the risk, as the others did with the eclairs and macarons. Bella made a simple gingerbread cookie with frosting hearts, and that shouldn't have been good enough at the beginning, let alone more than halfway through the competition. I thought that Namiah might have frosted her eclairs with a knife instead of trying to dip them, they could have been swirled with a pretty effect. She had a good attitude after getting sent home though. I thought Haylin's mother was funny.."she's never worked with 5 spice or fresh ginger or ever made doughnuts before. What could go wrong!" I also really hope Nemo gets his puppy! I remember Linsey, a previous season winner and a total cutie, also using her being on tv to lobby for a puppy and she got one.
  13. I could be wrong but I got the impression that she is flat out spoiled at home, and that it revolves around her. She seems to me to want everything that way on the show, too.
  14. Yes I thought that was odd too, that the second part seemed to start mid sentence. I was also hoping to see some different past kids this week, and I agree that it was a little cold to not only talk about the biggest mistakes and the worst tasting bite EVER, but to throw them back at the kids! I did not like how people thought the meme of Peggy? Abby? crying was funny, and especially including the current kids who spoke about it. We went from showing Annika starting the trend of helping another kid in need to laughing at a kid who was stressed out, with a meme made of it. I agree that Cydney was the one to go this week, and noticed that she was the only kid who didn't cry, which of course is a natural response, but affirmed her making it as far as she did. Great attitude! I know Keaton and Haylin are the favorites, though Keaton just seems entitled to me, and his laughing at the meme didn't help me like him, but I think Jonah is also a contender. I think Nemo is a cutie, though others may not agree with it. I would love to see some of the past kids on as guest judges, or in past kid/current kid competition teams similar to one they did on the adult baking championship, one year, with one of the kids being Jane. Ack! We have seen enough Jane!
  15. I really disliked how Bella was ordering D'von to make the caramel, when he had tried several times, like she was the queen or something. She doesn't work well with others. I didn't see the part where D'von was doing these things, and he was wrong to, but I can understand his not wanting to cooperate with Bella. I liked how Haylin and Namiah? not only worked together well but "good jobbed" each other as they left. IMO being a good sport is important in any competition, how the kids help each other, congratulating each other, etc and hopefully the parents are proud of them.
  16. Justice is such a nice looking young man! Definitely one of my favorites. I also always liked Jackson, Peyton, Sam, Madison, Lindsey, Sophie, Meadow and Brynn. Not a fan of Jane at all.
  17. I agree! Bella's whiny attitude and disgusted faces really annoy. I thought it was a cold shot that it was only because of Miabella, who was a total cutie, that Bella got her crepes, and then Miabella is sent home. I know her French toast had errors but so did some of the others. The pizza looked a mess, and the biscuits and gravy looked nothing like biscuits and gravy. I think Haylin is good but her accent bugs, I am sorry! The kids I don't care for are Bella and Keaton, is he the one with the front curly hair? He has an air of arrogance about him that I don't like to see in any kid. Not sure about Cydney. She is kind of working a "cuteness" thing. It was so nice to see some of the kids from past shows. I loved Justice, the Weatherman! Lindsey and Peggy look like such lovely girls. Do not know what was going on with Jane's hair!
  18. I just watched it, and you are right, the 8:00 episode was a repeat of the rainbow cupcakes. From 9:00-11:00 was the dessert impostor episode and an hour of best/funniest moments, in one show.
  19. I don't remember the name of the movie, but the boy was Antonio Sabato Jr, I believe. I remember the scene where he is on the sidewalk, with other boys, and twisting up his shirt.
