  1. Solid episode overall - but my one gripe was how Darius blamed everyone except himself for how his life turned out. Yes, he was treated horribly by the guard; yes, his dreams of joining the Army were dashed. But Darius put himself in a bad position in the first place by getting involved with the armed robbery. Nobody said one single word about this basic fact, however, as though Darius were totally blameless in what happened. Again, I'm not trying to lessen the faults of "the system" or the crooked guard. But Darius should have taken some responsibility as well - he was 17, not 7.
  2. The other day, I was watching the one where Roz's young-twenties cousin Jen came to visit, and Roz was exhausted because Jen wanted to go clubbing every night... Maybe I'm feeling my own age here, but it kind of annoyed me how it was boiled down to an issue of being young vs old, instead of Roz having to get up for work the next morning vs Jen being able to sleep all day if she wanted! But of course nobody said a single word about that.
  3. I tuned in mainly for Neil Flynn...overall I liked the characters themselves, but are they going to spend the entirety of every episode just in that bar/yard? Normally I'd assume not, but somehow I just don't see how they could be elsewhere with this one.
  4. My biggest peeve was that they kept saying social services would put Max into foster care when they discovered he and his dad were homeless...which would NOT happen. Part of my job involves working with homeless families, so I know for a fact this wouldn't happen unless there were also some kind of abuse, neglect or drug/alcohol use, which was definitely not the case here. Social services already has enough genuine cases without taking a kid like Max away from a loving dad who was just down on his luck. IMO it just seemed like a way for the show to create more drama.
  5. Also, does Taylor understand that even if you are pursuing the field of music, you still have to take classes in things like math, science, literature, etc? I was left with the distinct impression she thought she'd spend her days at Carnegie Mellon only singing.
  6. Agreed, the car scene was a bit of an overkill. Sadly, my doctor died two years ago in a similar fashion (not being chased by the FBI, of course, but speeding excessively). His car flipped only once, but it was enough for it to burst into flame and have him killed instantly. As for all the people suggesting Abe had tried to commit suicide, why didn't AJ tell them he had found the front door open?? Surely the doctor wouldn't have done that...
  7. Yeah, I can understand someone doing that...but considering that Sofia Vergara is a natural blonde, she really doesn't seem like one of the folks who can claim that. YMMV, of course.
  8. IMO they've been making a little effort in toning down the kids a bit...for example, this episode had them making up ghost stories to scare one another, which is way more typical for 7-year-olds than wittily assessing their parents' love lives.
  9. IDK why Gloria would say she's acting "like a white woman"...she IS a white woman. Gloria's race is white; her ethnicity is Hispanic. In any case, it didn't really make sense, as the behavior she was citing seemed specifically that of wealthy stay-at-home mom types, a la American Housewife, not a particular race.
  10. I still don't believe the whole Max cancer storyline...I mean, of course I believe it intellectually, but I am not even remembering he's supposedly so ill unless they literally SHOW me Max in the chemo infusion room. They have done zero to convince me with acting, stories, OR makeup (Max is literally robust with good health, color in his cheeks). They show him puking once, carrying around his special shakes (yet his throat is apparently fine with nonstop talking) while he continues to gallop at full speed all over the hospital. If you have to hit viewers over the head in order to buy or even remember the main character's cancer arc, you're doing something really wrong.
  11. Anyone else wonder where baby Jack was?? The older kids were supposed to be at a sleepover, the women at the Bachelor Mansion, and the guys at the club. I guess we're supposed to believe Miggy has a babysitter we've never seen or even heard about.
  12. So are we to assume neither of Toby's parents give a crap about the baby?? I know this is the Pearson Hour and all, but at the very least, someone might have mentioned giving them a call...
  13. Yes, I know - I work in education. But I was pointing out the 5th year/poor grades angle for those who were saying how smart JJ is. He may well be, but that doesn't always translate into doing well in school. For all we know, this could be the result of Maya hovering when he was little, making excuses for him, etc. I could picture that happening.
  14. Don't forget, though, he's now in his 5th year of high school...
  15. As a disabled person who follows various disability-related topics on Twitter, I know this has been a HUGE topic of discussion recently. I appreciate seeing it here.
  16. Was it just me, or was "Special Boy Time" about the creepiest possible term they could have used for Maya and Ray's outing??
  17. Miggy lives next door to Poppy in her duplex (that's why she and Douglas knew his party was loud). As for child support, Will and Poppy may get it, but I doubt Angie does. According to what she's said so far, Graham has never met his dad.
  18. Yes, he was. But I think he said he was adopted as an older child.
  19. My biggest question: Is Katie still working? They mentioned her bonus in the previous ep, so she presumably is...but in my experience, working people generally don't have time for leisurely breakfasts with their friends after dropping the kids off at school...
  20. Sebastian was commenting on Choi's ass, in his hearing...sorry, IMO that is never appropriate.
  21. IMO it was not funny at all...in fact, I was cringing through the whole thing. Whether you're gay, straight or anything else, it is NEVER ok to blatantly hit on someone like that, let alone in a business/professional setting. Imagine the outrage if it were a straight man in this situation, to a woman... Re: Maggie - I took 30 seconds to Google "kidney donor recuperation time" and learned it's 4-6 weeks. You'd think the writers could have done this too.
  22. Yeah, but those are usually volunteers.
  23. My initial thought was that there was something bad in those cookies or whatever she handed to Mina and Devon...like maybe she got mentally confused and put something poisonous in them. That's what I was wondering too! Last week we ended with Jess hesitating outside Nic's door; this week she's already in rehab? I know that sometimes they have to skip things for the sake of time, but it just felt like something important was omitted. I was also wondering why we only saw Nic in snippets this week. Was there some reason the actress was not available for more scenes? She's one of the main characters and always more part of everything.
  24. Per Max, the parking lot attendant wouldn't be running reception, but greeting people and "making them feel welcome"...like a medical clinic version of a Walmart greeter, I guess? While this is a lovely idea in theory, there is absolutely NO way somebody would be given such a superfluous job in today's world. In my experience, nobody goes into a medical clinic even wanting or expecting to be "welcome" - it's not a social visit. You go because you have some urgent medical problem to take care of, period.
