  1. This week is the 30th anniversary of the series finale...hard to believe it's that long! http://mentalfloss.com/article/65515/15-facts-life-about-facts-life I still have issues with the final season (particularly Jo's marriage) but alas, it's really difficult for shows to wrap everything up in a satisfactory way, so I can't fault them too much, I guess.
  2. All I remember is she was Kelly's girlfriend, then they broke up then she moved to Spain I think. Then she came back and liked about being pregnant with his baby. Anything else about her, I don't remember and I bet they will say that the boy is his son somehow. Yes, Kelly was all set to take responsibility for the baby. Then Shay stepped up and basically forced him to get his head out of the sand, literally doing the math out loud for Kelly to realize that the due date did not add up with the last time he'd seen Rene. So Kelly then confronted her and she started bawling about how she'd had this one-night stand, how she knew the baby wasn't Kelly's but just "really wished it was" and so it was like she was mentally trying to make it so. Blech. As for Colannino...anyone else know the second they arrived at the fire that something was going to happen to the guy? For one thing, they rarely work with other units at fires; and for another, why else would they have let us "get to know" the guy's sad little story literally minutes earlier? It seemed painfully obvious that we were supposed to feel badly about his loss, and we couldn't/wouldn't if we didn't know a little something about him. While I get what the writers were trying to do, it was still a bit of a cheap setup, IMO.
  3. True...but at the same time, I couldn't help but focus on her blaming Voight for being the "bad influence" on her husband all these years. I had to wonder, is it a case of someone needing to control an out-of-control situation so they try to pin blame on someone, or does Meredith really not know exactly who her husband is? I doubt she has any clue about many of the things he and Voight have done; but you'd think she'd have a better sense of his overall personality. Part of the reason the two men have worked together so well and been so close all these decades is because they are essentially cut from the same cloth. Neither has ever had to convince the other too much about anything. We've seen many instances where they just make eye contact for a split second and act. It wasn't exactly that he didn't care, but rather that he was looking at the big picture. As he put it, one life lost is better than the many that would most certainly be endangered if all those weapons did hit the streets. Unfortunately, as this show has often indicated, many of these scenarios are not black and white. There are no "good" solutions, just some that are better than others, and even that isn't an exact science, just an educated guess at the best course of action.
  4. This was my biggest WTF. Will was - obviously - needed right where he was. How could he just up and go get Natalie's kid? I could kinda see his reaching out to Jay again after the shooter was caught and having the police track the kid down. But once it was established he and the nanny were fine, couldn't he just relay the info to Natalie so she could relax, and they'd get him later? I'm sure this is one of those little things that will never again be mentioned, though, mainly because it seems it was necessary to finally get Natalie to forgive Will's little rendezvous.
  5. At least this episode had an "explanation" for Lily's absence, although someone sending their child to visit relatives in another state a month before school ends is pretty flimsy. At this point, had Mitch and Cam announced Lily had returned to the orphanage in Vietnam, I wouldn't have been surprised. Is the actress ok? She has been virtually non-existent this season. I tried to Google her but found nothing on the subject.
  6. I dunno...on the one hand, it's good to have the characters with a solid story arc. But on the other, it's pretty ridiculous. Kendra is supposedly busy with law school, but now she suddenly has all this time and interest in managing a restaurant? And Chale was supposedly creating an app or something techy. Now he's suddenly super at restaurant management and full of great ideas, all because he worked in one for a year? And Kevin throws in freakin' $80,000 (meaning that he's making the whole thing happen, not just "helping" as Kendra kept putting it). Sorry, but if I were the one footing the project, I definitely wouldn't apologize for offering a few ideas! Especially when they make sense, like the Whack-a-Mole...Kendra acted like Kevin wanted topless waitresses or something. Then, to top it all off, Kendra throwing a hissy fit and "moving out" (because of course, having your dad's friend offer you a room out of pity is NOT "moving out") At least Chale had the sense to realize what a sweet situation he's got going on, all because of Kevin. Privileged Kendra is apparently so accustomed to getting everything she wants that she has absolutely zero appreciation for any of it.
  7. I wonder if he would respond. I just looked him up on Twitter (@RealRonHoward) and he seems very chatty, responding to all sorts of comments from people. Give it a try! I doubt he'll know any more than we do, though. It just doesn't seem like it was developed much, storywise...for instance, Opie's mother had to have been a relatively young woman when she died. Wouldn't there have been grandparents, aunts or uncles coming to see Opie? All we got was Andy's side of the family.
  8. That's actually one of my peeves on just about every TV show! Nobody ever seems to take their street shoes off in the house, let alone not put them up on the bed. Yuck! As for the episode itself, I didn't hate it but didn't love it either. It seemed like one of those "filler" eps that shows tend to have every so often. The subject, however, I could get behind...basically no matter who you are, no matter what your life, you occasionally have the "what if" moment where you wonder how things would be if you'd chosen a different path at some earlier point. Yes, Katy indicated several times that Anna Kat had been an accident; but as she's also indicated several times in the past, Anna Kat is also her favorite kid, the one she feels is most like her. So I didn't read too much into this. As I'm sure we all have examples from real life, unplanned doesn't necessarily equal unwanted or unloved.
  9. On a random side note, just spotted Mrs. Garrett in an old rerun of King of Queens! Totally wouldn't have recognized her, except for the voice...
  10. Yes, they adopted and then Carrie discovered she was pregnant.
  11. So unless you like every single character and storyline, you shouldn't watch a show?? If that happened, every show would get cancelled due to no viewers... On a related note, as I mentioned on the episode thread, I just read a post critical of Gabby and Matt's relationship. It was immediately followed by an ad for mental health services.
  12. This. As a disabled person with a great deal of muscle damage in the legs, I would LOVE to know Otis' magic! Silly me, taking meds and doing physical therapy for YEARS... On a side note, just as I read a post critical of Gabby and Matt's relationship, I got an ad for mental health ?
  13. Actually, Casey DID have a brain injury...remember? A couple seasons back, he was having so much trouble he literally couldn't fill out paperwork without Severide's help. But this all magically went away, never again even mentioned. I'm no expert in TBIs but I'm pretty sure it generally doesn't work this way...
  14. I don't claim to know anything about this sort of thing IRL, but I doubt that being undercover exempts a person from being subpoenaed, especially if it's about something as serious as murder. Wherever Lindsay is, her superiors know...they put her there, after all. I'm sure they have a way of reaching her in case of emergency.
  15. This. Vanessa is essentially Carrie all over again, playing the mother who has to direct Kevin through every single thing, reminding him a zillion times and then he still drops the ball, as with depositing the check before 4. Who in their right mind would start a business with an idiot who can't pull his own weight? What's more, it really begs the question...how did this guy make it through twenty years as a cop? Cops get orders and have to follow them, quickly and precisely. They can't be distracted by improperly buttered bagels or shiny objects.
  16. I still think he might've made it work with Olivia Benson from SVU (or, as my mother always calls it, SUV)...but I understand the logistic problems of the actors' schedules. IMO he literally has nothing left to lose at this point. Everyone he's ever loved is gone, same as Olinsky. That's a very dangerous position to be in.
  17. Honestly, from the first moment that it was revealed Erin had moved the body, I felt sure that somebody else had had to help her (likely Jay). No matter how awesome and powerful Erin was supposed to be on this show, the fact remains that she's a 5'4" woman who supposedly moved a 5'11" man - solid dead weight, to boot - by herself. Sorry, not likely. As for whether Erin would have done it in the first place, I have mixed feelings. Of course, she didn't want to...we know she literally begged Voight not to kill the guy. But when he did anyways, she likely felt obligated to help protect him however she could...as she put it, she has long owed him and no longer does. We know that Erin has always felt indebted to Voight, which IMO if she were actually taken to trial would likely go into her defense.
  18. My biggest peeve is still how conveniently they are sidestepping the fact that Lindsay would also be subpoenaed with Olinsky. They clearly stated a few episodes back that the witness reported seeing Olinsky with a young woman; then, that part of conveniently forgotten. As Voight himself told Olinsky, it wouldn't take them long to connect the dots, but magically Woods hasn't. It's obvious why they're doing it, as I doubt Sophia Bush wants to come back even to wrap up a previous story. But in that case, they really need to come up with an alternate means of addressing it, such as telling us that she was indeed called in but it happened off screen; or else not going down the road of this story in the first place.
  19. Medical people, do you know how realistic it would be that Maggie would be expected to still have an active paramedic license? I mean, what would be the purpose? It seems she's a senior nurse at Med and has been for years. Is this a common thing or just a plot contrivance?
  20. Exactly. A lot of times, people say they want a "break" as a gentle way of actually breaking up with the person, e.g. kind of easing into the idea. Natalie didn't say anything about what she really meant. On the other hand, as Will mentioned, it WAS only two weeks. He could definitely wait a little long than that before looking for another person. See, I don't know if that's exactly true. At first, when I realized he was about to confess to Natalie, I was all WTF, why would you tell her if it really and truly meant nothing and you didn't even do a anything too significant? But then I realized that hospital scuttlebutt would certainly come back to Natalie, if not Maya herself (by the way she was acting, all flirty and asking Will out for lunch, it seems to me she thinks she's landed herself a boyfriend) so he had to tell Natalie something. Whether it really happened the way he says, who knows?
  21. This!! I was watching this in utter disbelief...for one, that it would be considered appropriate for a sitcom, but for another, for all the reasons you mentioned. Or, in today's world, a neighbor walking by and getting you on the sex offender list. SO many reasons why this was a horrible idea! I found it hard to fathom the normally rational Lena would ever consent to this.
  22. I'm so tired of Rhodes always coming up the hero. I like the guy and all, but they're turning him into a Mary Sue. Can't he be wrong for once? Also, why does Halstead keep running after Manning? She dumps him for literally no reason, but he's the one trying to make up? He has been the one to apologize after every disagreement they've ever had. If Manning really thinks of herself as such a strong, independent woman, let her own her mistakes for once.
  23. This. IMO the way Cruz was acting, it was like the kid should have a free pass for his behavior just because he was upset Cruz hadn't been able to keep his promise. This is an older kid with all his faculties intact who basically vandalized city property in a temper tantrum because his feelings got hurt. Of course Taye shouldn't have been arrested, as he feared; but getting a free pass because he has a single mom, dad in jail, and hurt feelings is also wrong.
  24. Close. It was "business-casual ghost." And that he looked like Diane Keaton, which totally cracked me up.
