Really bummed about Lele. I only saw one mistake dismounting from a lift, not several. I would have preferred she stay over several others. Then they lowballed Jason. I hope that doesn’t become a trend. I am once again an outlier, but I thought both Ariana and Charity needed a lot more oomph. It’s like they were marking their movements or something.

S31.E06: Sarah Snook, Boy George, Miriam Margolyes, Greta Lee
A.Ham replied to dubbel zout's topic in The Graham Norton Show
Ok, I thought I was the only one that didn't always find humor in her crass behavior. She's certainly popular but not for me. -
Ah, this reminds me of an obscure West Wing reference: Toby Ziegler: We're gonna see to all those things. In the meantime, at a time when the public is rightly concerned about the impact of sex and violence on TV, this administration is gonna protect the MUPPETS! We're gonna protect Wall Street Week, we're gonna protect Live from Lincoln Center, and by God, we are going to protect Julia Child!

Dancing All Over The World: Other Versions Of DWTS
A.Ham replied to legaleagle53's topic in Dancing With The Stars
So there are at least 3 celebrity ballroom dancing shows airing at the moment: DWTS--Tuesdays Strictly Come Dancing--Saturdays Mira Quien Baila--Sundays For me, the absolute best one is Strictly, the OG of celebrity dancing. Love that they still have great professional numbers in Ballroom styles as well as outside of Ballroom, like Jazz and Contemporary, etc. They have excellent Pros and do a great job of putting a show together. They have great routines but they don't make the DWTS mistake of throwing everything and the kitchen sink at a dance. Mira Quien Baila is a bit... low-rent. The stage seems smaller, they don't have any ballroom experts on the judging panel (one of the judges is an actress). The costumes are disappointing to me, or at least for my taste--my nitpick about them is that I do not need to see that many bumcheeks when watching people dance. Some of them outfits would make Edyta blush. On the other hand, they do have more authentic music as well as a lot more variety of Latin Rhythms, like Regional Mexican, Quebradita, Merengue and Bachata. They also do hip hop and urban dances, though those are usually rather disappointing. They have some good pros on their roster, so you can see some good dancing from time to time. -
The Len tribute already had me misty eyed. Then the pros all finished and looked at the chair he sat in all those years and tears were streaming down my face. RIP Len Goodman.

Oh, you're right--I think she asked Maks in a rapid fire type of question to name the most annoying celebrity he had or some such. He clearly did not want to do that (don't blame him at all) and ended up not giving her a name. But she did try.

So I just discovered that Cheryl Burke has a podcast! I am loving it! Interesting that she is already saying she's getting some push back, even an email from one of the Pros. I don't see anything wrong with what she is doing/saying. She talks about her experiences and gets others to talk about theirs; so far she has had Sharna, Brian Austin Green, Max, and Tom on. Tom was wonderful as always.

You may be on to something here. But, not being too nitpicky, I am not sure if I want to watch a whole night of disco. If you throw in other genres like Hustle, West Coast Swing, and more non-traditional ballroom genres, that may make it more interesting. The list of genres they could try is quite expansive. I have always wanted to see Bachata acknowledged on the show as a dance form on its own, but that would veer us back to Latin night. Emo night--don't we already have that? Most memorable year--or as I call it, the Hardship Olympics. I have no objections to a new romantics night... Overall, non-Disney theme nights would be a welcome surprise.

😄 😄 😄 So on the first show I loved Lele and Mira, but both seem to be fizzling out. Lele needs more finesse and to not go so hard 100% of the time, and Mira needs a boatload of confidence. Maybe Mira is better suited to ballroom than to Latin. Jason, on the other hand, keeps going up in my estimation. He is just delightful. Also liking Xochitl's progress.

Right? Who even has that kind of time? No wonder his house was a pigsty.

Just watched “Losing Faith”. This was new to me. Holy $#**. What a manipulative, sadistic monster Jennifer is. She really took advantage of Darrin’s vulnerability with his PTSD. At some point the detective said they exchanged 24,000 messages. Dear lord. I was rather skeptical when they were going on about how Jamie was not the man people said he was, especially when they mentioned Jamie was texting Darrin from Jennifer’s phone. Uh-huh. I was also curious how they got all those pictures of young Darrin-likely he had spoken to Dateline staff to give his side of the story. She got her unsuspecting husband killed and a decorated war veteran to do her bidding in blind belief. Complete scum. I can’t imagine how Darrin’s daughters feel about all this. They are also collateral victims here.

I had this on in the background while cleaning so was not watching directly, but from the get-go I got creepy vibes from stepdad and it didn't get any better from there. Poor kid.

Just started this yesterday afternoon and love, love, love this show! Not surprising since I also loved The West Wing. I even clocked it as being similar to TWW and then saw Deborah Cahn's name on the second episode. Yes, you do have to have suspension of disbelief, but is there any television show where you don't have to do that to varying degrees? I mean, show me a television program that sticks to everyday realities and I will show you one that no one watches. I only saw the first three episodes but hoping to have time to catch the rest in the next couple of days...

This. I could barely finish the thing after Minna's death. So not one, but two pets killed, felt rather gratuitous. And then they kill the sweet, defenseless dementia patient (I admit that one hit close to home as my mother is in the advanced stages of dementia). I must not be made for the genre--watching the prick let his father just choke to death with very little attempt to save him just repulsed me. By the time we watched Grace kill him, it was way overdue in my opinion. The whole thing could have been much shorter and I wish they would not have dragged it out so much.

The Last Thing He Told Me - General Discussion
A.Ham replied to CheshireCat's topic in The Last Thing He Told Me
Well, that ending sucked in my opinion. Really wish I hadn't spent time watching this. -
I do the same with my DVR. DVR's are not for everyone--mine is old as dirt but still works. And personally, if I already have to keep paying close to $200 per month for cable (long story) I would rather not have to pile on a streaming service. So this works for me.
-
I'm glad I am not the only one. Just catching up with the show and felt the same way initially, but I am getting better at it. Just finished this episode so I have not seen it all yet.

This irks in particular because she never wastes an opportunity to use it as a way to one-up others. And in Lim's case, there's a difference in her type of disability, yet Powell seems to have anointed herself the guru here when it comes to Lim's needs. Come on now. She's really starting to come off as over-invested and creepy.

Me too! On Spanish TV no less! Great to see him.

So I have only been watching whatever goes up on youtube because I refuse to pay for yet another streaming service on top of the exorbitant cable bill. So I can't say I've seen any of the judge's comments or behind the scenes segments. I have only watched the dancing through the semifinals. When I started watching this season it was already half way through, I began only looking for Wayne and knew no one else. But then youtube recommendations started to change, and I liked Joseph Baena (even if he needed to get a bit more loose), really liked Jordin, I liked Gaby well enough, and Shangela was a delight. Shangela even really change my view on Gleb. But Charli blew me away. I actually really connected to the beauty in her dancing. I get that it's not what everyone looks for (I am usually in the outlier group that just wants to watch good dancing). I wanted Charli to win so I am very happy she did, and I say it is well deserved. I did not vote for her (I don't vote for anyone) but I am happy she did not need my vote. That Viennese Waltz was really superb.

Dancing All Over The World: Other Versions Of DWTS
A.Ham replied to legaleagle53's topic in Dancing With The Stars
Add one more person to the MQB crossover watcher. The show falls for the same pitfalls that DWTS does (judges blathering on and on, people with 0 rythm advancing waaay too far--this year Ferdinando made it all the way to the semifinals, dear lord). They have a seriously annoying thing they do--they cutaway to the judge's reactions in the middle of the dance. Sooooo annoying. They did this in the semi's. It really frosted my bum because they spent time talking about this complicated trick Maria was going to do, which the pro only did with another pro, and how dangerous it was etc. So Maria started the trick and then the camera... goes to the judges. I mean, at least let us watch the full trick. Having said that, I really enjoyed Maria and Ana Isabelle. And for once, the best technical dancer (Maria) won. I did prefer Ana Isabelle because I connected with her a bit better, even though she kept being accused of being a perfectionist and cold by the judges, which I did not see. If they were going in that direction, they could have said the same thing about Maria. But I digress.... Also agree that I much preferred Miguel's dancing to Jorge's. Those judges done did Miguel wrong with what I felt was sometimes undeserved criticism towards him, and putting him at the bottom when Ferdinando was right there. But according to them, Ferdinando was great at "character acting". The show is called Mira Quién Baila, not Mira Quién actúa. I really would have put Miguel in the top 3 instead of Jorge, who I just did not connect to. Michelle could have made it farther than she did also. Anyways, just my two cents. Thanks for mentioning MQB on here! -
I remember thinking the same thing at the time. The wet racoon look models sometimes go for...

The Annual Academy Awards - General Discussion
A.Ham replied to thuganomics85's topic in The Academy Awards (aka The Oscars)
I wish the Oscars could have at least tried to do something like this: Strictly Come Dancing cast does Encanto (low resolution video) They could learn a thing of two from the British.... and they could have even had some original cast singing. Wasted opportunity in my eyes.
