  1. I can't help but wonder if Jo was the character who scored poorly in the focus groups. She has been on the show longer than Maggie, but has barely had decent character development and only started being part of the main group, aka attached to Meredith, this season. Maggie fits if only for the Jaggie pairing and Sarah being the obvious roadblock, but she has also been part of Meredith's circle since season 11 and there's been plenty of character development for her in the time that she's been on the show.
  2. She actually announced her return to Grey's Anatomy on April 28, 2017, three weeks after filming wrapped on the season. This isn't to say that she hadn't been consulting on the final episode or two to help steer direction of where she wanted to start the new season (for instance, firing Minnick and making Ben a central figure in the firefighting rescue as a prelude to eventually spinning off to Station 19).
  3. I had a feeling that the Jolex proposal that sticks would be the one where Jo proposes. I'm happy for Alex. He deserves all the good things. I would've loved to have seen Team Peds working together on this kid, and Arizona being someone Alex could talk to. Unfortunately they've isolated her with Fetal surgery and babysitting the seat filler (sister Deluca), so much so that she wasn't even in the episode. I really enjoy Tom Koracick and wish he could stick around. Amelia's tumor arc is pointless if her and Owen are just going to hook back up again. I'd rather see her with Andrew for some attending-resident action.
  4. I agree that they knew and planned for Sara's departure. There wouldn't have been that character-assassinating custody story if they didn't. I just meant that they played that departure without fanfare and brushed it under the rug in an attempt to avoid potential backlash, because Patrick's departure the year before was public and messy. It seems that now they are trying to get ahead of it with forewarning these departures and, with 10 episodes left to air, probably hope that things will settle down by the season finale.
  5. Jessica's is up at the end of this season. She had signed a three year deal at the end of season 11. Not sure about Sarah Drew. @beautifulGA Patrick had the biggest backlash, so much so that the cast was put on a gag order to not even talk about it. Sara announced her departure right after the season finale, so that was unexpected and shocking but there was the summer hiatus as a buffer. I think with Jessica and Sarah, viewers have reached their limit of losing more tried and true characters and, rightfully, people are annoyed.
  6. *4 seasons ago. They should've wrapped it up when Cristina left. I know Ellen likes to boast about how the show was able to succeed and continue on after Cristina and then after Derek, because Meredith don't need no man, but in reality the show hasn't been as good ever since. Of course, that doesn't matter when the show continues to pull in ratings thus raking in big bucks for the network. But look where things are now? Two more beloved characters exiting the series, casting even more of a shadow over the show that once was. Honestly, if they can't manage to bring back the departed fan favorites for the series finale, it will end up being a dud.
  7. Elective c-sections are not uncommon in the states and contribute a very low percentage to maternal mortality. I know the method isn't considered ideal, but someone please send Andrew's useless sister back to Italy. What was the purpose of that storyline if not to give her yet another opportunity to speak Italian? GMAB
  8. When the grandmother fired Alex off the case, I foolishly hoped that Arizona would step in and then Team Peds would be reunited to work alongside Amelia to help Kimmie. Instead, Arizona is being wasted babysitting the horny sister and playing in OB after insisting many times in the past that she's not, in fact, OB. Is it any wonder why they are cutting the character loose at the end of the season? Still enjoying Tom Koracick. And Bailey and Richard laughing over the surveillance video was a great moment. I care not about Andrew and Sam. Isn't she going to Roswell?
  9. I don't think either are going to get killed off. And Sara Ramirez doesn't have to make an appearance for Arizona to take Sofia and move to NY if that's what came to be. Arizona moving to Italy with a woman she's barely in a relationship with would be as bad as Callie moving to NY with Penny, not to mention make things more difficult for Sofia with her mothers in different countries. I should hope that since tptb have released this departure information with 11 episodes left to air, that they will do both Arizona and April justice.
  10. HAHAHA Grey's is weak when it comes to continuity. It's like after season 10 they just threw it all out the window and started writing for plot and not for the characters.
  11. Wash, rinse, repeat. While season 14 is a lot less frustrating and all around better than season 13, I'm starting to find it rather boring. And to think there are probably two more seasons to recycle, retcon and twist characters around. @Joana April told Arizona in the last episode that she drinks a bottle of wine in order to sleep, but of course Arizona brushed that off because she completely disregarded her friend in favor of reading maternal mortality stats. I'm glad Arizona got her wake up call at the end of this episode, but it shouldn't have even had to get that far. Not much seems different from last season where Arizona's number one priority is her sexual relationship. I do hope to see more Supportive Friend Arizona and less Sexual Partner Arizona. And where's Mom Arizona? She's raved about sex more than her daughter, who is now home with her.
  12. Can Koracick please stay? I'd happily trade him for at least three current characters. One of the moments I loved in tonight's episode was him and Kimmie sparring over musical theater. The other moment was Alex singing with Kimmie. Swoon! I didn't care much for Ben moping around the hospital. At this point, I only really tolerate him because he's married to Miranda. I don't care about his third major career change so, needless to say, he's not a huge draw for me for the spin off. The new leading lady, Andy, seems pretty cool though. Maybe now Arizona will start being a supportive friend to April. Up until these later seasons, she didn't used to be as self-centered and shallow as she has become. Hellmouth, Dahlia, and Casey Parker are great examples of how to use the interns. They're charming and cooky in the right ways. I find the ones the show has tried to force front and center, Glasses and the Dancer, to be very annoying.
  13. The same could be said for most of the characters. Arizona, for one, who at this point is just a revolving door of relationships. If the show is going to insist on adding more characters full time for next season (and they will), I rather it be Teddy than someone like Sister Deluca or whatever other new person they try to shoehorn in between now and the season finale.
  14. Good for the actress. That intern was the most bothersome of the new interns, as far as I'm concerned. Here's hoping tptb won't try to replace her with another warm body. There are more than enough characters to work with as it is.
  15. I was wondering the same thing. They constantly keep writing Arizona as SINGLE, but forget that with Callie in NY and Sofia back with her in Seattle, she is a full time SINGLE MOTHER. But her parenting takes a backseat to her relationship status, as does doctoring for the most part when they can figure out what it is exactly that she does.
  16. I'm bothered that Amelia and Alex didn't make the competition. Recent Harper Avery award winner Meredith isn't going to win this one. I mean I know she's the sun, but that'd be overkill. Because Dr. Valez is the patient, will she get credit if Jackson and Catherine were to win? She did come up with the idea. I know this is petty of me, but I don't want Arizona to win for the simple fact that Andrew's useless sister is her partner. That's a guest star who's getting a whole lot of attention for doing the least. Also, Arizona saying that her and April's patient, Karen, had been in pristine health was a bit WTF for me. Karen died because she had a blood pressure problem that ran lower than most, so when it looked normal while she was in labor it was actually dangerously high. I wouldn't necessarily categorize that as "pristine health", but then again the Arizona of recent years likes to exaggerate. I care not for Andrew and his intern girlfriend. Intern Casey, Hellmouth and the one that was dorkily crushing on Jackson are the ones I can stand out of that group.
  17. A wonderful episode. I've always been a fan of Miranda Bailey, and she is one of few that I'm happy to see get a focused episode. The different stages of younger Bailey were adorable, and Chandra Wilson's acting is exceptional. I appreciated the flashbacks for many different reasons, and Amy Landecker's guest stint was a fun addition. Miranda and Ben are proof that Shondaland/the Grey's writers are more than capable of writing a relationship without resorting to unnecessary drama for the sake of soapy shenanigans.
  18. Is the new award only for GSM hospital? That's what it seems like with the plot of having everyone compete against each other with one of their own (April) being in charge. If this were a more widespread event, you'd think they'd get an actual non-biased committee to run it. In which case, how prestigious can the award really be if the only people who get to play are your coworkers? At most this is coming off as bragging rights.
  19. Miranda and Ben having "the talk" with little Tuck was one of the most powerful and affecting moments this show has ever had. The reality of it is heart wrenching, and it's execution was beautifully done. I'm all for April's crisis of faith but I don't think sleeping with a random intern was necessary for whatever journey she's going on. Didn't care for that. Sister Deluca needs to STFU about orgasms and sex already. She shouldn't have even been in the episode, once again highlighting what a waste of time she is. The appearance of Matthew made me wonder: why isn't he part of the spin-off? Paramedics are first responders and work closely with firefighters. Including him would've been another tie to the flagship.
  20. I don't think it's going to be one of our doctors. How can it be if the DV story is supposedly resolved by the end of this episode?
  21. Don't think for a second that Horny Deluca won't be featured in an Arizona episode. All tptb know how to write for Arizona anymore is her love life. Her daughter is back and we've only gotten one episode of her focusing on motherhood, the 300th episode, and that's it.
  22. It will most certainly bother me if some nobody like Orgasm Deluca gets to compete in the competition, but April who is one of our own does not. Innovations in Trauma surgery and technique are equally as beneficial, someone could come up with a faster and less invasive approach to triage for example. I suppose I should reserve judgement before seeing how it all unfolds, but my point is that if this nonsense contest is going to be a thing for the doctors to compete in and build the hospital's reputation, then I'd like to see OUR doctors actually be the ones going head to head. And if Bailey is too busy to run it, and Richard wants to participate (which he has every right to), then instead of bringing in shallow love interest #124, Catherine could run it or could have brought in a Guest Star (someone older, refined, maybe even a bit of a stickler) to keep the competition in order.
  23. I, personally, think it's because the showrunners/writers think that viewers are simply that gullible, and that because Meredith is said to be "the sun" and The Grey, that her stamp of approval on something means that viewers are going to go along with it. As if we can't form our own opinions on a character or situation. I don't necessarily think they take into account that viewers have different favorites across the board, and that Meredith is not "the sun" for everyone despite that being the (current) narrative of the show.
  24. Does this mean April doesn't get to actually participate in the competition? That sucks if so.
