S09.E08: The Mystery Date Observation 2015.11.12
CMH1981 replied to adhoc's topic in The Big Bang Theory [V]
Sheldon's date was actually on the show previously when the guys used satellites to find the ANTM house. So who do you think will spill the beans to Amy that Sheldon was going to propose? I know only Leonard and Penny know as of now, but I figure it's only a matter of time till the rest of the gang finds out. I figure it will play out like the scene from Friends where they watch the video of Ross getting dressed to take Rachel to prom, unbeknownst to Rachel of course. -
Wow, that last scene b/t Jimmy and Gretchen was awful. I don't know how depression works, but I mean seriously, Gretchen couldn't just sit there and let Jimmy vent?! I do think Jimmy recognizes that Gretchen is going through something, he isn't sure how to fix it, but he knows he can't push anymore since that backfired. I wish he would talk to Lindsey about it since she has dealt w/ it before...although I could see Gretchen thinking that it could be a betrayal of her friendship. I only could see a brief few seconds of next week's promo b/c of my dvr cutting it off, but it looks like things come to a head b/t Jimmy/Gretchen/bar owner. Lindsey has a good voice. I really thought Lindsey and her husband might fix things, on Lindsey's part but it looks like that isn't going to happen. I wonder if Lindsey and the rapper might start something up. So we saw how the letter sending has gone so far...the gift pkg from NAMBLA, his family visiting...i wonder how long till we see the love letter to Becca plays out.

In the end though, we find out that Frond didn't dump Gayle, she just assumed he lied when he said he was going to his aunt's for the holiday.

Patricia Heaton Parties - General Discussion
CMH1981 replied to Meredith Quill's topic in Patricia Heaton Parties
I find her personal politics totally a turn off but I love her acting in ELR and the Middle that I too just look past it. I do wonder though if she is as staunch in her political beliefs as she used to be, b/c let's face it she works in Hollywood and well...she did have her makeup artist on her first episode. -
Grisgris, don't forget her go to spices...chili powder, garlic salt, seasoning salt, red pepper flakes, ground red pepper, siracha sauce, and more.
-
Is it just me or did Kristen Bell's voice acting become even more recognizable as the episode went on? When Harper was first introduced Bell's voice was instantly recognizable, but then it was like there was a shift or something and it sounded like completely somebody else.
-
Yeah, that waffle iron pizza came out looking too perfect, and it didn't look like there was much of an ooey gooey mess on the top part. I forgot, did Ree use anchovy fillets/paste in her caesar salad dressing? I mean what college student doesn't have anchovy paste/fillets in their emergency college pantry supplies?!

Patricia Heaton Parties - General Discussion
CMH1981 replied to Meredith Quill's topic in Patricia Heaton Parties
I found that so enjoyably hilarious, b/c i've done that as well and it took me awhile to get it to pop, even peeled...but damned if you don't drop one at the grocery store, or in my instance a whole case of them when I used to stock the shelves at a grocery store in my past, and they all explode open. Talk about embarrassing. -
It was so interesting to see Norma Rae on the Essentials tonight where the star, Sally Field is the current co-host. I loved that it was Robert Osborne and others who deem this film as an Essential to Field's somewhat duress. I do find it interesting that some stars refuse to watch their films, like Sally. I've heard stories where at some of the red carpet events some stars will walk press line but when it comes to the actual viewing of their film, they leave so they don't have to watch their own performance, which to be honest I would probably do the same. When Sally talked about how the director fought for her based off of her performance in the tv-movie Sybil, I was really hoping they might discuss that tv-movie a little more, Sally's performance and would have loved to have TCM air that film after Norma Rae. I would love to have Robert and Sally have a 30 min session discussing her career b/c you could tell she wanted to talk about it, but was struggling to come up w/ the right words/phrases. I didn't know she struggled so hard to make the transition from tv comedies to film. To think if it wasn't for Sybil showing her range we might never have gotten some of her great work.

Retro TV Channels: ”The Good Old Days of Television”
CMH1981 replied to Actionmage's topic in Network Talk
Yeah, I've made it through one cycle of RFD on MeTv, and we are almost done w/ the last season again. It is such a boring show, and it is so dated as well, whereas TAGS has never seemed dated to me, even after Don Knotts left. I've only decided to stick it out through another cycle of the show b/c I figure this will be the last time I will ever want to see the show again. -
Patricia Heaton Parties - General Discussion

Well another episode w/ her friends...er...co-workers and family. I do have to say the potatoes looked good, and I was glad to see she actually diced the sausage up into actual edible pieces, instead of chunks like I could see other chefs on the FN would have done. I really can't believe she would go the extra effort to make her cupcake mix from scratch when other episodes we saw she was totally okay w/ going the easy route. The icing still looked way too thick to be spreadable. -
One of them was interested in cooking, but I can't recall which one it was. It was the one that enjoyed cooking/baking for Edna Mae.
-
To be fair I imagine w/ all the care packages that Ree sends, that under Alex's bed is boxes filled w/ empty jars, containers, and the box full of condiments and spices. I will admit the waffle maker pizza and quesadilla looked good, but I know I won't ever make them...hell I have a waffle iron and I still buy frozen waffles.. Everything else she made looked like crap, but that's par for the course. Where did she get the mini Worcestershire sauce? That was cute. I do agree that Ree is delusional about the space that dorm rooms have. I remember having a mini fridge, but I also remember having to do dishes in the bathroom sink, from cereal, soup, whatever. Perhaps Ree got Alex a private dorm suite.

Snark Talk: Home, Home on the (De) Ranged
CMH1981 replied to film noire's topic in The Pioneer Woman
She...well the Drummond Cattle Co...pays for her show. Food Network basically just has to air it, so they really aren't out that much money unlike other shows that the FN produces and pays for the talent and everybody else...plus she brings in her already built in fanbase. I guess being part of a family that is filthy rich has it's benefits. -
I agree, I didn't feel he was hitting on Gretchen, just that he was so desperate the go out and be included w/ the fun people...who have two trash cans overflowing of empty bottles of booze. I do think though that once he got to know Jimmy and Gretchen more he would push to see if they "swing" b/c i'm betting he was that type of guy before he got tied down w/ a wife and kid. I'm so curious to see how Gretchen and Jimmy's storyline will end for the season/series, b/c I really don't think these two will end up together in the end. Has this show been renewed? I don't know about the ratings or if FXX has renewed the show, personally I think moving their hit shows like this and It's Always Sunny to this network was a mistake. I think FXX really just needs to segue into only reruns of the Simpsons, KotH, FG, American Dad, Futurama, Bob's Burgers, and whatever other animated series they want to show.

S5 started this week on Pop, and watching the first episode again I have to wonder why they didn't just rename the show Joey's Creek at this point. It is so strange how the focus of the show went from Dawson to Joey and her college adventures. The scene of Joey jogging all over Boston was ridiculous. That outfit was skimpy, and the phone would have been pulling those shorts down, nevermind the fact we have never seen Joey work out in her life. I do think that having Pacey relocated to Boston was such a ludicrous idea. His storylines from this point on were boring and tedious to get through. If anything he should have stuck around in Capeside as a way to tie the characters back to home and bring everything around full circle. I wonder how much Grams got for her house to be able to afford that swanky pad she now has. It's funny seeing all these old styles of cellphones compared to what we have today. Just a stupid observation I guess.

So S4 wrapped up on Pop, and here are some of my thoughts on the last few episodes. Promicide...so all of a sudden we find out Pacey has been hating Joey and how she makes him feel, which is insignificant b/c he messed up and might not graduate or be able to get into a college. This is one of the few times that I really felt bad for Joey b/c she was ambushed and everything Pacey said on that boat wasn't true. I of course never cared for the Pacey/Joey pairing, but why did they feel the need to rewrite their relationship post sailing trip? Was it just to set up the Dawson/Joey rekindling? Was the show on the bubble and possibly not going to be renewed for the college years? The Jen confronting her father storyline was a bore, as was the therapist story arc. You can tell that Jen had father issues by her stalking and somewhat adoration of the therapist, were they really going to go w/ a romantic storyline for the two of them? So how did Jen expect to afford college w/o applying for loans or scholarships? There was not reason that her parents couldn't have paid for her schooling, regardless of her feelings about their past relationship. If anything Grams should have been telling her daughter to fork over the money. I know it was somewhat rushed, but the pairing of Dawson/Joey for the final episode of the season just felt awkward. Joey is still in love w/ Pacey at this point, and vice versa...but she is ready to ask Dawson to stay so they can figure out their relationship. Ah well...onto S5 and the downfall of this show.

Aya Cash is killing it this season. My heart broke watching that last scene where it seemed like her whole world came crashing down around her b/c what she thought she wanted was just that, too good to be true. If this show was on another network, one of the main ones she would be bringing home some nominations for her acting this season, and it's a shame she won't be b/c the acting she does w/ her face is incredible. I was kinda pissed at the nanny though, for acting like a bitch. Yes, last "we" saw Gretchen was abducting the child, or so we thought, but to give a total stranger a child...seriously?! It just made me mad that when Gretchen finally handed the child back to her, she acted like Gretchen was some wicked child abductor.

So was it just me or were the thought bubbles during the hike looking like they were more for Ree than the dogs. Jesus Christ that oatmeal, talk about taking something healthy and making it not. I was shocked she didn't put diced up bacon and some melted butter on top of that. I get the impression sometimes she just drives around the backroads of Oklah....er Osage County, talking to herself and looking to an empty passenger seat. I call crap that all she ate was those noodles, and where was the extra butter, bacon, or meat?! So the quadruple-proofing her new cookbook, now available at your local Walmart, to make sure there are no mistakes mean that there have been errors in the past she was called out on? Yeah, i'm giving Nancy the win in the Ree vs Nancy lamb chop battle today, as well as the mint jelly. She couldn't even bake the potato, she nuked it? I'm surprised she didn't tell us to make sure to puncture the potato or else it could explode...which she learned the hard way. The green beans looked good until the blue cheese chunks....she can't call those crumbles, nope. "I can't leave well enough alone....the Ree Drummond story" For some reason, I just picture after she ate/drank all that, Ladd and the kids drive up and says "what's for dinner hon" and we then realize that she ate all of this in a span of six hours ( 7am to 5pm). Wouldn't it be funny after filming the episodes or getting back to the ranch she rips off her hair ala Kimberly from original recipe Melrose Place. At this point it would consist of Giada going through her list of available men for her to bone w/, work out, and trying to cook a meal that will keep her energy up to continue that fake smile and for other activities.
-
I too saw the "i'm a woman and i will celebrate my husband by cooking a meal from the first time we held hands" promo and thought, why can't she just cook to cook. Just a regular dinner for her and David, no friends, family, or special event or made up holiday. That shrimp scampi looked amazing, as did the green bean salad.

Patricia Heaton Parties - General Discussion
CMH1981 replied to Meredith Quill's topic in Patricia Heaton Parties
Well this week we got mini quiches w/ pre-made pie dough, another boozy cocktail, some bean puree in endives, and fondue. The mini quiches looked good, but why couldn't she have used pre-made phyllo dough, or am I thinking of something else? I've never had a quiche before, I guess I don't run in the right circles, but I always thought for mini ones you use something other than pie crust. That bean puree looked awfully runny/soupy after she ran it through the food processor, and it made her mashed potato story make total sense. How could she mess up mashed potatoes? I didn't understand that at all. She said, like it is gospel, that she now knows mashed potatoes must be put through a ricer b/c if you use a mixer it just messes them up to where they look and taste like drywall paste. The only thing I could think of was she must be making some healthy alternative version b/c I use a mixer all the time but I add butter, salt, pepper, and some milk or half/half or heavy cream, sometimes a little cheese. I'm glad PH has decided to bring back fondue b/c I have to say I haven't seen it on another cooking show in like....30 minutes. Does it speak to the viewers that her only friends she can get to these "parties" are people she works w/ or work for her? -

Luckily, PH has enough camera appearances that she is able to do the talking and baking simultaneously where it doesn't come off stilted or awkward, unlike other tv personalities....cough-Ree Drummond-cough. -
So I was watching S4 on ABC Family before they decided to deep-six it for the time being, but luckily Pop (formerly TV Guide Channel) was in the midst of S3, so i've picked up on S4 again. This is the season where we get to meet another Witter sibling, who magically falls for Dawson so we can have an either more awkward situation in the fractured Dawson/Joey/Pacey triangle. Why did they make Gretchen seem like some wise person who can share her own advice with the teenagers from Capeside High when it is so obvious she is much more fucked up than our group. I mean yeah she is older, but just by a few years and has already screwed up her life and now comes back trying to reclaim her youth so to speak. I hated the pairing of Dawson and Gretchen, it was just ugh... I did love how in the first episode of S4 we see that Pacey has this need to be controlling over Joey outside of their summer sailing love fest. He tries to drag her away just b/c he doesn't want to deal w/ anybody anymore so he tries to keep her to himself and nobody else. I never thought they made a good pairing, and this just showed how bad they were together.

I wasn't sure what a good "all episodes" thread title would be, but all i think of is lemon chicken from ELR when it comes to Patricia Heaton and cooking so here we go. I watched the series and I was kind of in awe of it...and not in a good way. The food was just eh....everything was pre-made basically, out of cans or jars. It made me think of another party type of show that used to be all over the FN. Nothing she made would I try on my own. I felt bad for the guests/cast members that she probably begged to come on to sell this show. Her comments were a little crass as she seems to be a humble-braggart about her career and accomplishments. I love train wrecks and I will stick around for this one. -
Ugh....Tandy just stop. I'm surprised that it didn't blow up in his face more than it did. I figured they would just forgive Todd for the time being and punish Tandy for not coming forward quicker. I'm confused about new-Phil continuing to hit on Carol. I thought it was established that Carol and Tandy got re-married during their time away from the gang, am I wrong?
