  1. Anyone else see the first episode of Nigella: At Home (airing Sundays on the BBC)? is that really her home? LOL. I was worried that she had gotten herself too skinny practicing "yoga" (which she claims has given her her svelte figure---as opposed to the "blow" diet she had been on in the past, haha) anyway, she looks very good. The recipes on this first show looked delicious (I was not impressed by her last series.) Glad that she is back--just her use of language in describing food is a treat IMO.
  2. Same here never harassed but I have worked for myself most of my life. Besh goes beyond being a player, basically he is accused of raping an employee--what a phoney.
  3. I'm glad that someone brought this up--I am in shock, for one thing, I am sure that I am not the only person who had a TV crush on Besh he is just so "aw shucks" cute, clearly finding a woman on the side would have been no problem, so he thought it would be more exciting to drug a woman and have relations with her without her consent? my mind boggles.
  4. My boyfriend! so glad that the states get to see this season--I pay for the privilege of seeing it ahead of time, but considering how much I love this camp classic, well worth the investment.
  5. can you explain a bit about the character you are referring to using spoiler tags in case someone wants to read the book? One other thing I like is figuring out what Rowling is using for inspiration, she is clearly very well read in many areas, mythology for example. In this 2 parter I believe that she was thinking of Sylvia Plath and Ted Hughes as the jumping off point for the writer whose wife committed suicide (in exactly the same fashion Plath killed herself.)
  6. I watched both episodes last night and I really enjoy Jo Rowling skewering the publishing industry, I also think that the story captures how torn women can be, Robin feels torn between her job and her BF, I understand the yearning for fulfillment through a job, but also wanting to support your partner, I thought that theme was extremely well done. As for the outcome, my only question is how the killer managed all that? not the most robust murderer I have seen, LOL. Anyway, I hope that there will be another series--I don't mind dark, I like the fact that Rowling is free to stretch out into adult themes, the woman is a cracking story teller.
  7. Oh good, I look forward to seeing the remaining episodes. Rowling may not be original but she is a cracking story teller.
  8. Alas I had figured out who dun it at the end of episode 2--however, I have decided not to care if I can solve mysteries ahead of time or not, I liked all the details and the leads, and I hope that they do another series (and that Americans get a chance to see the show as well.)
  9. re Burke, I find his looks quirky enough (I wonder if he had a cleft palate as a baby?) he is not a pretty boy, but what in the hell is up with the "emo" cop that he is working with, LOL?, I have never read Strike books, but I loved the Potter books and I also loved The Casual Vacancy, so I am enjoying this so far. Grainger is, of course, ridiculously beautiful (how was she written in the books?) I have a suspicion on who dun it--but I am hoping that I am wrong. I am sure that BBCAmerica will pick this up or maybe Masterpiece Mystery? I use the dark arts to see it here in the USA.
  10. I agree, I thought that the scene where Jon goes to her and looks at her almost resignedly (he couldn't fight the attraction and stopped trying) was fantastic, romantic, sexy, I didn't need it to be any longer. The fact that they are blood related is creepy to modern eyes, but they are the same age, never knew one another, yada, yada, yada. It certainly sets up a tough dilemma for the last season.
  11. I am not as invested in the series as a lot of people even though I have read every. single. increasingly ponderous. book. I thought the episode was epic, I do wish that Jon and Dany weren't so closely related but hey, there is nothing that can be done about that. I also laughed a lot as the Magnificent 7 journeyed on--the Hound's repartee especially tickled me, I cried when the dragon died. I do rather hate the way the Double Ds chose to end the Benjen storyline, but what the hell? LOL. I try not to think too rationally about some of the action in the episode (such as the speed at which Gendry got help, etc.) Ultimately, the David's have to move the story along to some conclusion--in the books isn't Dany is still freaking 14? Considering the length of the books plenty of editing had to be done and I certainly appreciate that. BTW, I just had to look up Kit's height--supposedly 5'8 which probably means in 5'6 IRL.
  12. Because I haven't had HBO in 2 years I have been following the series by clips, LOL,but I watched this week's episode (6) Killer stuff--I will say no more, but dang, the books frustrated me in so many ways, I love the way the DDs have taken the story.
  13. As an enthusiastic Harry Potter fan who read all the books more than twice, I know the frustration of book vs film, I am happy that I haven't read the Poldark books and can enjoy the series for what it is. I watched the 70's version but that was so long ago I don't remember the storyline. I will miss this show until next year, although I don't really have any "burning" questions about what will happen, I will be interested to see opinions when the greater number of Americans get to see the season in about a month (I'm a Yank but use the means available to watch it online) at any rate, I was dissatisfied with Hugh, but think that it was the actor who bothered me most, I also find the Drake/Morwena romance touching, and look forward to seeing if the other cute Carne brother can tame his shrew, LOL. I also loved the new assertive Elizabeth, I finally got a bit of a clue why so many men were drawn to her, inside the pretty package is a spine of steel. I also agree that Farthing was particularly strong this season--he makes George both horrible and pathetic, Osborn must have been a hoot to play and the actor made the most of the loathsome toad.
  14. My feeling exactly about this storyline--that the character was miscast (and the casting is in general pretty strong, even the slight, almost fragile, Farthing is selling me on George) As for Whitworth the actor is having a field day with that part and he couldn't be any more loathsome, LOL. I also agree about George--his character veers between mustache twirling villain, and simply pathetic with his nose pressed at the window of the Mansion house with all of his betters inside.
  15. I really liked this episode, but the actor who is playing Armitage is bugging the merde out of me--he is a pretty boy with the emphasis on "boy," even though Demelza is the same age she has been married to a proper man for several years, would she really be tempted by this kid? I understand that Ross is ignoring her but still....
  16. This I don't get at all--the change in tone from Ross being loving to Ross being a complete asshole, I just wanted to hit him upside the head. E Tomlinson is a beautiful woman so not unrealistic that men would pursue her, but as commented on, the dude that her husband saved? it doesn't help that he is boy band pretty. Jack Farthing was having a damn good time mustache twirling as George, and the guy playing Morwenna's husband couldn't be more repulsive. But getting back to Ross, the stupidity and selfishness is hard to watch at times.
  17. I do hope that they don't bring The Master back in order to explore what 12 described as a "man crush" or whatever...yuck
  18. ugh...in general I like the actress, but her goo-goo eyes have got to go, lazy acting IMO. What I did like is how insane yet exquisitely painful an attraction like this can be (I'm sure that many a married person have gone through this "forbidden" attraction thing, resisting takes every ounce of your strength--yep been there before) I think that the show captured the intense longing and craziness of the situation, I would be interested in how they resolve it, I do hope that they get another season.
  19. You know what would have been really subversive? Casting a female doctor the same age as Capaldi (LOL--never would happen.) At any rate, I think that the strong female leader archetype on the show can be seen in the Lizard lady character (sorry I forget her name) strong and capable, I assume that is how this Doctor will play.
  20. So will the companion be a woman too? probably not, I will be curious to see who that might be--if it were I, I'd go with a teenager for the companion--if male this will solve any "sexual attraction" issues, and either a young male or female will be set up to be mentored by the Doctor. I like having the Doctor be a male, I honestly don't see a problem continuing with that tradition but I certainly will give JW a chance.
  21. When oh when will they get over the Dwight as prisoner storyline? I can only imagine how awful it must have been for a young woman like Morwella to have NO say in who she marries. They should have had Valentine have dark eyes but I guess that would have been too obvious?
  22. agreed BUT I personally have to remind myself that this is a "family" show meant, to begin with, to entertain children, death with its grim finality is perhaps not suitable? I guess that SM had to come up with some way to soften the blow. so why not bring in the cute girl that Bill had been attracted to to provide a "fairytale" ending? Genius catch-->love the analogy!
  23. I'm sure that next season will be a return of a beautiful young woman companion despite the fact that the fans loved Donna and we also loved Bill (Pearl is adorable btw, but you know what I mean) and Nardole
  24. I cried what can I say? I am a sucker for Whovian sentimentality. I hope that the next show runner notes how successful Bill and Nardole were as companions--no moony "love match" between the doctor and his hot young female companion, dare I hope for an equally interesting new companion/companions? I had to LOL when Missy and the Master were rubbed up together and he looks down and says "is it wrong to..." bwahaha.
