  1. I think Harris and Walz ran a fine campaign. I don't think any other candidates could have done measurably better. It's simply a fact: a majority of U.S. citizens support hateful policies and want an extreme right wing (fascist?) regime in charge. It's that simple. The majority has spoken. It's beyond sad and awful, but the majority has spoken.
  2. I don't think it has anything to do with encouragement. So many males think it's degrading to take a traditionally female job, so they don't even consider it. Doing a 'woman's job' is beneath them. And it's that way with things associated with women across the board. Who wants to 'throw like a girl'? Society is sending constant messages to boys growing up that they're more valuable than women. So of course they'd be humiliated doing 'women's work.' No one needs to dissuade them. They get the message loud and clear. So incredibly demoralized by yesterday's events. The Republican party in America today: men who loathe women, and the self-loathing women who love them.
  3. A local radio station has already switched to all Christmas music. They did this on Friday, so at least they waited until after Halloween. At least. Also heard an Xmas commercial on the radio today. Aside from the Balsam Hill spots, which I've seen a few times, no TV ads yet. I'll enjoy it while it lasts...
  4. 1/5. TH only, like last week. This is getting boring. I'm at 2/5 if 'that club in Cabaret' counts for Monday. Couldn't come up with the name.

I was thinking the same thing. Those idiots grabbed Betts as he was leaping, they could have taken his arm off. I'm surprised Betts is handling it so well, at least publicly. Who knows what he's saying privately. But it was assault, and it wouldn't be out of line for them to be charged. Not to mention the black eye given to NY sports fans in front of the whole country (and world). Nice going, morons.
  6. Jackwad - possibly the best Closer Look callback ever! Which is high praise!
  7. For those unaware, the TBD network has recently started airing SNL reruns. The show is on for a few hours in both the afternoon and evening. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to the episodes they pick, but they're even showing eps from the Dick Ebersol years, which I haven't seen in ages. Am really enjoying it!
  8. 1/5. TH only. I hate that song.
  9. For me, it's the close talker episode. I once worked with someone like that, and it was just like on the show! This guy would get right up in your face when talking. And if you backed up, he moved forward!
  10. I can't change the channel fast enough when that Haribo ad comes on. Beyond irritating. And it's on all.the.time. And I'm really sick of Shaq and Icy Hot. Isn't that kind of a niche item? I've never needed the stuff, but apparently I'm in the minority, because the ad's in virtually every commercial break.
  11. 2/5, unadorned by *.
  12. Caught the Mrs. George Devereaux episode last night, and noticed something: for all Blanche's self-centeredness, when she had a dream, half of it was about Dorothy. It's a funny episode, with Dorothy supplying most of the laughs, cavorting with Lyle and Sonny! Blanche's story about her no-longer-dead husband is more poignant than funny. Blanche may be egocentric, but her friends are always on her mind. That's the conclusion I drew, anyway!
  13. I was waiting for them to get ganged up on and get their asses kicked, strolling in there like that!
  14. 2/5 with a *.
  15. 1/5 😞 Wednesday only. UO: didn't get Tuesday, as I've never seen The Office, due to thinking Steve Carell is one of the most irritating and least funny people on the planet.

I remember many years ago, on The Tomorrow Show, Tom Snyder had on a bunch of baseball ex-wives, basically talking about what cheating bastards their husbands were. Pete Rose's ex told of a time when she went on a road trip with him. She almost never went with him when he went on the road, but this time she did. She said she was awakened in the wee hours, to see Pete next to the bed, getting dressed. She asked what he was doing, and half-asleep he said, "I'm going back to my room." He apparently did this out of habit! In his groggy state, he forgot he was with his wife. She said she knew he probably slept around when he was away from home, but to have it so brutally shoved in her face wasn't fun.

Wow, that letter from Reinsdorf is horrible. An insult to the fans; fans of the game, as well as Sox fans. So he says they're going to develop players they have currently on the roster, look at the trade market, and also develop some of their minor-leaguers. Shouldn't they be doing that anyway? Why is he crowing about it? That's what teams do during the off-season, it's not like he's committing to anything radical or special. I kept reading and waiting for him to say something meaningful about how he intended to address and follow up such a lousy season. Anything. But there's nothing but boilerplate nonsense. They are 'focused' on returning to 'a level of success', so there's that! I bet Sox fans are encouraged... Elsewhere, Braves lose! It all comes down to tomorrow for the Mets! OMG!
  18. The Lucy sketch killed me. What an idea: instead of a loony, madcap Lucy, a hard-drinking, tortured Lucy! Just the sight of her sprawled out hammered on the couch holding a glass, while Ricky was his usual peppy self, was hilarious! Jean Smart did a great job. And feeling under the weather, no less! Kenan as 'Mark Robinson' giving all the wrong answers in Pyramid was also a highlight!
  19. 3/5 with a *. A good midweek, book-ended by failure.
  20. UGH, 'I appreciate you.' It's like nails on a blackboard. Not just because it sounds cloying and somewhat insincere, but it's grammatically incorrect. What's being appreciated, exactly, just 'me' in general? You appreciate that I was born in the first place, or that I got up today, so that I'm able to be here to be appreciated by you? It needs more information, like, 'I appreciate you helping me,' or 'I appreciate you taking an interest.' Just 'I appreciate you' is an incomplete sentence, and is annoying. And is becoming popular, much to my dismay.

I hate the DH. It's basically a way for aging players who don't have the agility to play a position any longer to stick around for a few more seasons and earn a few more paychecks. Having pitchers in the line-up should be part of the strategy of the game. As a longtime NL fan, I'm still finding it unnerving to have a real offensive threat starting in the nine slot. And there are those pitchers who can really hit, which can further complicate things. It's weird because, at the lower levels of baseball, most pitchers are good hitters. In high school ball, the top starting pitchers are usually the best athletes on the team, and often bat clean-up. It also leads to games like Steven Matz making his MLB debut with the Mets in 2015. He not only got the win on the mound, but contributed at the plate by getting three hits and driving in four runs, setting a couple of records in the process. His family was there to see it, including his grandfather, who was going absolutely bananas in the stands. It was a memorable game and so much fun to watch. It will never happen again.
  22. 2/5, both movie questions.
  23. The Day Drinking with Kevin Hart was the first time I ever bailed on that segment, which is normally highly entertaining. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, since Mr. Hart's charms are largely lost on me, but I couldn't get through it. It just wasn't funny. And there seemed to be a shortage of drinking, compared to the copious amounts of alcohol that usually flow in this segment. There was a lot more talk than tipping, at least in the part I saw. And what was that whole toilet training thing all about? Hart seemed to be implying that it meant that 'going' in his underwear was ok. He basically said this a couple of times, before Seth was like, "You never go in your underwear!" Like Hart needed to be told this? It was just weird. But from now on, whenever I see KH in a commercial (which is often), I'm going to be thinking, 'He's 'going' right now!!'
  24. In those pictures of Heidi and her father dancing, is anyone else creeped out by the father/daughter dance, 'I loved her first'? Given how prevalent sexual abuse appears to be in this cult, it seems inappropriate and icky to me. 'I loved her first.' Ewwww.
