This reminds me of when my grandmother and her friend were staying at the hospital with my sick grandfather. They played cards to pass the time. The friend would've been around 70 at the time and this was 30 years ago.

When I was a teenager, I was diagnosed with a condition that doesn't allow me to carry a child. From personal experience, I know infertility can have negative effects mentally. I can't imagine a woman who is in a religion that is all about babies going through it.

Around here in Eastern NC, there used to be something called "pounding the preacher." The congregation would give the new preacher a pound of nonpersishable food.
