  1. All these "10 minutes to..." are so tacky. Like if you sit through these people, you can see a REAL star.
  2. So tired of the same people winning over and over, even if I like them.
  3. Never saw Normal Heart, but I honestly think the Sherlock guys won based on the strength of three seasons of work. Which is maybe an argument against the weird way shows are put into different categories, to be fair.
  4. Crazy excited for Martin Freeman's win, but disappointed he didn't make it.
  5. I'm prepared to go with it. I'm fairly certain random college engineers don't have access to the Mars Rover, scientists don't get to take their three best friends along on expensive research trips to the North Pole, and neurobiologists don't keep smoking monkeys in their apartments. So I don't expect Penny's job to be at all realistic!
  6. Can you give some details on this? I haven't heard of this before, and I'd love to have some non-pharmaceutical help with water retention. All my numbers (blood pressure, etc.) are good, but I have trouble with swelling in my feet and ankles. I know if I bring it up to my doctor, she'll prescribe me something, but I hate taking meds. :-(
  7. Hey, all, can we move the cell phone conversation over to the Small Talk topic? Unless it's a cell phone commercial, of course.
  8. I dislike Mary, but it has very little to do with her rivalry with Edith. I just find her (Mary) to be overly cold, and at this point quite boring because her story has been "who will she marry"/"must save Downton" for four seasons. The propping doesn't help, even though I try to separate my feelings about the character from the way the character is written. Every time some character points out that Mary is the most beautiful/clever/eligible widow in all the land I just RME. Matthew made Mary relatable. I didn't really care about her (or her sisters) in season one, to be honest. I just wanted M/M because Matthew wanted her, and I wanted him to be happy. Without him, she's just bouncing back and forth between newbies that I care even less about than her. We all know she'll get whoever she finally decides on, and we know any obstacles that arise in the way of her happiness will magically fall away. The only lasting misfortune she's had is Matthew's death, which was inevitable because of DS leaving. In contrast - I don't like to compare, but it IS that topic - Edith's story has made me care about her, even though I didn't like her in the beginning. She's seen a lot of growth (not all of it positive), but she HAS changed, and her storyline has always been interesting. She makes mistakes, but she pays for them, which makes her easier for me to root for. Plus, LC plays Edith with such a lovely vulnerability. Even when she's being horrible (nasty to her sister or coming on to a married guy) I can see the layers of emotion beneath the surface. I continue to be astonished that she hasn't seen more recognition for this role.
  9. Hey, all, I just wanted to let you know that someone just started a weight loss topic in the Food forum, if you want to find/share recipes and food ideas. It's not BL-specific, of course.
  10. Shannon L., this is a great topic! I will definitely join you, and I'll add a note in the Biggest Loser forum as well. I know they had a "weight loss" topic in there at TWoP. Seventy-five pounds! That's an amazing accomplishment.
  11. Provel looks weird, but one of the benefits is that it "bites" off, instead of pulling all the toppings off with the cheese, like can happen with mozzarella. So I imagine that texture difference is what makes it not melt like some other cheeses. Of course, I love taco and cheeseburger pizza, which both use cheddar, so I'm obviously not a "pizza cheese must be mozzarella" person. *sidenote: the ooey gooey butter cake is amazing.*
  12. treeofdreams (or anyone), feel free to request a forum for either of those shows in the New Show Forum Request area. You can find guidelines on how to complete your requests here. We're using this Masterpiece forum as a kind of catch-all for the various shows, some of which don't garner much discussion. However, we are completely open to creating new forums for any of the individual shows, if someone wants to request them. If a new forum is created, I'll lock this topic and move any posts from here. So feel free to go ahead and post here in the interim.
  13. A local news anchor I worked with once infamously read the name of the late pope John Paul II (the second) as "John Paul Ill". We hazed her unmercifully. Two weeks later, hoping to avoid the same mistake, she read the name of North Korea's leader as "Kim Jung the second". Nope, that's not right either. If she had stuck with one pronunciation, she would have been correct 50% of the time. Lol In her defense, TelePrompTers display in all caps, which I think added to her confusion. However, anyone calling herself a "journalist" should know the pronunciations of world leaders' names!
  14. This, so much. The fact that Sharon never gets to call him on this - and therefore I'm assuming we're supposed to have forgotten it - is the single most galling thing about this storyline.
  15. Eh, I don't think it's such a big thing. It's not saying they have to call back immediately. It just means they have to call their parents back first before they use their phone for anything else. If it's not safe for them to call their parents, they shouldn't be using the phone for anything else anyway. That said, I probably wouldn't use it. If a had a teenager who had a problem returning calls on a phone I paid for, they would quickly no longer have a phone I paid for. If they want to waste their money on their own phone, that's their money. Within reason, of course. Also, I should add the caveat that I pretty much never use a phone as a phone - I prefer to text - so if I'm actually calling, it's urgent, and my family knows this.
  16. Aw, I love STL pizza - even Imo's - but it's different, for sure. Have you tried Pi's? They don't use provel, and they have deep dish crust in addition to thin. They do some really interesting ingredients, and have a great wine, beer, and spirits list. A little pricey for STL, but worth it if you want more than just your typical pizza.
  17. Guys, this is getting really off-topic. To discuss prior seasons, please use that thread, and leave this one for discussing spoilers.
  18. I RME at that one, too. The kid wan't supposed to walk, and instead he's playing All-State levels of baseball. Can't that be enough? Does he have to have an average a pro would envy? Guh. Thanks for this! I could have sworn she said "Really?" which would make NO sense. I thought I had missed a plot line and Grace also had some kind of memory loss. lol
  19. I want Stabby to happen so badly now.
  20. Agreed. Nikki apparently suppressed the memory of an entire pregnancy and birth. A second peanut in the same shell isn't much in comparison.
  21. I love Culver's. Definitely not diet food, but so, so, tasty. Fried Wisconsin cheese curds. Yum!
  22. Eh, I think it could be explained. Sharon was a teenager, poor, probably held off telling her mom as long as she could. She likely got sub-par (if any) pre-natal care, so it's possible she never had an ultrasound. As for the birth, did we ever get details? Maybe she was in medical distress or something. And again, young and naive, I doubt she spent much time reading "What to Expect..." books.
  23. I adjusted the title to be more general to reflect that it's about all foreign commercials. Let me know if you have a clever subtitle, and I'll edit it in.
