If we're running low on the fancy stuff, I'll take a Jack and Coke, please. -
When we were kids, my mom made pancakes every Sunday morning (my dad made the two of them sausage/bacon and eggs every other morning, and we kids did cereal). But somewhere about ten years ago she decided pancakes are "too sweet" for breakfast, so now she makes them for supper. lol

Interesting article from Billboard.com: Does Country Music Need an Alcohol Intervention? I say yes, and have been saying it for some time. It isn't even so much the drinking songs - country has always had drinking songs - but the party songs. It's just so tiresome. Come up with something new! And while we're at it, can we cut down on the number of songs about some girl/young woman's body and the clothing she wears? If I had a dollar for every song I hear on the radio by a middle aged man singing about drinking, partying, and some sexy young thing in cutoffs, I'd be a millionaire. There's just something especially squick to me about a man of a certain age and station in life singing those kinds of songs. (Keith Urban, I'm looking at you.) Why do 85% of the songs on country radio sound like a teenage boy's fantasy? That said, I actually like "Drunk on a Plane". I love Dierks Bentley's voice, and he gives it a little something that keeps it from being a straight-up party song, besides the slightly darker set up of the guy being left at the altar. But when I first listened to his album, Riser (highly rec, btw), I hoped they wouldn't release "DOAP" as a single. I knew they would, though, and I knew it would be a big hit. Which makes me disappointed, because the other "drinking" song on the album, "Bourbon in Kentucky", which was actually released as the first single, went basically nowhere on the charts. Like, they delayed the album and reworked some stuff nowhere. And it is a thousand times the song "DOAP" is. I like the old-style "drinking" songs - Gary Allan and Lee Ann Womack are two of my favorites - songs that have meaning and power and emotion, songs that are about pain and loss, where the drinking comes from that. Not songs about frat boy partying.

A recent picture of Blake and Usher at the 15th anniversary celebration of Usher's foundation in Atlanta. http://i.imgur.com/9HoINut.jpg I forget sometimes what a HUGE man Blake is.

Vacation rentals are the best, for all the reasons @Sake614 noted. No hotel noise, (generally) a lot more space and freedom, a kitchen so you can save on food expenses, not to mention being able to relax at "home" for a meal or two. Plus, the ones I've stayed in have typically been in residential neighborhoods, so you get a lot more of a local "feel" for where you're visiting. And they're often significantly cheaper than a hotel, even though you get more space, more amenities, better and cheaper/free parking. How do you find your rentals? I really like vrbo.com, but I'm always on the lookout for something new.

I've noticed a huge disparity myself, but it's never seemed to affect anything I bake. I do try to use all one set or another in one recipe, so things are at least proportionate. eta - a huge disparity with measuring spoons in general. I've never used that particular type/brand. :)
-
I've got probably three or four sets of measuring spoons, and I just took them all off their little rings and put them handle-side-down in a shot glass on the counter. Why the heck do they put them on a ring? It makes them so cumbersome, plus you'd have to wash the whole set every time you use one. Ridic.

Ha! Just clarifying that I'm eating dinner at noon, and I'm not on the other side of the world where it's already evening. Oooh, I love breakfast food, too, although I hardly ever eat it in the morning. No time for much beyond cereal. But I love an omelet or quiche for a tasty light supper.
-
I love my silicone spoonulas. They are great multi-taskers and cut down on the number of implements I have to wash. I use them like a spatula with my mixer, and then I use them like a spoon to ladle the batter into pans or muffin tins. Plus, since they hold up to heat, I can use them on the stovetop, even for extreme heat such as is involved in candy making.

In my (farm) family, dinner is what you eat at midday, and supper is what you eat in the evenings. ;) The best part of telecommuting is getting to go to my mama's sometimes for dinner. Today was spare ribs, new red potatoes, fresh sweet corn, and boiled cabbage. Plus some tomato slices for color. Everything except the iced tea, salt, and pepper were grown right there on their farm. Now I need a nap. lol

I might have to try that one! I'm a gardener, and I always like to grow new things, but then I never know what to do with them. Tomatillos, anyone? And I can always use new ideas for using surplus produce. A person can only eat so much zucchini bread! (And salsa verde. The aforementioned tomatillos simply overran me last year.)

Makes me think of The Sign of Three. So weddings, Sherlock, dancing, double lives, assassins? Hm, @BizBuzz used to have a Sherlock avatar. She's the one who brought it up, but maybe she's playing a con? -

He was a villain, but a villain with no powers. Perhaps a sacrificial lamb to distract us? I'm most suspicious of @egavasc, however. -
I love anything from the Cook's Country/America's Test Kitchen people. I just think the science they introduce is so interesting. Also, gadgets. For a great basic, all around cookbook, you can't beat Better Homes and Gardens (the plaid ring-bound one). It's the closest thing I've found to my mom's ancient Betty Crocker. BC has gone to more recipes that use prepared foods, ethnic ingredients, etc., which can be hard to find at my local grocery store. BH&G is more old-fashioned, from-scratch cooking, which is more my thing. Plus, they have tons of step-by-step pictures and general techniques.

I love to bake! There's something so mathematical about it. I don't do it as much as I'd like because it takes time, and with just me at my place, a lot of recipes are just too much food to use. Angel food cakes and breads are my specialties. And I'll admit I'm one of those people who look down my nose at mixes and dough hooks - it's just not for me! IMO kneading and punching down are the fun parts, something about aggression. Lol

That was me. I loved them so much. And I agree about RD. One of the episodes I remember best is when they discovered their baby had some genetic disorder. They saw a 3D rendering of her future image and B'Elanna was devestated to see that her daughter would have Klingon features. I thought that was so powerful.

I use the last line of this one all the time... Kramer: Hey, Jerry, rub some lotion on my back. Jerry: Who are you, Mrs. Robinson? Kramer: C’mon, and I’ll rub some on you. Jerry: That’s not sweetening the deal.

Yay! I'm so relieved. I was feeling awful for David Lynching @The Crazed Spruce, but he totally deserved it. :-) Margarita, please. -

I thought the same thing about the skirt. I guess I was just hoping it was Tom because it looks like such a happy scene, and he deserves some happy. -

Hey now! Lol I didn't really see any clues in this story, but I don't watch these two shows, so I might not. It DOES seem like a lot of states have been mentioned by name. Is that odd, or does it mean anything to anyone? -

Is that Tom on the rope swing? Or a character from a different show?
