Health and Wellness Chit-Chat: Your Primary Care Topic
nokat replied to JTMacc99's topic in Health & Wellness
I've been getting out and walking as my tibia and knee are (mostly) healed. The sidewalks around here are rough with poorly done patches so barely suitable for anyone with mobility issues. I've thought about complaining to the city. The sidewalks are of course better if you walk around businesses but I don't find that relaxing and nearer me are lots of slopes. I like the up and down as it strengthens my legs (minds out of the gutter :P ) and improves my balance. The downside is that I'm usually really sore the next day and just do stretching and some seated exercises. The day after that though I'm always stronger with less pain. My physical therapist had warned me that pain can make you hesitant to push yourself the next time, and to take pain medicine if needed (especially at night so I can sleep). -

That is something that would bother me too. I am lucky that I really like both my dentist and hygienist. I would forgive the cold behavior if the work was excellent. -
Why Grammar Matters: A Place To Discuss Matters Of Grammar

I apologize if this was mentioned previously, but the mispronunciation of mischievous is so irritating. Mischievious? How did that start? I hear it spoken this way frequently. -
I wouldn't look for it either, but I'd try it. The same with ham & pineapple, I wouldn't order it for myself, but I'll eat a slice as I don't hate it.
-
I'd be happy with one slice, but that's for the best for me. Darn covid and menopause pounds.

Hey, no adding rules! Laughing but I would prefer that too.

Excellent point. If it included custom made footwear I'm in. Free house cleaning but the cheese one is tempting. I don't need a new phone every year, but the latest G phone that is not an iphone would be nice. I found 5G very useful while I was stuck in the hospital. Cell service can be expensive but also can let you dump cable if you just like streaming.

From the look of the rooms (especially the one that looked like a murder scene) I have a feeling they were blowing through towels and toilet paper and then running out faster than non-badgers most people.

I agree about getting your nutrients from food if you can, but if you have allergies and/or IBS (as I do) you don't necessarily absorb all you need, even with a mostly healthful diet. I had my blood tested a couple times a day when I was in the hospital. I was super low on potassium, magnesium and folate. I had to drink those nasty potassium drinks and had magnesium supplemented through my IV. I had anemia from low folate so had to take that supplement too. I started feeling a lot better and energetic after getting those in balance, so I now take a multi-vitamin plus use a magnesium oil spray (I read that it doesn't absorb as well through the stomach, but does so on the skin). I'm thinking of just doing the folic acid tablets and magnesium spray along with my D3 gummies (that I was already taking). I get plenty of calcium from food and I read that it can be dangerous if you take too much in tablet form. I don't need C because I eat plenty of fruit. I thought I was getting enough potassium from food but obviously not. I worry about getting too much of some nutrients from supplements which is not good either, so I'm wary of taking the multi-vitamin too often. I take it once every second or third day for now.

I assume that contributes to them. I'm north of sixty and do have the wrinkles on my upper lip but they are only really noticeable if I purse my lips. I smoked in my twenties but was never a heavy smoker and quit long ago. I also use sunscreen and a hat while in the sun.

My sister is a DD but not with that band size. She's about 5'4".
-
I met an 80-yr-old smoker/vaper. Between smoking and the California sun, she had quite the collection of wrinkles.

Pet Peeves: Aka Things That Make You Go "Gah!"

My peeve: being the first person to walk in the morning so I have to break all of the webs. Shivers. The sidewalks are lined with flowering bushes and dwarf trees. Bees are wonderful. We need bees. But I get nervous walking a few inches away from all of the bees. The dwarf trees hang low over the sidewalk. I have to duck sometimes so the bees (and spiders) are right there. The fun thing about morning walks is if it's sunny all of the little lizards (Common Side-Blotched Lizard) sun themselves on the sidewalk. Then they dart away as soon as I walk up. Cute little things. -

True. I was just more annoyed on the off, on, off, on. It messes with my electronics. They'd likely not last long enough until the next power outage. -

I thought it was a given that when correcting someone on grammar you will frequently make a mistake yourself. So I'll read my own post and even after I thought I'd proofread I'll still find mistakes. That's my we let others proofread for us. ;) -
I get a free local paper but I don't subscribe to any. I used to get some magazines from the UK about photography and 3D modeling. The exchange rate made them a bit pricey and they were moving to digital only when I dropped subscriptions.

Here's a peeve about my electric service. The power goes out during the day and my first thought is "did I pay the electricity bill?" At night I can check for streetlights and sigh in relief. So anyway the power has been on and off several times so far. Fine, I use my phone to look up outages. Then I get emails after the power is back on telling me the power was out, then one telling me it's back on. Really useful, thanks. I had figured that out on my own. 😐 Edit: To be fair, I would like to know how long the power was out if I were away from home. -

(Sorry, couldn't help myself.) I corrected it in my head. If you're in a grammar thread it's open season! -
Stress, Depression, Anxiety and other Mental Health-related things

I could see them getting a bit irritated, but that does not invalidate your fears. They are based in truth but living your life in constant fear is debilitating. I had to stay at a skilled nursing facility for rehab after my tibia fracture. I was sure I was going to get very sick as there were so many people with horrible coughs, and one person there tested positive for covid. I was washing my hands frequently and using sanitizer but at some point your hands will get raw. Well, I didn't get sick there or for several days after. It was after seeing my doctor that I caught a cold and had a bad cough for almost two weeks. I was not short of breath or feverish so I didn't worry. Still sucked though. -
We can't just pretend this didn't exist. Or there is enough positive in there that it shows how we shouldn't portray characters, if that makes sense.

It would be one less thing to worry about. I still wear a mask but few people still do. -

Yes to this^. Anyone with chronic pain or a chronic health issue can get frustrated and depressed. Get rid of the issue and surprise, our mindset improves! I hope you can get relief, and you may have to decide if you can face surgery if it improves the quality of your life. What you are going through has to be miserable. -

The jury is still out on that one. 😄 Forums are getting added or renamed or put up in a subcategory. It's getting more confusing than going to Trader Joe's before a holiday.
