  1. I smirked at that part too....talk about a legit comeback from a kid to his dad LOL I really liked this, I agree it got a little cliched at the end, but it worked....I thought the parents did the best they could and were great parents, despite having the baby which is a questionable decision, I wondered if they decided to have one to help heal the wound
  2. I think she got too big too fast JLAW is talented...there's no denying that...but I think she lacks guidance....and dropping out school in 8th grade like she did didn't help....I think she gets very under the spell in a way of certain people in Hollywood, and will do whatever movie they pitch to her...regardless of whether or not its good...David O Russell, Francis Lawrence to name of a few I am a fan of hers, but if she continues to pick bad material I don't know how much longer I will be one....her interviews/persona are starting to get old and though i say i think she needs a mentor/someone to give her guidance....her personality strikes me as someone who would not take it well, unless i'm itching to go to the movies soon I'll wait for dvd for this one
  3. So i read an online review from a blogger that said this was basically soft core porn...is that true? that this movie was basically made for the men???? If that's true than i'm passing...I have no problem with graphic sex scenes or violence, but I'm not going to pay money for a movie that has gratuitous sex scenes...the sex scenes has to have some substance/purpose! I'm not paying for 50 shades here! I also heard there was full frontal male nudity-how is this not NC 17? I'm assuming it must have happened for a split second lol Man what is going on with JLAW? First mother! now this? But to be honest, she hasn't been picking good material....besides the franchise movies she does, she was in Joy (which was just so so i thought), Passengers (nuff said), Serena (which i haven't seen but i heard was nothing special), and of course roles she did do well in (American Hustle, Silver Linings Playbook)...other than those movies listed, the only other things she's been in is Hunger Games and Xmen...so she really hasn't been in that many movies besides her breakout role in Winter's Bone (to this day her best work in my opinion) I think she needs to go back to Indies! Here's hoping Hollywood's next possible star doesn't go down her path (Timothee Chalamet)
  4. It has limited appeal because the studio decided to release this to Netflix in 2 weeks! I guess had alex garland changed the ending like the studio had asked it wouldn’t be in this mess...
  5. I get it, I just don’t agree...it’s the same thing with Natalie Portman, she got an Oscar for black swan, a performance I was not that wowed by (and I’m a huge fan) I get her body was put through hell but I’d almost put that more on Darren Aronofsky....dude is a trip to work for.....she should have won an Oscar for Jackie but instead that somehow went to Emma Stone (again why?) i read an article that jake g has yet to figure this game out or that he just still refuses to do it lol upon further reflection, I’ve decided to give Armie Hammer more credit for his work in this, I mean I don’t think he should have been nominated for an Oscar (nor should have m.stulhberg) but he was a good Oliver...after reading the book I realized he did do a good job portraying the character..and like I said before I have no problem with him looking 35 as opposed to 24, hell if the character had been 35 I still would have loved every bit of this movie, it’s that good
  6. Since when did the Oscar become it’s time for your due, not for this particular performance....I mean yeah some people felt they did it with Leo (though I personally felt he deserved the Oscar most for what’s eating Gilbert grape) and he was very good in the revenant, but I grew tired of the “it’s his time now thing” because they are doing the same thing with oldman, I just feel it should be about the performance....not whether or not “it’s ones time” i hope we see TC in other excellent roles in the future... I wasn’t wowed by the lady bird performance but I just wasn’t wowed by that movie period....he speaks well, and seems to know what type of movies he wants to do in the future so hopefully he’ll get nominated again
  7. While it was strange the director didn’t bother to read books 2 or 3 before moving right along with this movie, you can’t blame him about getting the ethnicities wrong. Apparently the first book doesn’t even give these characters names let alone mention races....again dumb on his part not to bother finishing the trilogy but from what I hear he pretty much killed the trilogy with this movie anyway. And the movie came in 4th....not too bad
  8. yet armie hammer's name is listed first in the credits...i mean i get why...but still I really wish T.C. could pull off an upset and win best oscar...not gonna happen i know, but it be nice....because he did SO GOOD, and while the academy loves actors who "transform" themselves....he did too...he learned to speak italian, he learned to play the piano and the guitar....i mean, if Emma Stone can win an oscar for la la land....I think this performance deserves it more...at least people are saying he is the only person who can compete with Gary Oldman at this point
  9. 1. I think the copy Kane just walked out? 2. You talking about the weird tattoo symbol thing on her arm? I think they made a point of showing us that to show that she didn't have that before, that's why i'm confused as to whether or not the Lena at the end was the real Lena or a copy Lena because of that tattoo looking thing that was on her arm 3. I personally think copy Kane got sick because the alien organism couldn't adapt outside of the shimmer, but for some reason after the shimmer was destroyed and came down could, again my guess is because it was constantly adapting and by merging it's cells with Lena's it got stronger perhaps 4. I personally think it was an alien copy, but it could have been an changed version of her...for one she didn't answer when copy Kane asked her and second, that weird tattoo thing on her arm I really enjoyed this movie, it's definitely not for everyone, but I don't get the whole "it was too intellectual for general audiences" thing....a lot of sci fi movies can be confusing and to me this was no more confusing than arrival...I was actually expecting this movie to be weirder than it was and i thought it offered enough closure, at least for me it did and that scene on the video ( that all 5 of them watched) and then what they saw at the bottom of the pool after...I don't think i'll ever be able to get that scene out of my head :| that was all levels of creepiness I think what i found very disturbing about this movie was, it wasn't that much out of the realm of possibility....as far as alien movies go....similar to what the director did with ex-machina
  10. Ok so I saw this today and like lady bird was not wowed by this....I think lady bird is a better movie! I mean I didn’t dislike it, but I don’t get all the critic love and while I love DDL just as much as the next person, to me this was not his best work.....his facial expressions were great though. i was shocked by the twist and then more shocked by the end though upon further reflection it made a lot of sense.....
  11. I’m so in agreement with the first paragraph! Visually this movie looks stunning but my god, the main character makes Hayden Christensen look good! He looks nothing remotely like Harrison Ford, the lines sounded awful, I’m scared lol. here’s to hoping this is a rouse and it turns out to be good like rouge one was, but the summer release makes me go hmmmm But in regards to your second paragraph, I too have watched (and own) every single episode of game of thrones and Emilia Clarke I do think is in the top 10 of actors and actresses combined, I’m behind her getting the Emmy noms more than kit Harrington but I agree that NCW should be nominated as well. the one who looks same old same old is woody!
  12. Not his true love? I know some might not be interested in reading the novel of this movie, but it’s a short read and one definitely knows elio’s feelings towards Oliver more than this movie since the entire thing is from elio’s point of view. I agree about Oliver though, but typical especially during that time period.
  13. I had heard about the slowness factor and while I don’t mind that, I did think the movie could have a used a *tad* more battle scenes. But boy was this movie depressing. It’s interesting how even today some people still hold the same exact feelings about “their land” and what the government can and can’t tell them to do. Loved the the cinematography in this.
  14. In the movie Elio’s mom made a comment during that scene that it happened all the time, but in the book, during that scene Elio and Oliver were playing footsies under the table then he got the nosebleed, I actually think it was supposed to be the same scene...I wonder if it got edited out. Because in the book Oliver says the same line after asking if the nosebleed happened because of him. While I do think the two leads have good chemistry I can see some would think otherwise, like I said upthread I really feel Timothee Chalamet carried Armie Hammer at times during the movie. I may may have to watch this Diary of a teenage girl....sounds interesting.....but while on the subject of stories about older men/younger girls in movies, the movie the Lover was not mentioned....would love to hear people’s opinion on that one if they remember that movie and the controversy of it in the states....personally I love the movie, one of my all time favs like this one now is
  15. Runningwild, can you please explain what Oliver did to Elio that was perverted? I’m seriously trying to understand your logic here. I think we’ve all heard about legitimate abuse cases involving minors, but this fictional story by no means can seriously be compared to that.
  16. Fair enough-and I don’t mean to sound like a jerk when i ask this but, you did know before seeing the movie what it was about right? Because most of the criticism I heard was from people who formed opinions without actually seeing the movie. To me the trailer pretty much laid out what this movie was about.
  17. Armie Hammer said in an interview that Elio was not a child and looked at him as an adult. I’m not totally in agreement with that, Elio at times acted very much the teenager, but, Elio I thought was definitely more mature than most kids his age, I think being in such an intense relationship like that not all teens could handle, obviously his parents believed not only he could handle it, but that it was good for him. So to me by no means was this satutory rape, Elio was the one who was the aggressor, he’s the one who kept going in for more, grabbing Oliver’s privates, he knew what he wanted. And the the age difference is supposed to be 17 and 24.....I think people just can’t get past hammers older looks?
  18. And it might surprise you I’m in agreement that the language was unnecessary, just saying I GET why it was used...and it wasn’t overly used which was why I was semi ok with it...semi three billboards is not a perfect movie, but I don’t think it deserves the backlash it is getting, I think call me by your name deserves to win best picture but I’ve accepted the fact this movie is gonna sweep ...can’t wait to see what the haters say about that
  19. Ok, so this movie came to my area on Jan 19...I've seen it twice LOL I LOVED LOVED LOVED this movie...omg it is so so so good......i get why it was so hyped up when it came out, was it Sundance Jan 2017? Unfortunately though, i think it has lost major steam because it came out so long ago....I think it's a travesty the director didn't get an oscar nom for best director nor did it get a cinematography nom.....what gives? At this point i think it MIGHT get best adapted screenplay. If T.Chalamet got best actor it be the biggest upset, but, it be so deserving if he did....he was excellent in this.....I saw him in Lady Bird and thought he was just ok....it's like he's a completely different actor in this....guess it just shows you give someone excellent material and their wings can really fly.....to me he carried Armie Hammer....who is so wooden and stiff....i mean, this is the probably the best performance by Hammer, but i still see him as one dimensional...not surprised by the lack of the oscar nom see, i thought that's what made the movie so great....so much was unsaid, but it was all there from the beginning....the look on T.Chalamet's face....to me he owned this movie....that's why i was so impressed with him....the flirting at the piano with the bach sence, the constant pushing him away/pulling him back....he was acting like a typical teen......jealousy in high gear......his emotions were all over the place because he had those crazy feelings for him...to me words weren't needed..... yeah, hammer didn't look 24 but to me he also looks older than 31 so......but i have seen some complaints about the creepiness factor of the story....totally disagree.....the character of elio overall i thought was very mature....but still a teen.....i didn't see anything creepy about what was going on....unfortunately I think teens today overall might be slightly more immature? I don't know.....I don't know if one would see this kind of thing happen as much today....but back then.....totally could see it......
  20. while i really liked this movie, I can agree with this....the ex husband was a first class A hole I see the point but we see this all the time in movies.....Quentin Tarantino anyone? and to me it KINDA fit the story given what was going on....I think to criticize the movie just for the offensive language is unfair given how SO MANY movies have offensive language Again i disagree, Rockwell might not have gotten arrested but he got fired, even after he sort of redeemed himself to the police department they didn't bring him back.....and his firing was justified....i don't think anyone would disagree with that...and i think what is making this movie so popular and why it is winning so many awards is because these things are true to life....some people do terrible things with no consequences i thought this was one of the best movies that came out this year....while I think it might be monopolizing the awards like la la land did, i get why the critics are liking it....so much of it to me reflected on real life....and...i think McDormand deserved the oscar more than ronan.....i just wasn't that wowed by Lady Bird.....but......the movie I personally would like to see get best movie would be either shape of water or call me by your name(this movie needs to win more awards!)...though at this point i think this movie will get it, and i'm okay with that :)
  21. I thought this movie showed a good piece of history, had no idea England was losing that badly..... I'm assuming Gary Oldman will win the oscar for this...and while it is deserved, overall i thought the movie was good, but not great....I was kind of hoping for more battle scenes thought i know the movie is supposed to be about churchill, not the war, but i thought the trailers made the movie look slightly deceiving regarding that

    I, Tonya (2017)

saw this about a month ago....as someone who was a teenager when all this went down and remembered every second of it to this day, i really appreciated this movie! I was never a harding fan, but i soooo disliked nancy kerrigan by the time the olympics rolled around i was glad she lost gold! harding made valid points about her regarding her character but-harding still deserved punishment for what she did....it's too bad because she was talented and i think in today's scoring, she'd do a lot better a major problem i had with her in this movie and i had with her in the past, she never takes responsibility for anything...nothings ever her fault janney deserves that oscar though....i'm crossing my fingers she gets it*****
  23. hmmm i thought social worker but i don't remember her really being dressed the way one would think a social worker would...wasn't she in scrubs? I almost wonder if she was a nurse....i think if she had a psychologist they wouldn't have been struggling as much financially.....
  24. This is how I felt.....this movie is decent...but not oscar worthy at all imo....not even streep's performance though i will say hers was better than tom hanks...he was just ok watching this movie though made me feel a bit of sadness to see the fate of newspapers...how now pretty much all news has been regulated to online and social media (thumbs down)
  25. I saw this today...I really enjoyed it.....it was typical for Del Toro but I think this was my favorite of all of his movies I think it's worthy of all the hype and Michael Shannon...man that guy can act....be nice to see him pull off a surprise best supporting acting nom though Richard Jenkins is getting most of the nominations in that category I will say though...
