Guilty Pleasures: Songs You're Ashamed Of Having On Your MP3 Player
rubaco replied to PrincessEnnui's topic in Music
Well this was a fun thread to read. Nice to see some other folks who fondly remember 1970s music. I'll contribute a few: Several Partridge Family songs "Shannon" by Henry Gross (you know, the song about the dead dog?) "Convoy" by C.W. McCall (lots of novelty songs back in the '70s) "Everybody's Free to Wear Sunscreen" by Baz Luhrmann …and count me as another who has "MacArthur Park" by Richard Harris. Brilliant song. -
I also was expecting a second FJ, but then I realized if they did it that way, there was a good chance it would end in another tie. I didn't see the tournament either, just last night's game, and was pulling for Alan all the way. He seemed awfully nice, and I loved when he asked Alex, "What did you and Ken talk about for all those episodes?" Ha ha! Edited: I wrote Jeff when I meant Alan. The young man in the middle.

Thanks, GaryE. I agree with most of that list, but I actually really like "Frasier's Curse."

Why Grammar Matters: A Place To Discuss Matters Of Grammar
rubaco replied to candall's topic in Everything Else
Not a grammar issue, but my current pet peeve is the extreme overuse (especially by athletes) of "It is what it is." Well no shit. Cliff Lee, I am looking at you. -
Why would you not say "choir" for "Glee?" That said, at least they got it from "smile" (I would not have!).

I'm doing a rewatch of Scrubs, and Neil Flynn will always be the Janitor to me. I'm aware he's had zillions of roles (including a bit part in The Fugitive, which they make fun of in an ep of Scrubs), and of course I know he's the dad on The Middle now, but the Janitor was such a weird and fascinating character, that's all he'll ever be in my mind.

Ken Levine on the famous Cheers episode where Cliff played Jeopardy: http://kenlevine.blogspot.com/2014/07/inside-story-on-cheers-jeopardy-episode.html

Even though I hesitate to share… I voted for Sophia. No, I am not in my 80s, but I'm hoping to get there someday! I like to make up stories, I can be sarcastic, I love Italian food, and the biggest similarity: I have no edit button. I just say whatever I want to. I also have an irrational love of balloons. "Hey. Where's my balloon?"

What I have learned from Hollywood Game Night: celebs are all about the gossip, apparently. If I were playing the final round with a friend and Russell Crowe came up, the furthest thing from my mind would be "slept with Meg Ryan." It'd be a list of his films, starting with Gladiator. Sheesh. I wonder what would happen if somebody, in a clue-giving panic, said something slanderous. Well, I'm sure it would never make it to air. That said, I do love Scott. He was the only thing about this ep that I enjoyed.

Jeopardy was not on tonight in my market due to extended network news. Did anyone here get the episode tonight? New champ or not?

Syndication Edits: "I am devastated, just devastated!"
rubaco replied to Bastet's topic in The Golden Girls
Right about now, I would pay money to deal with Hallmark's edits… because they've been showing Christmas movies for the past week instead of the Girls (at least during the times I usually watch). WTF?? They take their commitment to being the "official holiday channel" way too seriously. Sorry, had to vent, I now return you to your regularly scheduled thread. -
I agree with those who said they would've gone with Matthew Morrison rather than Cho. I winced when she was chosen. Maybe I'm easily amused but I really got a kick out of this episode. It cracked me up when they were trying to build Sean Hayes in the box game and kept screwing up. Then I laughed hard again during the "doo doo" game. It's totally true that Scott Wolf never seems to age or change. Holy cow.

No, they just sound like they could be. I thought it was funny.

Favourite WKRP Moments: Watch For Falling Turkeys
rubaco replied to The Crazed Spruce's topic in WKRP In Cincinnati [V]
Bailey, speaking to someone on the phone: "How can we announce that we're off the air when we're off the air?" -
Thanks to everyone for the recs! Yeah, I watch and love Orphan Black, and give a big thumbs-up to that recommendation. Probably my favorite current show.

OK, maybe there's some hidden gem out there that I've never heard of. Might as well ask. I'd love to find a show like The X-Files, not so much the sci-fi aspect, but rather the spooky/weird aspect. Something that gives you chills. No need to pitch the following shows because I've already seen them: Fringe, Haven (on Syfy), Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Torchwood. And I am old enough to have seen Kolchak when it originally aired. Anyone? Thanks in advance.

Never got a fair shot: Miracles, starring Skeet Ulrich, was sooo good. It kept getting pre-empted, so no wonder it never found a big enough audience to satisfy ABC! At least we got a DVD release, however, of all the produced episodes. Died before its time: The Nine, another ABC show (this one starring Tim Daly). I know the remaining eps aired somewhere (DirecTV, maybe) but I never got to see them, so I'm still bitter.

F is for Florida. Rose thought the cake was in the shape of Florida... honest.

Way to go, Jennifer! Hope this is the start of a long run. I don't know this for sure, but I'm willing to bet that the head of the FCC actually said, "My day is going to suck tomorrow." And if Bart Simpson can say "suck" then I think Jeopardy can say it.

So true. Like when you should just shrug and let something go, or when to put your foot down. There was one time he really read the riot act to Hawkeye (I think it was when Hawkeye shoved the "grim reaper" guy in the O Club), but then after that, he was like, "I'll try to smooth this over" even though he clearly was angry with the way Hawkeye handled the situation. He was a great leader, and everyone in camp had the utmost respect for him.

Some fun Q&As on Ken Levine's blog today about Frasier. http://kenlevine.blogspot.com/2014/06/friday-questions.html

Oh wow, Troy is my first major Jeopardy crush in a while. Whew, be still my heart. Please tell me he's a nice guy, Andrea! LOL.
-
I could be wrong, but I think in Eddie's case, they rang a little chime at the same time the light went on. Continued success, Andrea!

Adding my congrats to theajw for a great win! So wait -- Tigershark is on tomorrow, so you two are playing each other? It's the battle of the PTVers!

I'm not sure if those were the actual words they gave, but the movie is "The Big Lebowski." So happy to see somebody win the final game again. I thought Leslie was absolutely the right choice for that round. I wouldn't have even had a second choice. I know, right? Hilarious!
