Favorite Quotes: "What the hell goes on at night in this house?!"
rubaco replied to Kiddvideo's topic in The Golden Girls
Raise your hand if you think it would be cool to hear the entire song of "I Never Thought I'd Grow a Hair There!" It starts out awfully promising, what with the "oom pah pahs" and the mild cursing. -
Same here! SK is my favorite author, and I also love Duchovny, who was playing in that game as well, so that was a seriously exciting episode for me. I haven't watched it in forever, but I know the FJ was Breakfast at Tiffany's, so therefore it favored SK a bit, I suppose. Great game, in spite of Lynn Redgrave.

I could've sworn that Alex the contestant wasn't done answering with that "2010" clue when Alex T. cut in with "Yes, you got it!" He bugged me. Alex the contestant, I mean. Stop scratching, you're on TV.

It was gutsy, that's for sure. And she got Nuggets about 1 second too late. But I like Kerry and will be happy if she sticks around for a long run. She's unflappable.

I'm not enjoying Michael either. He takes over a game, not unlike Ken Jennings, but he's not as fun to watch or as personable, IMO. Not sure I can articulate it any better than that. I agree that the huge DD bets are unnecessary, but Ken may have done that too, and I honestly never had any problems with Ken's play. So yeah, can't really explain my reaction to Michael. Mannix being a TS made me feel old.

I don't recall ever seeing a single-person FJ before. I actually thought Alex was kind of funny, "We're going to start with you. You were in third place and in the lead." LOL.

I like our current champ and hope she continues for a nice, long run. She's easy to root for, IMO. What do we think about Rebecca (I think that was her name) writing the correct response for FJ, but without the actual name? Did the clue specifically ask for the name? I guess it's kind of like the famous Cliff Clavin response of "Who are people who have never been in my kitchen?"

That was Larry Gelbart telling that story. It still makes me LOL. I think Burghoff is hilarious in that scene anyway, even without the ad lib in there.

Thomas Lennon's line delivery reminded me so much of Niles Crane. So all this episode succeeded in doing was make me miss both Frasier and Friends. If I were a friend of Matthew Perry, I honestly don't know what I'd advise him to do. As others have said upthread, he's great in dramatic roles. He was terrific in The Ron Clark Story. But a whole bunch of Chandler's reactions/looks/lines are among the funniest bits (for me, anyway) from the entire Friends series, so he is clearly very gifted at comedy. I don't know what the answer is for where his career ought to be going. But it's not this show.

I'm just glad that Gemma didn't win. She was on my last nerve.

I love Bottle Episodes, because I'm all about the dialogue. I also usually like It's Only a Dream episodes (the "It May Look Like a Walnut" ep of Dick Van Dyke Show, and "Mrs. George Devereaux" ep from Golden Girls, for instance).

A big advantage of the DVDs, which I assume will not be a feature on the Netflix streaming version, is that you can eliminate the laugh track. Those early years, the laugh track is really obnoxious. I know some people don't mind it, but I especially hate it when it drowns out the dialogue.

For FJ I said Jack Nicholson and was absolutely convinced I was right. Don't you hate when that happens. I had Tom Hanks in mind as well but sorta knew that wasn't right. I'm embarrassed that Dustin didn't even occur to me, as much as I love him.

Everyone's seen the birthday flash mob, right? How cool is this?

Actually, IIRC, the older man asking for diapers and being directed to adult diapers was a story that Harrison Ford told about 10 years ago, when he was trying to buy supplies for Calista Flockhart's baby. I agree with everyone about Cam and Mitchell's relationship. At this point, it really doesn't seem like these are men in love with each other.

It was super-confusing, but after two clues it dawned on me. The category was "Out, -let," so they wanted you to take out the letters "let" from one word to get another word. If Alex explained it in that way, I didn't catch it. I guessed "The Music Man" for FJ, but I didn't recall that particular song. It's so totally overshadowed by all the brilliant show-stopping other songs ("Trouble," "Shipoopi," "Goodnight My Someone" to name only a few).

I'm enjoying Elliot, I find him personable. Plus I have always been a sucker for dimples.

I'm a fan of all 11 seasons of M*A*S*H (although even for a die-hard like me, some eps do get too melodramatic in the later seasons), but I'm surprised nobody has specifically mentioned the shocking death of Henry Blake yet. I believe it was the first time a comedy series killed off a major character. There was yet another Family Ties example, which was an adult friend of the family making a pass at teenage Mallory. As I recall, the scenes where Mallory tried to talk to Alex and later her mom about it were particularly well-done. And let's not forget Soap. The moment that's most memorable for me: Jodie (the Billy Crystal character) being in the hospital for a sex-change operation and actually attempting suicide with pills after his boyfriend dumps him.

I got FJ right away, too, but what I found interesting is that the category was Television. The first thing I said (after the response) was, "Wait -- that isn't technically television." At least not in the traditional sense. It's a web series. Just being super-nitpicky.

Yikes, CNN. Number 17 is incorrect. www.cnn.com/2014/12/17/showbiz/tv/the-simpsons-25-years-feat/

Sigh. My Favorite Martian. Yeah I'm old, but that TS makes me sad. Bixby was so cute back then. Not knowing V is a bit more forgivable.

The Alex story this week was done so much better on Frasier, when Frasier was dating a supermodel/zoologist that his friends and family managed to never see, but "here, look, she's in this ad from a magazine, that's her!" That was a classic Frasier ep. This rehash wasn't necessarily badly done, but it bugged me that the show runners had to steal the idea from themselves.
