  1. You know that is not the same thing. A situation where athletes work together in regular, non-olympic, competition should be allowed to be replicated on the Olynmpic level. But multiple athletes in different events should not be allowed to compete as a team when that team as banned from competition for doping. What was the point in banning Russia in the first place if they were just going to be given a work around?
  2. I discovered the NBC livefeed which is just skating and doesn't skip anyone. Not sure who is doing the commentary. Australian(?) women and an American guy.
  3. I haven't been following closely but I don't get how Russia can compete as a team when they were banned from the Olymnpics?
  4. Trailer is out and it has the creepiest song cover ever. https://www.facebook.com/handmaidsonhulu/videos/546029892424280/
  5. Fun fact, the boys on the bus are Gillian's sons. I don't blame her one bit for wanting to leave. It has been 25 years and Scully has been through pretty much every hell imaginable. The writing is not what it once was. She wants to move on. The show really does need to end. Give these characters some piece and something resembling a happy ending together. They deserve it. GA's tumbler post about Chillis is a reference to a rather infamous fanfic story.
  6. It's late and I am way tired. So Jonah set the kids up for Destiny's murder? Since the parents all wanted to help them at the end. Frank saying he would do anything for Karolina rings pretty hollow at this point.
  7. I just listened to the podcast and have one correction. There is one POC in the episode. She is standing next to Karen at Starbucks and looks at her funny. I was was waiting to see if she got a line and of course not. Non white people only exist in this universe as sexual harassment fodder or as poor people Jack has to help. I'm about to give up on this. The lack of diversity is pathetic and gross.
  8. There is a press release with casting info for the ep that came out a while ago. That actress is in the episode but her character name is "Angel", not Emily. Hell, I don't think CC even remembers Emily existed.
  9. So I am guessing the actual running away will be in the finale? I can't even remember. What is Alex decrypting? Data from Tina's computer? There were some serious mood swings going on in this episode. I'm still not sure how Jonah's serum cured a brain tumor. Victor is one nasty dude. So does his using the fistiwhatevers start a chain of events that lead to chaos and destruction. That was the LA from the future we saw last week. Does Chase go bad? That might actually make him interesting. This show's version of time travel is weird. Why are all the messages on an old tv? I know someone mentioned that last week but seriously. The storyline is already pretty ridiculous. They don't need to make it even more so.
  10. The writers should keep track of stories but the show has been on for 18 years so some stuff is going to be repeated. I just don't the problem with Mariska seeing a documentary and thinking it would make an interesting episode. Being inspired by actual events is a L&O staple. I don't think the writing is as good as it used to be and isn't subtle but I don't understand the vicious level of bashing Mariska gets here. Honestly, if I hated an actor and show as much as y'all do, I'd quit watching.
  11. "Stranger" isn't ringing a bell but I may have seen it years ago and forgotten. I guessed as soon as the girl ran to the cop that it was based on the Imposter case. I highly recommend the documentary on Netflix. The real life story is even crazier. Frédéric Bourdin shows up in Spain and claims to be a missing child from Texas. He has a French accent, the wrong hair and eye color and tells a wild story about being kidnapped by human traffickers. He fools Spanish officials, the FBI for a time and even Nicholas Barclay's family. The docu interviewed them and you really get the feeling that they had ulterior motives for wanting to believe this was true. In that case no one in the family has admitted to anything. Craziest part? They didn't do a DNA test there either before "reuniting" the family. https://www.netflix.com/title/70228012
  12. The Grace and Karen subplot was a horribly offensive mess. I watched the original series but drifted away in later seasons. I vaguely recall Karen had an adversarial relationship with Rosario. Mocking someone for being Puerto Rican isn't funny and I seriously can't believe the writers thought it was. Considering the show's long history of lily whiteness and this is how they treat PoC? I also can't believe that in 2017, we are using sexual harassment as a joke. It doesn't matter if a woman does it. I listened to the podcast and they thought some stuff may have been edited out. Even without the Weinstein stories, this was still seriously screwed up. I suspect the only time we are going to see Tony is when his bosses are harassing him for laughs. How progressive. As soon as the kid said his parents were taking him to a camp, I figured it was to "straighten" him out, I actually liked that whole story even if all of these adults wandering into a kids camp and not having the cops called on them was implausible. Loved all the scenes between Jack and Skip.
  13. I am so not the target audience for this show since I don't usually go for comedy and am not a Sarah Silverman fan. I stumbled across it when I loaded Hulu to watch the latest Law and Order: SVU. Ha. But I gave it a shot. The calling out of white privilege and police brutality in the singing bit was nice to see. The meeting with the Trump supporting family played out almost exactly how I figured it would. I guessed from the start some of them would have some form of government insurance because I guess that never gets old. I didn't really see the point of the naked people but I don't think there was much of one. Nice casting job picking a real woman instead of a model. Overall, I didn't find it especially funny but like I said, I'm not the target audience for this
  14. Has this post been unlocked since last night? No comments? I'm still quite liking this show. Nitpick but I'm pretty sure the term "reality tv show" didn't exist in 1990. I'm not terribly familiar with the case but I am curious how close to reality this is. I'm guessing Judalon really did say Oziel was using mind control on her while she was on the stand? I can see why L&O picked this case. So much crazysauce going all around. Before I call everyone dumb for this, weren't jail visits/phone calls recorded back then? I know LA told them to not discuss their case with anyone but still
  15. So, I am autistic. Happy to see I am not the only one of us here. I thought the previews looked terrible but gave it a shot because it's a show centered around a person with autism and it couldn't possibly annoy me as much as Atypical Likes: Freddy Highmore is quite good. I've never seen any of his previous work but he was absolutely believable as someone on the spectrum. They did a good job with him stimming with the toy scalpel. Shaun's reaction in the airport to everything up until the sign fell was very realistic. I hate airports. THey are loud, full of people and strange things. I was just wondering where his headphones were. I never travel or really go anywhere without them. I listen to loud Linkin Park music on mine but obviously other folks like different stuff but they are great when you have sensory issues. Dislikes: This could take a while. The show is hokey and hamfisted. Yet again, Hollywood depicts autism without involving any actual autistic people. There are many autistic actors and writers they could have gotten involved but they chose not to. How can you tell a story about us without actually involving any of us. It is the typical ableism seen in tv and movies. On the rare occassion they tell a story about someone with a disbility or neuro-divergence, it always is written, produced and acted by able bodied and NTs. Additionally, the only autistic people that exist are white, hetero, cis gender males who tend to be savants. The hospital board scenes were awful for the reasons many others have noted. They acted as if autism was a mental defect. Shaun needs to hire a good lawyer, now. I am also confused if he lived in Wyoming alone. He told the board after his touching little speech that he wants to be rich so he can afford a tv. What? So, all I know about medicine I learned from watching ER and other hospital shows years ago and I never could keep training levels straight. But you don't go straight from med school to residency, right? Don't you do an internship first? So he would have gotten a paycheck before. 14 year old Shaun saying that makes sense. Adult Shuan who has worked and gotten a paycheck would have a basic idea of how much things cost. I can't remember any of the other characters names but if Shuan asking some blunt questions during that surgery would cause the ass surgeon to screw up then the dude really no business operating on anyone. All of the concern over Shaun's social skills seems really misguided.
  16. I am a woman who is autistic. I wasn't really looking forward to this but decided to give it a shot. I'm not impressed. Some stuff was right on like his internal dialog on the bus Totally something I've done. Same with the word fixation. They are seriously relying on stereotypes here for humor which isn't okay. I really don't care about the parents' storyline because I am tired of the focus always being on them. I want to watch a show about an autistic person and not one about what martyrs his parents are. It also seems pretty obvious that Sam has undiagnosed OCD. I'm going to try and watch a few more episodes. I did quite like Casey. She was supportive mostly without trying to dictate his life except for the dating profile thing. Why is a therapist asking all her patients to donate their brains when they die? That's weird.
  17. I don't understand a thing you said here.
  18. So life seems to be imitating art here. Revisiting Law & Order: SVU's The Bachelor-esque Episode, "Assaulting Reality"
  19. The directing and set design on this show is amazing. The visuals with all the red robes were stunning. I have a hard time seeing Moira getting across the border that easily. I have a hard time seeing how she made it out of Boston without hitting a check point. How come she doesn't have a family? Not a single relative out there? Nobody? Emily had a family that got away. Why does Moira's identity have to just be June's friend? POC being treated like this isn't new but I always hate seeing it. Her scene with Luke was very nice. His acting, not so much. I loved that neither of them mentioned June even though both were thinking of her. That moment was all about Moira's liberation and they were going to give it to her. So refugees have better access to healthcare than a hell of a lot of people in the present united states. So, the package that was smuggled to June. On one hand, it doesn't seem that valuable. Just letters. Surely enough people have gotten out to clue people in on what is really going on. On the other hand, those are first person accounts for all to read if they can get them out of the country. When they came for June, what did Nick whisper to her? Are we supposed to understand? It sounded like mumbling.
  20. So I watch the show on an old monitor that has brightness issues. I keep seeing pitch black scenes where I have no idea what's going on but I just figured I need to replace the thing. So other people are having trouble seeing, too?
  21. Saudi Arabia is the only country that bans women from driving. They do have modern technology. We just don't see it since we mostly are coming from June's POV and that is forbidden to her. All of the handmaids have red tags on their ears so they can be tracked by GPS.
  22. Trailer for 1x10 seems to show a stoning....Jeanine? We actually see Moira which suprised me. I figured her fate would be unknown. Of course she could be in ep 10 but they leave her ending up in the air. I'm leaning toward June's ending being like it was in the book.
  23. You know, in any other world, June would be lauded a hero for getting the baby safely from Janine. So Moira is a "degenerate" but Fred was totes cool with having a threesome with her. As a way of saving her soul? Speaking of Moira, that ending. Is women driving going to be an ongoing theme? I would like to think that with her connections she could get out but I'm not so sure Mayday would have that reach. If I had to guess, I would assume her fate will remain unknown so they can bring her back in later seasons. I still don't care about Nick's emo, man pain. It was nice to see the chef again. Who deserves a name.
  24. A very good article by a WOC Race, Intersectionality, and the End of the World: The Problem with The Handmaid’s Tale
  25. I believe June told Emily that she had working part time as an editor (?) since Hannah was born. The little actress is seriously adorable. I also hope we see more of her.
