  1. I guessed Greenland for FJ and have to confess I've never heard of Baffin Island. My bet for any geography category is 0, and I say I would bet negative money if I could since I never get correct answers.
  2. I've had horrible neighbors in the past so this episode gave me a bit of PTSD. I'm betting the trashy neighbors will never be seen again. The best part of the episode was the assorted names of rival closet companies. The Manny story line was a throw away though.
  3. When the old man said "I have matches in my bag" the penny dropped. I yelled "the bird is in the bag." I covered my eyes though.... But wouldn't the social worker ladies realized that the man didn't smell when he wasn't holding his bag? I doubt he took it into his bath.
  4. Tim trotted out the button bag and Char even had a talking head about the button bag. But did he ever use it? Once he saw that Char picked Korina's outfit, he could have changed the outcome by saying "now you will draw your assistant's name from the bag." I did not watch UTG but I'm starting to lose some of my Uncle Tim love. As far as Korina, I understand why she didn't want to work with Char. Nothing again Char, but Korina saw her as the reason she was aufed. I actually respect her for saying "I can't do this" instead of sticking around and whining and moaning. I hope Kini takes the prize. I loved his coat and he made the poufy skirt because Tim told him to amp it up.
  5. Hathaway put his swimming costume into a spinner to spin out the excess water. Most pools have this device so you don't have to lug home a sopping wet suit. I was completely blind--I didn't even realize the surgical nurse was the old woman's daughter!
  6. From Howard's mother (can't remember which episode): "I'm not dressed to receive." Howard (from Bat Jar Conjecture) regarding Leslie Winkleman: " Hit that thang."
  7. As soon as I saw Alexander's fabric choices in Mood I said he will be gone. Do NOT pick green/black houndstooth, and bile yellow. He should have been eliminated just for ugly color combinations. I admit my opinion of Amanda rose when she said re: Zippergate "we voted and said it was o.k." so basically, STFU because nobody spoke up. I admire her for saying that. And yes, this is the most untalented group ever.
  8. This episode reinforced my dislike for Alex. I really cannot stand that girl and she is the black cloud over the family. I loved the "getting along, perfect summer, not a bad plum" Dunphys and felt bad when Alex came back. Mitchell is wearing me out but I still love Cam for all his over-the-topness. "Don't pull that string." And I think Sophia/Gloria looked more beautiful without all the make-up!
  9. I enjoyed it and will watch again because I agree that shows need a few episodes to find their groove. When the family was discussing Obama, I swear Rainbow said Obama was white. Did I mis-hear or mis-interpret?
  10. Monday's game was painful, but I could not even finish watching Tuesday's game. Slow responses, too many TS on $200 clues. I swear my stuffed animals knew more than those contestants. I'm glad Alex got his snark in on the Roosevelts Monday "good thing PBS is airing this so you can watch and learn." Or words to that effect. I keep thinking how Brad, Roger and Ken would sweep the floor with those contestants.
  11. I'm rewatching this season on Youtube. I started with the newspaper challenge which I believe was episode 5. That's where Tim said something along the lines of "Johnny spewing preposterous...." It was a classic line. Tim pretty much told him his design sucked, so Johnny started over yet gave some bull excuse on the runway that the iron sputtered water all over his original design and ruined it. My favorite design of the season was Epperson's western dress which should have won. Loved Iriana's Aspen look and many others. It was a low-key season and Heidi flat out HATED Gordana and was borderline bitchy to others. Wonder if she was having personal problems? And The Duchess was missing from most of the judging panels.
  12. I know exactly what you mean. I love the golden hours of dawn and that is my preferred time to watch TCM movies--around 7 am on a weekend. Or late at night with the lights off, nested on the couch. It's hard to watch in the full daylight. There's something magical about these movies that demand a special viewing environment.
  13. Hello. I wandered over from TWoP--glad to see this group is still here. Watched Foreign Correspondent last night. As much as I love spies and Alfred Hitchcock, I thought this would never end. I knew who the traitor was as soon as he came on screen. The whole airplane scene was just unnecessary, and the ending speech too jingoistic. I kinda want my 2+ hours back. On the other hand, watched Manhattan Melodrama today (the DVR is full of William Powell) and even though the movie is 80 years old, it still packs a punch.
  14. Watched this last night, as my PBS station ran all 3 epis from Season 3. One plot hole to me: when he was questioning the women in his mind palace, I know he said something about "do they have the same employer?" and answered to himself no. But didn't it turn out they all did work for Watson's ex-commander?
  15. I can't decide if Season 2 or Season 3 is my favorite, but when I get into my PR marathon modes, I instinctively go to Season 2 (I own 1-4 on DVD) so I guess it's Season 2 for me. I confess I liked Daniel Franco but he was bit fragile, as was Andrae who was totally robbed in the Inspiration challenge. His gutter water dress is one of the top 5 garments ever produced. It became obvious mid-season that Daniel V. was the golden boy and was set up to win the whole thing but his final collection was a bit meh. But Chole's was so 80s (I had a living room chair in that green floral print). And don't forget Uncle Nick doing Marla and her "wickety whack" strut. Every so often I break into a chorus of "Daniel Franco, where did you go?"
  16. I shamefully confess that I liked Daniel Franco, in both his seasons. There was something endearingly goofy, yet real about his "follow your bliss." His initial design (trash can bag dress and butcher paper jacket) was meh, but Wendy Pepper's was a mess and she should have gone home. I think Daniel could have produced some great things.
  17. I think everyone agrees that Austin wuz robbed in the Nancy O'Dell Grammy challenge. Granted, his design as a bit too flowy but how could Wendy Pepper's dress have won????? I think we all agree that Wendy Pepper was the designer we love to hate, although I did like her final collection with the autumnal colors. The bathing suit challenge completely skeeved me out when the models had to wear the suits to a party and that old leach columnist drooled over 16 year old Melissa.
  18. I have spent waaaay too much time thinking about past seasons! My favorites for the first 5 seasons (i.e., the ones I would want to have a drink with) are: Austin from Season 1, Andrae (Andre?) and Uncle Nick from Season 2, Laura, Kayne and Robert from Season 3 (so shoot me, that was a righteous season), Chris March from Season 4, and Korto from Season 5 (the season I am currently watching and to me this is when they started casting for personality). I never understood how Christian won Fan Favorite when clearly he was an obnoxious little twerp. At least he wasn't mean like Jeffrey or Wendy Pepper (the one we all love to hate, although I did like her final collection). Vincent (season 3) was tolerable because he clearly had mental issues. Angela was just in her own world, but she did listen to Michael and Laura on the team Macy's challenge, toned it down, and won. I still find her whole spiel about the British art camp Jubilee Jumbles (during the dog challenge) to be the wackiest justification for a "giant bag of Skittles dress" ever. I consider Keith Michaels (season 3) another bag of the douche variety.
  19. I've started re-watching Season 5 and cannot believe the level of stupidity. The first challenge was the unconventional materials challenge (they shopped at Gristedes just like S1E1) and most designers took tablecloths and shower curtains, then expressed incredulity when Tim said the judges will penalize you for using something similar to fabric. Suede actually said "I never thought about what I would use in an unconventional materials challenge." Have you never watched the show???? You had 4 seasons to figure this out. Blayne and Stella were the most untalented designers ever. Blayne because he came up with cr@p and Stella because she couldn't see outside her leatha box.
  20. Jay's Chrysler Building dress from Season 1, Jillian and Victorya's avanet garde coat from Season 4 (I cover that coat), Korto's seat belt coat from Season 5. Andre's gutter water dress from Season 2 (Inspiration).
  21. I lost all interest in this show when Anya won. I've always suspected there was producer bias and her win proved it. So what have been your favorite designs that didn't win their challenge? Season One Jay and his Chrysler building dress is my first pick. Second was Season Four Jillian and Victorya's avant garde coat. I covet that coat.
  22. Cooper (blonde boy from Arkansas) looks exactly like Jackie Cooper (child star of the 20s and 30s, etc.) I'm assuming the name is just a coincidence. I normally don't get into the Teen Tournament, but this one is really good. I think because none of the contestants have an attitude--they just seem like nice, normal teens.
  23. I enjoy the Teen Tournament because the kids are so freakin' smart. I was smart in high school but not as smart as these kids. The games are easy for me because I'm 57 years old and know old stuff, but I'm a dummy when it comes to pop songs and fashion and technology. Despite being raised Baptist, I had no clue to Monday's FJ. I learned something from Cooper! (and it's obvious now, but I was totally blank).
  24. There hasn't been much on tv lately so I've doing a PR marathon. I own seasons 1-4 so I started from the beginning. I never really cared for Jay's designs until I watched the show about 5 times. Now I can see the thoughtfulness and creativity behind his designs. I still cannot figure out Wendy Pepper. She did crap during the season yet I think her collection was really good. Kara Saun's collection was derivative and really more ready to wear. Anyway, I still love the previous seasons but haven't watched the last 2. I might tune in this time just to see a big old train wreck.
  25. I always loathed Ted even back during the original airing (shows how old I am). That said, Ted Baxter's Famous Broadcaster's School was one of the classic episodes. Lone student: "How will the class average be determined?" Lou Grant "We'll be grading on a standard bell curve."
