I'm sad to see Fred go, but frankly he deserved it after that bone head FJ wager. The wager is 99% of FJ. WTF?

War And Peace (2016) - General Discussion
PaulaO replied to ApathyMonger's topic in War And Peace (2016)
Also just watching for the scenery, and the horses. It's just a gorgeous soap opera and I don't really care about the plot, except I hope Andrei and Natasha stay together. I find them a charming couple. Pierre, though. Looks like he needs a good laxative. His face is perpetually sad/puzzled and IMHO the actor has no range. Was veryvery excited to see a commercial for the latest version of "And Then There Were None." That is getting rave reviews. -
Bianca answered "man" for the song. She should have been dinged, or least gotten a BMS because the song is "daring young man on the flying trapeze." And Fred should not have been dinged for the EP. I like Fred and hope he wins tomorrow.

Finnish composer is Sibelius. General Scandinavia country question is Norway.

Insta Get F J, although my co-worker is scheduled for the online test so we look at the NYT clue in the morning. It's the FJ question for the day so I feel I cheated.

I guessed Luci Byrd. Who was the sister who dated George Hamilton? And the whole Crossword Pun Clue category was pointless. I've said for years that every game has a clue that allows Alex Trebek to demonstrate that he speaks French.

The second line of the hymn is "that saved a wretch like me." Slave trader turned minister...

Stale pastry is hollow succor to a man bereft of ostrich. (Sheldon's computer is hacked and Penny brings him a cheesecake to make him feel better).

I know about Holmes and the cocaine in the books. If there has been mention of his using in this series, I missed it.

I watched it again last night and enjoyed it even more. The Victorian running and screaming was annoying though so I fast forwarded. Has there ever been mention of this Sherlock being an addict (excuse me, user) other than nicotine? His list must have had some powerful drugs on it. And I think Sherlock is just horrible to Mycroft, who will always be there for him. I want to know that backstory.

I felt sorry for Ava. She looked petrified. I was hoping she wasn't going to pass out. Sorry to see Steve go. I enjoyed him.

Can't figure out how to quote Does anyone else remember the final line of the series (spoken by the narrator)? I remember watching it although I was only 10. Put me out of my misery....

I like the new champ, especially how he kind of giggled when he answered "what is stevedore?" Since his name is Steve... Yeah, we needed BMS for Kennedy and Marsalis.

Um, I was in Paris 2 months ago, and still answered Arc de Triomphe. I knew I was wrong as soon as I said it, although I confess we never actually made it to the Pantheon but walked near it several times on our way to the crepe restaurant. I had never even heard of the Pantheon til we planned our trip.....

The game was waaaayyy too painful to watch so I turned it off before FJ. I could not deal with The Arm of Rami, and Sam was doing so poorly I figured no way he was making it to FJ. did hear Ebenezer Screws and thought she would be dinged for that.

I think Shannon's hair was so black that it looked purple. At first I thought it was blue but then decided it was raven black. Whatever color, it was gorgeous. Oddly enough, I have no complaints about the current champ.

Sunset Boulevard last night. Gosh, what a great picture. William Holden's character (Joe Gillis) had moments of unlikeableness , and Norma Desmond had moments of lucidity. Great dialog, great settings. The cinematography was so clean and crisp even though the furnishings and house in general were so heavy. One of the best movies ever. Loved the shoulders in Holden's suits. I'm surprised he could get throught doors without getting stuck.

Alex was downright insulting in his opening remarks, pointedly saying Joyce had a very low score the previous day, and how he hoped the categories played to the contestants strengths. His remarks usually don't bother me, but this really did. I'm glad Joyce did very well. Alex can eat his words but he'll probably say something about "she liked the categories."

I've seen bits and pieces of Hunchback but never the whole thing. So I was excited to watch it last night. But it was so sad, Quasimodo getting 50 lashes, that I had to turn it off. What an excellent performance by Charles Laughton. 1939 was a magical year.

I knew Matt was going to lose when he kinda got emotional talking about his teachers. He was letting his feelings get in the way of playing. Not that there's anything wrong with that. And not to take away from Alex's win (I was rooting for him) but what was Alex T. babbling about that his was the most impressive win?

Two things that bugged me: Ty Burrell's tight clothes, especially his shirt buttons straining, and coming back from commercial breaks showing a few seconds of the last scene. Was that just a way to kill more time?
-
I refer to my nephew's daughter as my niece-lette. Solves that problem. You know what else bugs me about Matt? That he and Alex T. won't give in. Matt knows Alex T. wants to make a little comment after each correct answer, yet insists on talking over him. And Alex T. knows Matt will talk over him, yet insists on making a little comment after each correct answer. O.K. I'm done now. Go Alex J. and Kerry!

Matt bugs me and I finally figured out why. Because he wants it so badly. Lighten up Francis, it's a freakin' game. Alex J. and Kerry seems cool about it; they act like it's fun. But Matt is so damn serious that I want him to lose just to teach him humility. On the other hand, I'm taking this too seriously--I need to lighten up!

I'm rooting for Alex J. I had no idea about FJ, figured it would be something Soviet, so answered Trebekistan.

I had no idea what the correct answer was for the Shakespeare DD, but Titus Andronics has been popping up a lot lately, so that is now my default answer when I don't know. And I was right. Seems like sometimes the writers get stuck on an answer and use it over and over until the novelty finally wears off.
