  1. Maybe he and Kyland could. I'd be good with that! He is too pure but in a show that is full of crazy drama and manipulation he's a good break from that. I think his pure heart is why TJ likes him so much. I think TJ really respects his, "Pick me, save one of the women." Is it totally sexist of him to do so? Yup. But, in a game that is mostly inherently unbalanced, I can understand it. I know that in some finals the women have carried the men with their skills, but I'd be stunned if a woman were to win this one. I completely read this in Duke Silver's voice.
  2. Horacio is such a class act. Now I really want him to win. Him and only him. (I'll be fine with Kyland, but that's it.) When Jay was going on about Asaf and his family, all I could think was that Asaf could get a job, like a regular person if he's that worried about his family.
  3. For me, the benefit of the first movie, is that it introduced me to the books. I went with a friend who had read the books, but I didn't even know it was a series. I watched the movie (she hated it) and enjoyed it so I checked out the books. And then I understood why she hated the movie.
  4. I feel like there were a couple finals where the individuals were forced to work together periodically. I think there was one where a person arrived at a task but had to wait for the next person to arrive to do the task. Someone said something about being an engineer this episode and I thought it was Ed.
  5. I did appreciate that in a call back to his own challenge history he decided to not call Horacio down. To me that was a classy, adult CT.
  6. But he originally voted for Emmanuel. If he had voted for Emmanuel again, wouldn't that have saved Ed because Emmanuel would have been the house vote? I can't remember if Cory voted before Ed or after Ed. I guess technically Ed's vote wasn't burned, but definitely in violation of their overstuffed alliance. Yet I don't remember Jay coming down as hard on either Ed or Cory about it. Just the girls. (I confess this show is like a Hershey bar to me. I enjoy it while consuming it but basically forget everything about it less than an hour later. This is especially the case because often Challenge logic makes no effing sense.)
  7. Upon further reflection, I think I'm glad CT took down Asaf. 1. He was very annoying. 2. It really screws with Jay's "game." I'm kind of looking forward to all his chest thumping bravado about his #1 going home. It being all the girls' fault is 100% the standard misogyny this show thrives on. Ed burned his vote. Kyland burned his vote too, right? I can't remember who the other one was who voted for Cory. But I think it was Kyland so that burn doesn't matter. None of the other guys changed their votes. Why were the girls expected to change theirs?
  8. With 39 seasons and 26 years have passed, some of the new viewers and probably challengers have never even seen those early seasons. Bring back a nice Gauntlet or Inferno over this mess.
  9. The thing that has grown irritating on this show is that the under dog folks always play a scared game to the ones perceived to be the "top" dogs, vets or previous champions or whatever. I can't even remember the last time one of the underdog groups banded together to oust one of the leaders. And they should. They usually have more power than they realize. I don't really understand how Michelle and Jay have become the top dogs this season. It isn't like they have more seasons between them or anything. It's weird to me. I like Ed a lot. I agree with his challenge spirit. I also really liked the elimination game. I thought that was interesting and I am glad Kyland won. I like him too for some reason. (For now.)
  10. And here in the US we don't even have season 6 yet! Stupid HBOMax. 😭
  11. Whenever I'm pointing out the deficiencies in US school system I come back to the fact that the first time I heard anything about the Japanese internment camps in the US was from the episode of Cold Case.
  12. To quote the kids, today I learned that I haven't watched all the episodes of shows I watch. I do not remember the Halloween Baking Show smash thing and I must have missed like half of Ashoka. And I didn't know that Shazz had died on Only Murders in the Building.
  13. Perhaps it is like other areas that thanks to COVID and no people around to make things dirty, nature managed to clean itself up. The differences in the air in Hong Kong before COVID and during COVID lockdowns were amazing. If you know how to swim properly, it's very hard to swim with a life jacket on. Your buoyancy is thrown off and the bulk can impede your strokes. Their purpose is to keep you afloat in an emergency, not help you swim better/faster. I really like all three teams and am not sure who I want to win more. I'll be sad for the two teams that don't lose. I am surprised that beard bros has gotten as far. I don't think I would have expected that at the beginning.
  14. I just did a re-watch of the whole thing, down to the movies. I forgot how weird season 8 was. I did not like the Gus Nightmare on Elm Street episode at all. (Probably because I don't like or watch horror films so I didn't understand what on earth was going on.)
  15. There was a time that Roku had the very early seasons with Mel & Sue. You may be able to find them there and see the before Lucas seasons. They had Mary Berry instead of Prue as well. I'm still giggling to myself at Matty kind of prancing around in the background where Paul is trying to do a talking head carrying his cake plate above his head.
  16. Well, I'm a little bummed that it wasn't a 3 way melee, but the champion getting to pick whomever they want really did ratchet up the drama. And I kind of love that it was Devin, pot stirrer extraordinaire, who was the first one to get to do that. I wonder if we'll have repeat champions or if each episode it will be someone new. I know that TJ talks about chaos and how you can't predict anything, but honestly those girls fussing about how it could be a girls' week again were irritating to me. They're never going to intentionally set it up so that there are more of one gender than the other (I say intentionally because obviously with Big T winning hers but Callum and the other guy losing his they are going to have an imbalance between female and male competitors). Of course it was going to be a male week. I do wonder if when they get closer to the final might they mix it up a bit by having more of one gender if there is an imbalance between the genders or not.
  17. I voluntarily sought that out. It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. Probably but I don't like the ones that are 100% brute strength. I like it when there's a nice mix of strength/endurance/physicality and mental prowess. It was never fun to me to watch Rogan or Zach just take these tinier men out event after event. Except the CT/Bananas backpack. That will never not be fun but at least they both were semi-evenly matched.
  18. I was thinking it would be a 3 way melee with only one winner. I do appreciate that they're trying with the elimination to make the playing field not 100% strength based. It got old in the seasons where it was all hall brawl and the like all the time and that one beefy Brit gave Jay a concussion. (It was Jay, right? I think that was the year I still liked him, now he gets on my nerves). Although the fun part about when it was the big guys left, few of them have endurance enough to complete a final so you'd sometimes get an upset. I liked that Big T figured out the trick to the caterpillar game. Sometimes it would be nice to see all the rules. Like it seems they couldn't just stuff the pieces into the caterpillar tube with them, but to me that would make the most sense.
  19. One glaring difference (that I LOVE) between American and British shows is the treatment of Tasha. Never once has Tasha had to say "I just want to prove that Deaf people can do the same things Hearing people can." Every talking head she's had has been focused on the bake and how she feels about how she's doing.
  20. I'm finding I'm the opposite. More and more I like them. They're really creative and I really enjoyed how he responded to the fact that their car was going to be in the video game. He was really pleased by that and I think we saw something genuine in his reaction. I believe that's probably why they won ultimately. Paul and Nealita's car was better built, but at the end of the day it still looked like a car. From a video game design perspective, the shark car was cooler.
  21. I went on Saturday, specifically so my dollars count in the weekend box office. I really enjoyed it, but because I don't know the comics that well (or at all) there was a tiny part of me that wondered if there wasn't some "What do girls like? They like kittens and musicals" going on. Like in the source material is Carol married to a prince whose planet communicates in song? I don't know. It just felt like the singing and the kittens were tacked on because "girls like these things." I also didn't realize that Kamala would still have her powers without the bracelet/arm band thing. I thought that's what provided her powers so that was a little confusing. (I did watch her series, but it's been a hot minute).
  22. I wasn't under the impression that they were pulling their technicals out because they were out of time and had to, I was under the impression they thought they were done (except Matty who put his in much later than everyone because of the caramel issue). Everyone was so surprised that they weren't even close to being done. Why didn't they put them back in the oven? Once they unmolded one and discovered it was still a raw mess, put the rest back? I know that creation is different than a cake, but couldn't they have poked one with a toothpick to see the doneness before they pulled them? I too will miss Saku. I liked her a lot.
  23. I felt like they were being a little over-dramatic about the safety of the kittens when it came to the guy team who was in the bottom two. My idiot kitten once jumped from the top shelf of a 6' shelving unit and neatly landed on the sofa. They're more durable than you think. I did like their clear aquarium idea and the kitten seemed like she liked it. They did deserve to be in the bottom two. I don't disagree with their placement because they didn't complete the build properly. I'm bummed the grannies went home. I liked them. I love the mother/son team who have now won two in a row. I was hoping the team that kept saying "meow" would have been in the bottom and gone. The one who got all stressed and panicky is annoying to me.
  24. I was curious so I googled it. Apparently it is possible to be allergic to fish but not crabs/lobster etc because they are different proteins. Just as it is possible to be allergic to shellfish and not regular fish. I know from reading posts that Sav was a team leader but somehow I have no memory of her.
  25. I love Laurence. I don't know why I do, but I do. I think it is her don't give a fuck attitude about the whole thing. At this point I'm team anybody but Brittney. I don't really have a good reason to not like her. There's literally nothing wrong with her. I didn't like her long sleeved thing because it reminded me of an episode where someone else did the mile long sleeves with belts and straps. I can't for the life of me remember who because I just binge watched the entire series in the last couple of months so they've all kind of run together. I think with Avant Garde challenges, they run the risk of being "too costumey." (And by too costumey I mean in the judges eyes, not in real life.) From that link shared above, there is a fantastic evil queen outfit. I could see if the designers did something similar (although not nearly as fantastic given the time constraints) it being dinged for being a costume.
