"The Daily Show": Week of 5/11/15
Gulftastic replied to trow125's topic in The Daily Show With Jon Stewart [V]
I liked the piece on our election. Made me smile, which is more than the actual event did. And don't believe that money has no part in the UK system. Virtually all the press has been used to build a narrative of blame against those with the least amount in our society. Somehow, all our problems have become the fault of the people with no power. I wish Labour would actually stand for something again. Sod it, if you're going to lose, have some bloody principles in doing so. The tories are ghoing to usher in more cuts for the poor, more ridiculous Union bashing, and this deliberately vague bit of legislation: http://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2015/may/13/counter-terrorism-bill-extremism-disruption-orders-david-cameron Please note the astonishing quote: “For too long, we have been a passively tolerant society, saying to our citizens: as long as you obey the law, we will leave you alone." -
S08.E24: The Commitment Determination

Aside from thinking about The Flash TV show, Sheldon seemed into the snogging. He was keen to carry it on. Aside from their first kiss on the train, this is the closest we've seen to sexual desire from him. -
'Maybe it's for the best....I'll get you another one' Laurel was one step from launching into 'Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life'. Poor Daisy. Run over by a lush then buried in a shallow grave. I love Cain these days, when he is able to talk about his demons. Since the incident where Zak smashed his head in, he has seen commendable character growth.

S08.E24: The Commitment Determination

I know this is my show because as soon as they started talking about sticking with a show till the bitter end, my mind went straight to Smallville. I'll never get that time back. I liked the ep. When a sitcom runs this long, with one or two exceptions, it has to become a soap opera with laughs. BBT has done that rather well. I am invested in Penny & Leonard and the Shamy (top notch acting from them in the video chat part). I don't care if it's more soap than sitcom. I like soaps.- 145 replies

In the Media: The Blogs Must Be Crazy

It's already gone from Comedy Central UK. We used to get it 24 hours later than the Murrcans but this week saw the end of that. They bizarrely stopped it on Wednesday's episode. I'd have thought they'd at least aired the full week's worth. I had to resort to the internets to see Sam Bee's farewell episode. I also though that if they wanted to drop the show, they might at least wait till Jon's final show, which would give them a natural cut-off point. Idiots. -
I can't do with Adam in nearly any plot. His shouty acting gets on my last nerve.

S08.E22: The Graduation Transmission

I thank god I 'obtain' the show from the interwebs. That amount of commercial breaks would drive me up the wall. Even when they eventually air on proper TV here in the UK, there's only one break in the middle. -
Totally on side with Gloria and Mitchell. I miss the days when I could drink in a pub all evening, then go onto a club till after 2am, then walk home and still be OK the next day. Night's out need to be followed by a free day now. I'm so old. The 'Guy' and 'Buddy' gags made me laugh, as did the '100 bottles of your wine!'

However much they use the same plots for Sienna, I don't care, because Anna Passey makes the show 100% better just by appearing. She's my favourite thing on HO by some distance. I loved her smirking at the fretting McQueen women. When the Hollyoaks gig finishes, I hope she gets some other work. She'd be great in Emmerdale.

Leonard in his shorty robe was great, and I love that Penny arranged for him to make the speech on Skype. Nice stuff, show. -
The show is addicted to the hospital, but yesterday's reason for using the set was the most pathetic yet. 'The baby's swallowed a bit of the cheap ring you gave me....TO THE HOSPITAL, POST HASTE!......oops, it was in my purse the whole time. Doh.'

I love your idea of Laurel being too drunk to save her Dad. Although I'd be even happier to swap Marlon for Doug, just to be rid of him.
-
Didn't mind Rachel in her first stint. I liked her and Sam together. As far as I can see, they've brought her back and changed her to being horrible specifically so they can write her out again without her being the 'wronged party', and with us all thinking it's right that she leave. This is speculation on my part.

I desperately need to see Lochlan getting his head kicked in. What an evil little git.

The thing I noticed on a re-watch was that Bubbles' redemption echoes something Waylon said to him in season one. When Waylon's nephew was scrambling for testers in the lo-rises, he said that he wasn't ready to quit as he hadn't reached his bottom yet. Bubbles' had to reach his bottom, with the accidental killing of Sherod and the attempted suicide at the end of season 4, before he could get himself truly clean.

In the very last episode, I love Carcetti's speechless disbelief at McNulty's antics, and Norman's amusement. I also enjoyed Rawls manipulation for his own benefit. Always a survivor. Very glad when Cheese got killed. Nice one, Slim! And Bubbles character arc ended perfectly, with him going upstairs to eat with his family.

I like Chrissie. I hope this whole mess doesn't lead to her being driven away from the Village. Her and Alicia could be good friends.

Tax the poor to soak the rich, and the cycle keeps rolling on.

Jim Parsons appeared this week on long running UK childrens' show 'Blue Peter'. He took part in one of the show's traditional features, a 'make'. He showed how to build a model of his character from his new film, using craft materials. It was so cool to see Sheldon wearing a Blue Peter Badge!

Ugly Betty's Dad! Yay for casting! Poor Marianna when he refused to have anything to do with her. I hope they become part of her and Jesus' lives now. They seem like caring Grandparents. I too was shocked when Connor flat out told his Dad he was out for Jude. Way to not drag it out for too long, show. And as soon as I saw the kind of place that Anna was living, I knew Stef would be taking her home. I'm a little surprised that Mike even let her move there in the first place, though.

Add me to the list who thought they were heading for a lesbian twist to the tale. Maybe I've been spending too much time on AfterEllen.

Shit got dark. Well, darker. This show has so exceeded my expectations. At the start it seemed like a version of Lord Of The Flies with pretty Murrcan teens. I watched because I liked the lead actress in Neighbours. Now, I'm so glad I did. Can't wait for next season!

I had no idea that people from Puerto Rico etc were considered US citizens. I blame being a Brit. Do they pay taxes towards the US, but can't vote? Cos I seem to remember that causing some problems a while ago. The 'Daylight Savings Time' ( or 'British Summer Time' as we call it, and we did, after all, invent time...;) ) lie about it being for the farmers exists on our side of the pond too.
