  1. I loved Janet trying to be bad. “Farts!” Other great moments: Dax Shepherd telling Chidi, ‘you’ve got that good stank.’ Talking about his wife. Awww Eleanor remembering her mom Stealing Vicodin from nurses at the hospital . Eleanor and Chidi talking on the train. She can finally curse! and Jason grew a brain and used his Molotov cocktail to actually help their situation. Jortles!
  2. Why kicked off completely and not just suspended?
  3. Sad to hear a ut One Mississippi. I really like Tig Notaro.
  4. TV magic Right. But I do think Rebecca contemplates most things before doing them. And people on this show believe in ambushing other people. They must think an ambush demonstrates spontaneity and passion. I think they’re just rude. Toby ambushed Kate when he came over to watch football after she said she wanted to be alone, arranged for her to sing at the nursing home, showed up at camp, etc. Randall and Jack ambush their wives constantly. Kevin ambushed Sophie. Kevin ambushed Randall by just showing up at his house—and staying. People love to show up at each other’s jobs without calling. And Madison ambushed Kate with the bridal shop appointment—although that one did turn out nicely.
  5. Interesting list...more than the usual Julia Roberts and Tim Cruise. Im curious: why don't you like Adam Scott Kumail Nanjiani T.J. Miller?
  6. Really enjoyed the Pilot. Courtney seems smart despite being clueless at times. And his friends crack me up . Glad to see Yvette Nicole Brown and Lea Michelle.
  7. I forgot to mention that I loved the scene with Randall playing with the neighbors' baby for so long that they had to ask for him/her back. "Okay, that's all for today."
  8. Well said. Just adding that I don't think Beth is angry or a Debbie Downer, as some posters have suggested. She laughs, she jokes around with the family, and she's almost always on board with Randall's ideas, no matter how quirky (e.g. thanksgiving). Plenty of other characters on the show get upset and express their opinions. So why does it bother people so much when a black woman does it? And there's a special place in hell for people who say that.
  9. But I thought Randall and Kate got along for the most part. Although if lines were drawn, she likely would've sided with Kevin. I wonder what happened to Randall's friends? I guess they weren't at that party. What about the kids from the pool? The show hasn't made me cry once. And I'm a normally crier with movies and TV shows. (Don't watch 'Steel Magnolias' with me. I'll be Viola Davis-ing it up all over the place). But that doesn't take away my enjoyment of the show or its characters.
  10. The show is doing this to me--to us. Too many clues, red herrings, and psych outs. Car accident? Nope. Construction accident? Nope. Shot in a bar fight? Nope. And it has become tiring. It's reminiscent of Kate Beckett's mother's death on Castle I did like the kids' reactions after learning about Jack's death. The young actors did a great job. From what I can tell, Kevin is still really, really popular, isn't if he isn't the greatest actor out there. And the movie sounds like a rom-com, something he can handle. Not, say, Ghandi or Sophie's Choice.
  11. I just watched a TV commercial with the actress who plays Evelyn, and it made me sad all over again. I think the marketing for the show was all wrong: debuting it during baseball season and the playoffs, making baseball fans their target audience (instead of doing more to attract female viewers, and people of color). Who knows? Maybe it still wouldn't have done well, but I hate knowing that a good show like Pitch didn't have a great rollout.
  12. I find myself listening to Feral Audio podcasts a lot. The network is somewhat incestuous: the beginning of a podcast episode is usually an introduction to another Feral podcast, and hosts often appear as guests on each other shows. It has introduced me to a lot of good podcasts I might not have known about otherwise: My Favorite Murder, Dumb People Town, Found, and Beyond Yacht Rock. The NPR and NYC Studios podcasts are good. The NPR ones are good for when I actually want to learn something. But I mostly listen to podcasts for entertainment and a few belly laughs.
  13. Has anyone seen the live show? I wanted to go, but the tickets were quite expensive. Is Chrystianna really gone, or is she doing the summer tour?
  14. Yes, this is a movie and tv trope that I hate, that the person in a stable relationship realizes at the end of the day that they've really loved you all along. Romantic, yes, but both of you are creeps. And at least one of you will end up cheating on the other. Same here. My kids like them, but those movies bore me to tears.
  15. Maybe at the end of the season, you can record a podcast episode that looks at 09 (or more) season-long topics: e.g. Veronica's evolution as a character, social issues, relationships in Neptune--not just romantic relationships, but also friendships, father-daughter foot-rubbing relationships (Ewww), etc. In the latest episode thread, Sarah and other posters (like affogato) have started some great discussions on topics like patriarchal relationships in Neptune, Veronica's need for control, etc. I'd love to see Sarah and John address some of these.

    Tennis Thread

I thought that in addition to their Charter school, they did something with kids and tennis. But maybe that was just on the tv commercial with their own kids.
  17. Your listing of the credits made me crack up. Sigh. So they're still going with Davonte? I was hoping Bo would have a change a heart at the last minute and insist on coming up with a better name. And it's not just because it's a 'black' name. I just don't like the name Davonte. And I'm going to fanwank that Bow acted so clueless and surprised about pre-eclampsia and its complications because she was nervous about the baby and had shifted from doctor mode to scared mother mode. But IRL she would most of this info already, both from med school and from having 4 other kids. Even though she isn't an OB/Gyn, she would still know it.

    The NBA

Seriously? LeBron is not the first player in NBA history to go ring-chasing. Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen joined Paul Pierce in Boston to form "The Big 3." Gary Patton, Karl Malone, and later Steve Nash joined the Lakers in hopes of a getting a championship. Charles Barkley left the 76ers and joined the Phoenix Suns and later the Houston Rockets in hopes of winning a championship and Clyde Drexler, one of my favorite players of all time, requested that the Blazers trade him to the Rockets, a team with championship potential --and those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head. You think Steph is smug? How so? I'm not a fan of his, but it seems like his public persona is this kind-hearted Christian guy who loves his family and won't trash talk players (off the court). Like Ned Flanders with a sweet jumper.

    Tennis Thread

It's interesting to me how much Agassi stays in the tennis world, even though in his memoir 'Open,' he couldn't stop talking about how much he hated tennis, even when he was at the top of his game. And Steffi Graff said she felt the same way. But both of their kids play tennis, and I believe they run a youth tennis academy.
  20. This looks like a smart comedy that will also address social issues. Looking forward to watching it.
  21. I can't even figure out what P & E and the Centre are doing anymore. I get that they're fighting for Soviet ideals, but are those ideals even realistic anymore? I think Oleg is learning the hard way that the USSR is not the place he thought it was--or is supposed to be. And I think Philip has boarded that train, too.
  22. I was impressed by the things the husband was able to do on his own--adding the beams, doing the kitchen backsplash, etc. But $36,000 for tile floors? Sheesh
  23. I must admit I've never watched Underground. And now I feel guilty that it was canceled. Was a good show, or was it simply an IMPORTANT show?
  24. I'm sad to say that I saw this over the weekend. I guess I'm part of the reason this movie opened at #1. I sure didn't see that one coming. In my defense, I saw it with my young son, who really wanted to see the movie. It was, in a word, dumb. It had a few funny moments but was a typical Madea comedy: long scenes with people sitting around contemplating today's lack of 1) religion. 2) respect for elders, and 3) parents beating their children. All while senior citizens curse, brag about their sexual exploits, and smoke lots of weed. Bad performances all around (even worse than usual), and terrible writing (even worse than usual). I did like some of the cameos from working comedians: Lavell Crawford, "Nephew" Tommy, and Dominique, to name a few. And my son pointed out that some of the young people in the movie are YouTube/Internet stars. Yeah, I'll have to take his word for it. And the young actress playing the daughter was pretty. Couldn't act worth a darn, but she was pretty.
  25. I agree that they're kids, but as the mother of two boys, you have to start training boys early on how to treat women. Yes, Jayla was wrong for interrupting Prince and for her general arrogance, but that does not justify him getting in her face and arguing with her. I hope his mom talked to him off-camera about that behavior being unacceptable. And maybe this is petty, but Nia Kay needed a sports bra. Her boobs were bouncing up and down way too much when the kids were exercising. Somehow I think that if her mother were with her, she would've made sure she had the proper undergarments. I'm surprised none of the other mothers stepped in to help this young lady. Or the show's producers.
