  1. I saw a commercial this morning for Hasbro toys based on the upcoming Black Panther movie, which is great. And there are children of color in the commercial, which is also great (one black girl, one black boy, and another boy who could be Latino--I'm not 100% sure). But the fact that there are only children of color in the commercial concerns me. Even though this is a huge Marvel movie, most of the cast is black, and its trailers and marketing might make it seem like a "black" movie to the casual viewer. I can't argue much with that because every black person I know is excited to see it, and most of us (me included) are not comic book-movie fans. And I'm sure (I hope) that more than just black people will see Black Panther. But this Hasbro commercial seems to be sending the message that the toys themselves are just for black children. Which, no, they aren't. I just hope there are other versions of the commercial that are more universal. I know I might sound hypocritical. I applaud diversity in advertising. But I hate it when any kind of marketing or advertising pigeonholes a product or service into being just for a certain kind of people, which might limit its overall appeal and success
  2. I know? Aren’t they annoying? That makes them perfect for one another. I love the way Glenn slowly peeled away that page and threw it away without looking at it. He handled it gently, like it was a loaded weapon.
  3. It’s still not totally clear to me what’s going on with Selena. I think she said that she had seizures AND mini-strokes after her grandmother died. But what were the crutches for? Seizures don’t make you limp. And by definition, a TIA (mini-stroke) shouldn’t cause balance issues or neurological issues unless it was a full stoke.

    Tennis Thread

Maybe I’m missing it on my on-screen guide, but it looks like the women’s final will only air tonight on the Tennis channel. The men’s final is listed the way I’m used to seeing it: initially on ESPN with replays on the Tennis channel. Does—whoever decides these things—feel the women’s match doesn’t warrant a national broadcast on ESPN because it might not have the highest of ratings? If so, that’s not fair. But I hope I’m wrong altogether.
  5. I like Chrystianna, but there’s no way she should’ve been chosen over Princess. Dianna made an emotional choice, which was her right, of course. IMO, Princess auditioned better than Makaya, too. It seems like Dianna knew who she was going to choose even before the auditions. So why make the girls go through all of that and give them false hope?
  6. Keke Palmer! She was a great guest. I love her energy, and she worked well with the kids. Jordan was grating last night. He IS cute, but he was acting like he’s already Drake or Usher, not a marginally-talented teenager who needs to keep hustling to try to impress JD. I can’t believe Lil Bri was the only person who had issues with looking down at the floor or messing up in general and having to do retakes. She certainly didn’t deserve #4. Editing is crazy. Rap-unzel is beautiful, and the camera loves her. But her verse didn’t impress me. Ricci is comfortable in front of a camera, but her verse sucked. I can’t believe her manager and father actually thought it was good. Poor Street Bud. He’s too young to be on this show. I’m still not blown away by anyone. But if JD chooses Jordan or Ricci, I’ll be so upset. It’ll be another Mani situation—a choice based on so-called ‘star power,’ not talent.
  7. But that make would me question a person’s grasp on reality. The person Kelly saw when she fell into the pool was probably a lifeguard. I agree with Jonah that her refusing to even consider that possibility was weird. And look at the Cloud 9 employees who agreed with her. They were exactly the sharpest knives in the drawer.
  8. Sounds like she will be carrying much of this movie, similar to Christina Ricci in Addams Family 2. Marsai is talented and mature enough that I think she can handle it.
  9. So the couples are actually on the episodes? I thought it was just the experts. So I’ve always deleted it from my DVR.
  10. That reminds me of being a little girl (and an adult) in church, and the pastor would talk about how great heaven was going to be because all the angels did all was fly around singing, ‘Holy, Holy, Holy’ to God. I always thought then—and now—that heaven didn’t sound great at all—it sounded boring AF.
  11. I’m glad that Randall (and Allison) weren’t hung up on being an interracial couple, but I’m surprised that no one talked about it at all. Not snarky Kevin, and not even Jack and Rebecca having a throwaway line about being glad that times have changed, or something like that. I don’t know when Randall and Kevin go to the gym, but I’m so,glad they do. And why don’t Tessa and Annie play team sports anymore? Tessa was the family athlete.
  12. Yes! Hilarious. Glenn throwing away the Before pictures of Dina’s vagina?. Yeesh. TMI, Dina. Jonah was back on his high horse. Whether or not he believes in angels, he should’ve respected her right to do so. Although Kelly has been getting dumber and dumber since she arrived at Cloud 9. I can’t imagine what they talk about anyway when they’re together . Then again, maybe there isn’t much talking. I loved Garrett’s glee at having the apt. to himself for the weekend. And the rom-com lines he used at the end to encourage Jonah to make up with Kelly. Amy was being meddlesome again, but she didn’t annoy me this week. She wasn’t being mean. Cheyenne’s mother was funny. ‘She could end up in jail. Or working here when she’s our age.’ Hated the Green Day Party. But I liked that she expects Cheyenne to go to college. Mateo hanging out in the break room all day. ‘I’m just not feeling it today.’ Ha. This shoe. How do the employees get away with this stuff?
  13. And he made what he considered a really tough decision. That’s progress.
  14. This is the woman who proudly announces her masturbation habits to anyone who’ll listen, but I do think a producer prompted her to ask the sex question. Shawniece is not oversexed, though. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have been celibate for four years. Sex is special to her. Wow. Now I’m even more impressed that Shawniece (and wimpy Jephte) climbed it on their own. In the version we saw, anyway.

So New England doesn’t get called for obvious holds on linebackers? Yeah, okay. But ultimately, Jacksonville gave NE this game. The Patriots didn’t really win it.

Why has Bortles become ineffective this half? Im still looking at the end of first half. They committed stupid penalties that gave NE the ball back. Then they committed stupid penalties that allowed NE to score. That changed the entire game.
  18. Yes. I’m envisioning someone like Quinn from UnReal cackling at the at the TV monitors. It’ll be interesting whenever Jackie and Ryan have a conversation about the fiancée. If they ever do. And, yes, I’m confused. Did Jon and Molly do the do or not?
  19. You’re right. But Matteo declared his love in the message. And Jeff acted like he never got it—which he might not have. I wish they would just talk about it.
  20. I just did a spit take all over my iPad. If it gets ruined, humbleopinion, I’m sending you the bill. LOL
  21. I’m sure the producers were salivating at the idea of putting these two together and watching the drama unfold. Maybe I’m too cynical after watching ‘UnReal,’ but I can imagine a producer encouraging Shawniece to be bold and sexual to help bring Jepthe out of his shell. All while knowing this would be a huge turn-off for him. And, Shawniece, will you please stop crying?? Not every single emotional moment warrants tears. Loved your entire post. I also think Shawniece can make an effort to try to get to get to know who Jepthe is as a person, not just a talk glass of water with a penis who will help quench her 14-month drought. If they BOTH said, “Let’s pretend we’re on a first date. What do you like to do? What’s your favorite TV show? What is your favorite color, since you brought it up?” Right now they’re feeling the pressure to be head over heels in love and horny, and that’s just not realistic. Which is is why I did like the pre-honeymoon sessions, where couples had a chance to bring up some early issues. And I like that the couples are all honeymooning in the same place. It will be good for support and camaraderie. But I also wonder if the couples will compare themselves to one another too much? Have there ever been interracial couples on the show??
  22. They kind of already did. In a flashback, we see that she used drugs first and persuaded clean cut William to use them. He was dead set against drugs but became vulnerable after his mother died. So William’s drug use is already Randall’s mother’s fault.
  23. Jortles! His fake name was Jake Jortles, chosen after Eleanor told him he could not call himself Blake Bortles.
  24. But Jeff broke up with Mateo. He said he and his ex got back together. I know Mateo broke up with Jeff first, but then he left that message during the tornado declaring his love. Unless Jeff never got the messsge. Dina doing the surrogacy thing? For Glenn and Jerusha? This will be hilarious.
