In the US, token can mean (especially with people of color), that someone is added in just to make it seem diverse. So a TV show could have a cast of white people and then a token black guy, or token asian guy. It's a way to make something seem diverse when it isn't. The better way to describe it would be a cameo by Morgan Freeman.
