  1. Yes, it is a match made in - well it is a good match. They are equally enamored with themselves and each other. I think it was Michelle who brought them deeper into religiosity and Jim Bob gleefully agreed. She is certainly not a helpmeet in the ways Fundies define it. I think Michelle found out early on, by the 5th kid or so, that this wasn't working for her, hence the buddy system. I think the buddy system was really a buddy thing in the beginning, like helping in the mornings, or getting ready to leave the house, a hand holder in the community, etc, then evolved into sister moms as the 4 oldest become but capable. Michelle went from having helpers to having home grown Au Pairs.
  2. I give them a pass on this. They were trying to express the unfairness of this being public. What other language could they use? Whether one was aware they were being abused or not, it is still not cool to have it blasted all over the internet for the world to see. I agree with the girls - they were re-victimized.
  3. One of the 'commentators' suggested the reader look up Jim & Elizabeth Elliott, so I did. Sad story. Also, I see why they need financial supporters; $300.00 a week to stay there? Yikes!!
  4. Looks like Hannie may have had the chicken pox.
  5. Totally agree. There isn't even casual structure, like lunch is at this time, dinner at that time, bedtime routine, etc. The kids probably don't even have a concept of morning, afternoon and evening.
  6. Well for one I am distracted by his knees.
  7. They think that is an appropriate place for a baby to sleep? Too tiny, only front & top ventilation. My goodness it looks like an umbrella stand. It has a cover!!!!!!!! This is so wrong. So many swears and no one to hear them ...
  8. So 3 in 4 Americans did read a book or more, with the typical reader reading 5. That is 75%, or according to the article 76%.
  9. The shirts do look small for them. It may be just a photo op, then the shirts go back on the rack.
  10. I'm surprised they allowed Jenny out in that dress without a T or tank under it. It is so lightweight with big arm holes. So much for modesty.
  11. Reading is so important. It makes me sad that we don't see these kids being read to by JB & M, or with their noses in a books. Especially with what appears to be an inadequate education. I would think more people than not, read leisurely.
  12. Just to add... I think Josh started one when he was like 16 or 17, if I recall correctly.
  13. The whole Marjorie and Josiah thing got me thinking. We all assumed the kids weren't allowed to have social media accounts until they were courting. Could it be, which I hope it isn't, but could it be that JB insisted they start to be active on social media to promote themselves when they began relationships? And if they are broken up I hope Josiah is okay. He seemed to go from a lively funny boy to a quiet and reserved young adult.
  14. Sew Sumi, so sorry for your loss. Losing a sibling is tough. It sucks that she didn't allow you and your other sister to be there for her.
  15. Haven't seen Marjorie in any of the events the Duggs have been too. So I do wonder. And isn't part of the deal with marriage that the guy has to be able to support the gal? Without the show Josiah may have little to no income.
  16. Yeesh, it sounds like if you work enough places in DC and are scandalous, you'd be all set for retirement in just a few years. It is like the many CEOs that go from companies to companies, mess up and get buy-out packages.
  17. I think that is a millennial thing Defrauder. My FB feed has many posts of dining out and food pics.
  18. Jellybeans, I grew up living next door to a school for the deaf, it is a day school. I won't say the name. My mom worked at the school so I ate there during lunch time and spent a lot of time there during the summer. When this school opened signing was actually discouraged. Most kids had double hearing aids with the transmitter worn harnessed on there chest. The classrooms were wired for sound and all teachers spoke with a microphone. The school is still there but it has evolved by leaps & bounds. Did you attend a school for the deaf?
  19. Who remembers Captain Kangaroo?
  20. School House Rock! Conjunction junction what's your function ... And After School Specials.
  21. Somehow when I was 10 or so I heard the word virgin. I asked my mom what it meant and she told me "An untouched forest". My friend and I asked our 6th grade teacher what a boner was. She laughed and walked away. We both had older siblings and were horrified when we found out what it meant.
  22. I would guess that 6 months of a DC salary would support them for longer in AR. It does seem that the Duggars are luckier than many when it comes to finances. The only folks I know that have lost jobs have to seek unemployment benefits which barely gets them through to the next job. In my next life I want to be rich or be one of you posters dogs. :)
  23. As with what Churchhoney says, the older kids seem to share their parents beliefs. As much as Jessa is seen as the outspoken bitch in the family, I also believe she is the most like Jim Bob. Some might quietly break away, as I believe the Bates girl who is married and lives in FL is doing. I think she is living life as a typical conservative Christian and not a Gothard quiverfull. I think whoever publicly breaks away will do so more for peace on mind than for financial gain. And if they did it for financial gain, the time would be now, and I don't think Jenny is able to take that on at her age.
  24. And the dreaded slide projection sexual education. Kokapetl, my town was a small town with 4 elementary schools, 2 middle schools and 1 high school. Once we reached middle school we could brown-bag it or eat in the cafeteria. My friend Cheryl lived the farthest from my K - grade 5 school. She lived more than a mile away. We were given an hour for lunch, obviously she had less time to eat than others.
