I just hope The Chad will be playing what I call an Intentional Asshole. He turns every character he plays into one anyway, so they should just make it on purpose. I'm also hoping the show will have a Big Death for the first season and he will be the corpse. In other, way better, news, Enver! I've loved him since Dollhouse and this is the final incentive I need to watch this show. He's such an amazing actor and I hope this is merely a stepping stone for him as he makes his way to becoming a huge star.

"The Daily Show": Week of 8/25/14
scarynikki12 replied to trow125's topic in The Daily Show With Jon Stewart [V]
Does Billy have any projects coming up? If so, I could see Jon choosing to wait and see if he'll stop by the show so they can have a belated wake. Or, since Jon will be doing press for Rosewater, he could be waiting for his next Letterman appearance so that the two can reminisce together. He and Robin seemed very fond of each other so it could also be that he took his death much harder than we expected and chose to contact the family and do his grieving in private. I'm not concerned. -
S05.E12: Taking This One to the Grave

The terminology may have changed but when I was in high school, early decision was the one that was binding and only for the dream school. No other applications go out until that school has responded. Early acceptance merely meant that the student applied to a small number of first choice schools and would only look elsewhere if they didn't get in to any of them. But, again, the terminology may have changed in ten years. -
A Thread for All Seasons: OUaT Across All Realms

Most shows have inconsistencies from the pilots. Very few manage high consistency after the pilot gets picked up. I think they did originally plan for Regina's motive against Snow to be the shallow one from the story. Then they were picked up, got to know Lana some more, and made the changes. I do kind of wish that Snow, at least, was under the impression that Regina was trying to kill her for being pretty and then learned about Daniel shortly before or after the Curse. I think Rumpel was also supposed to be way more of a consistent threat than he turned out to be. I don't know if he was originally the creator of the Curse or not, or if he was ever supposed to be anything other than evil, but I do think that, whatever the original plans for him, they got the series pick up and decided to embrace Robert and fleshed out the character beyond the pure evil entity the pilot presents him as. -
I think it was Gus, you're right. And it was the result of working with Quinlan and being led there if memory serves. I love that Hogan and Del Toro gave a hint as to what the Master would be doing once he takes over the world (farming the remaining humans) while also explaining why none had tried to take over prior. You're also right about the horror angle being well done. Once Kelly turns and starts coming for Zack and Eph it gets really scary. The mindless monster looking for her Dear Ones to make them like her is such a classic horror trope and well done here. I also love it when the team has to explore the subway tunnels and fight the vampires lurking there. There are so many things about vampires that are truly terrifying and Del Toro brings them to life so well.

Current Plots Discussion: Actually Today's Episode

I've always seen the return of Roman/Marlena, and all the insanity surrounding it (losing the only parent she'd known-John, who then replaced her with Isabella and Brady) as what really started Sami down her path of villainy. The affair and rape were just the two events that broke her to the point of no return. I tell myself that Sami focuses on the affair as her source of John/Marlena hate because it's a lot easier to be pissed at your mother for cheating than to admit that she was pissed about losing John, being replaced in his life, and then seeing him still want Marlena when he was making it clear that he no longer wanted Sami. Same with her Carrie hate. It's a lot easier for Sami to focus on Marlena preferring Carrie (which is certainly valid as Marlena showed this preference even before anyone knew what Sami was capable of) than to admit that her early issues with her sister stem from the fact that she knows that she was raped as a Carrie replacement and transferred all that anger and fear into a fixation on destroying Carrie. It's also easier for the show to focus on the affair and Marlena's preference as why Sami behaved the way she did but they (yet again) missed the boat on exploring the deeper reasons behind Sami's break with reality. Instead of having Sami fall for EJ, I would have liked to see her revisit Alan's rape and how that fucked her up. Instead of deciding she hated John again, I would have liked to see her finally admit how hurt and angry she was when he was removed as her father and then showed no interest in remaining in her life as a source of support (we know that he was initially destroyed at losing Carrie, Sami and Eric, but then the show decided he should move on and he did). In fact, I think it could have been really interesting to see Sami go to John for emotional support from time to time because she still didn't fully feel comfortable with Marlena and Roman. -

The timeline's even crazier when we consider that Ezra was shot since Halloween and had several weeks (per Aria a couple episodes into this part of the season) to recover and that's before the current crazy. So, technically, all the post shooting stuff has happened in just a few days (including Toby joining the academy). Rosewood really must have 48 hour days. Also, ever since Ali came back I've been getting more and more convinced that Aria is endgame A. I don't really know why I have this feeling but it's growing stronger with each episode. -
Abe did make the box and I've been waiting for that reveal. Quinlan is here!! He's right there with Fet, Gus and Abe as one of my favorite characters in the books. I need to reread book 1 because I can't remember if he's in it or not, though I'm more confident that the Master's, er, master plan isn't brought up until book 2 but these changes don't bother me. I don't know that we'll see much detail on the Master's plan this season or if it will just be hinted at. I can see the show introducing us to the Ancients like in the books, but that would most likely be a season finale type of scene and then the explanations of why the vampires haven't taken over the world before now, followed by their sudden deaths, would open season 2. If they wanted to go into all that detail this season, then fine, no objection from me, but they do need to devote serious time to the reveal when it happens. I think it's far more likely we'll end the season with the full horrifying image of the Master, ala the end of the first graphic novel adaptation, and then season 2 will get into the whys and hows of his plan.

I agree, that Bugs is an asshole without any of the charm later Bugs had. I also prefer later Daffy to early Daffy. Early Daffy was a lunatic who recently escaped the insane asylum while later Daffy was a sneaky plotter determined to win at everything. Later Daffy was absolutely delightful in this regard.

Every Bugs vs Daffy short was just heaven for me. Throw in a little Elmer Fudd and I'm set for a week.

My school didn't weigh grades, so no valedictorians but we do elect our class speaker. Rory being elected by her class for that honor would have made sense as she seemed decently liked but the way Chilton was presented I think we were to assume that she really did top them all academically rather than win a popular vote. Chilton is absolutely the school that wants to put its top students front and center whenever possible and that would include graduation. I don't know that an institution that refused to accept a car accident as a valid reason for missing a test* would allow their graduation speaker to be elected by the class. *Though they may have relented if Rory had a record of the accident rather than just her word. I definitely agree that Rory becoming the Yale editor was way harder to swallow, as was her joining Phi Beta Kappa. The Chilton valedictorian is a minor offense in comparison to the other two which just further prove that No One Was Better Than Rory. I'd far prefer to see her simply return to the paper as a writer, commit herself to her studies, and aim for graduate school. Let Paris keep the editor job rather than go insane and don't even mention Phi Beta Kappa. Plus, the other students writing for the paper would likely want that position themselves so everyone banding together and being all "let's give it to Rory!" didn't work. If Paris had to lose it, there should have been a fight for the job among the others and, yes, an advisor would have stepped in. Not to mention, Rory dropping out for a semester after being arrested would have been brought up immediately as a disqualifier rather than something that was no big deal. Right or wrong, the other students would have used that against her even if they didn't care outside of the paper.

Current Plots Discussion: Actually Today's Episode

The scenes of Abby vs Sami really makes me appreciate the Sami vs Carrie stories from back in the day. Every time Sami and Carrie went to battle, the acting was just brilliant, making those conflicts pop off the screen. No matter what side anyone chose the scenes were electric. The show also had the good sense to make the focus be on the sisters, rather than bringing Austin Peck to the forefront (can you imagine the horror of that block of wood trying to go toe to toe with Sami?). Alison and Christie played off each other so well that it made up for the things we didn't like about their characters. The Abby and Sami scenes don't have this. Alison is bringing the anger that is required but Kate isn't. Whatever the execution, this really was an opportunity for both the actress and character. If I were the showrunner and one of my leading actors decided to leave, I absolutely would incorporate lesser known characters into her exit storyline as a chance to gain them attention and, ideally, move them into the hole left by the departing actor. The problem is that Kate isn't up for the job. I think she's trying but she has her limits and they're very obvious. The biggest problem, for me, is that the show already tried to make Kate and Abby happen with Carrie's last exit storyline. It didn't work then but, for some reason, they thought it would work with Sami's exit story. It would have been one thing if Kate had stood her own against Christie and then the show thought they could replicate success, but Abby was cowering under Carrie's wrath when exposed and that's not the way to create a new leading (or even prominent supporting) character. Carrie had Sami's number and could reduce her to tears when exposing her, but Sami dried up fast if they weren't working to her advantage and went for different tactics. It was the dynamic of the two that made both of them so memorable. -
I don't think so. That RW must have been truly awful for them to re-do it, since they usually just accept it when they shitty food as it gives them fodder for Judge's Table.

I love that one! The various characters going to hell, meeting Satan and getting more chances to defeat their nemeses is one of my favorite recurring LT themes.

Fandom and Viewer Issues: "Fan" Is Short for "Fanatic"

Rumpel fills that trope with Belle. -
I agree. If it were from a reputable journalist, rather than one who hates anything liberal (and sees unions as such, even though there are plenty of conservatives who are Teamsters), then it would be a story. I think they're just trying to get some attention.

Fandom and Viewer Issues: "Fan" Is Short for "Fanatic"
scarynikki12 replied to Emma's topic in Once Upon A Time
Like FurryFurry said, if one of them were male they probably would be each other's love interests. It's been a staple of daytime soaps for decades and has been the core of popular ships on any number of primtime shows. It's gross no matter what the genders at play are and I certainly don't think it's a reason to support a pairing between Emma and Regina, but I can understand this specific argument. Pretty Little Liars is the only show that comes to mind where this gross behavior has been applied equally to the lesbian relationships (Emily was bullied by Ali and almost drowned by Paige) and hetero relationships alike (Ezra's a proven pederast twice over and stalked the Liars, and Toby was on the A Team). I get the argument when we look at the entire televisions landscape but a gross pairing is a gross pairing, no matter who is involved. -
The actor who played Mitchum is blond in real life. Leann Hunley, who played Shira, is a bottle blonde. She's stuck with the same shade for the last 20-30 years but it's definitely not her natural color. Still, Logan being a natural blond isn't unlikely no matter what Shira's natural color is supposed to be.

One is the Loneliest Number: Unpopular GG Opinions
scarynikki12 replied to mstaken's topic in Gilmore Girls
I agree and I even think that the elder Gilmores looked worse and worse as the series went on. In the first couple of seasons, they came across as wanting to connect with Lorelai in the way she'd always wanted but were too afraid and set in their ways to make the necessary steps. This made the instances when they did connect (even the Office Depot ad of season 2) all the more special and made me think that the relationship would continue to improve and the series finale would be the last step to them being on good terms permanently. Then the show just amped up the drama of that relationship, likely believing that it would boost the ratings, but it had the effect of making me wonder why the hell I was supposed to root for these three people to fix their relationship. It seemed like the Gilmores absolutely hated Lorelai and only put up with her because of Rory. When Lorelai told Emily "we're done" at the end of the vow renewal I cheered her on (though I knew she'd return to FND because I've seen television before) because I was just over this relationship and wanted them to go their separate ways. -

Monster Movie, aka the scarynikki12's One True Episode

That's exactly what happened. The year of the Oprah couch jumping is the same one where Tom fired his long time PR people and replaced them with his sister. He then replaced her with more competent people less than a year-ish later. I guarantee that his original people and the ones who replaced his sister would never have advised him to behave the way he did on Oprah and the Today Show. They probably see more of his crazy than we ever have and know it's best to keep it under wraps. If he hadn't hired his sister, I might still be a fan but his behavior that year turned me off for good.

Easily my favorite moment of the series right there.
