Unpopular Opinions: The Cheese Stands Alone
scarynikki12 replied to WhoaWhoKnew's topic in Beverly Hills, 90210
I think Kelly's attitude toward/about Brenda had many parts to it. Being the one Dylan cheated with practically the second Brenda left town, after spending the two previous years in a serious relationship with her, had to leave her aware that he would do the exact same thing should either of them go on a trip without the other. She also knew that Brenda had ended the relationship instead of Dylan. Timing was a major contributor to being chosen. Brenda wasn't allowed to go to Jack's get together, leaving Kelly and Dylan alone for the first time in a while. Kelly knew that Dylan was sexually attracted to her and likely thought that superseded any rational thought that night. If Dylan had been the one to dump Brenda, waited a few weeks before going to Kelly, and not waffled about how he felt about either girl, then Kelly would have felt much more secure. The way he behaved and her own guilt about betraying Brenda left her an insecure mess that manifested in anger, judgement and mistrust. I think the reason she tended to aim those feelings at Brenda is because Brenda was ultimately really great about it. She was angry at first but then sucked it up and not only stayed in Kelly's life but didn't retaliate and worked to keep the friendship alive. Kelly's better when dealing with those she views as black hat villains (see: Valerie) and can't deal with the grey. -
Has Hayden Christensen learned to act since the prequels? That's an honest question as I haven't seen him in anything else. I know it's possible as the prequels brought out the worst in everyone so, if he can act outside them, then having him be an angel on Ren's shoulder could be really interesting. If he's still really bad then I'd rather they find a Sebastian Shaw doppelganger and have him do it.

Not that producers are above lying but I think Williams' lack of availability rules out Lando as being family to Finn. Whoever Finn is related to is going to be significant enough that they'll spend time on it, so not Lando. I do selfishly hope that Williams is up for a cameo so we can check in with Lando/see what happened to him. Mace was a dedicated Jedi so I can't see him having a lady on the side, which rules him out as a direct connection to Finn. That said, we have no idea if Lando or Mace had siblings, so Finn could be a nephew of either. I have a feeling that Finn will be related to a character from the original trilogy. I don't think we're meant to forget the prequels but I also think that Abrams won't want to directly remind us of them either, hence Corusant not being that one planet like so many of us thought*. Mace, as much as I like him, was a prequel only character so I don't expect to hear his name at all, much less in connection to Finn or anything in these new movies. *Which totally disappoints as I was amused at Abrams metaphorically destroying the prequels by destroying Corusant.

I can buy Ben being the name. Leia knew who he was and admired him based completely on reputation, as evidenced by her asking for his help and rushing to find him on the Death Star in Episode IV, so I can believe that she would name a child after him. Han is a bit harder as he was skeptical of Ben and the Force when they first met in IV but he came around on the Force so I can buy that he also came around on Ben's importance in general and to Leia. Plus, in terms of the narrative, the current Big Bad Dark Side of the Force Character being named after Light Side of the Force Jedi works really well. I'm cool with it. That said, if Han had yelled out 'Bail!' I'd have loved it.

I expect this was left hanging intentionally and will be explored/explained in subsequent movies, along with how the blue light saber was recovered from Cloud City after Vader severed Luke's hand. Abrams likes to leave questions to be answered later and Kasdan is too good at writing Star Wars to have overlooked those bits.
-
I'm not going into details because it's almost midnight but I thought the movie was really good.

Cabin In The Woods has a white board that lists various demons and monsters. One of the names on the list is Kevin. You cannot convince me that isn't Kevin from Home Alone all grown up. That said, I also have a nostalgic fondness for that movie. I miss John Candy.

I don't want a prequel I want a miniseries. A miniseries would allow us to see all the details that the movies couldn't/wouldn't include like Madge, Haymitch, Katniss and Peeta training like Careers before the Quell, learning about Haymitch's games, and everything Katniss goes through after Prim dies. It would also allow the opportunity to flesh out characters like Prim and Gale, giving more of an impact to the former's death and the latter's ruined friendship with Katniss. So we're getting a prequel instead.

When Manning and Choi were trying to save Miller's life they share a look just before time of death was called. It wasn't romantic but had a lot of intensity and I'd like to see that built upon. I can't really explain it well but I got a feeling that a relationship between the two would be much more interesting than the goofy one being set up with H2.0. Choi being hot and funny just makes it sweeter.
-
I know the show is pushing Manning with Halstead 2.0 but I really liked the intense look she shared with Choi and would rather explore that option. Choi's hot and funnier than H2.0.

TDS 3.0: Season One Talk
scarynikki12 replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in The Daily Show With Trevor Noah (2015-2022)
Seeing Kenny Specht alone at that table breaks my heart, and I pride myself on being a heartless bastard. As happy as I am to see Jonny-bun I'm still teary. Well done Jonny and Trevor. The callback to the Leno/Conan craziness was funny. I think EndTheFuckery is an excellent hashtag by the way.- 1.9k replies

Here's why I think we didn't get any resolution on Merida or the Camelot characters. I think they're considering pulling a Zelena and keeping one or more of them for 6A. I do think we'll see them at least once in 5B, since Merida has the booze that lets her talk to dead people (aka, booze), but it will be the final test for the producers before they sign any of the actors to more permanent roles. Part of the reason I think this is Elsa from 4A. She was well received and a lot of us wanted to keep her. We couldn't, of course, as Disney only loaned out the Frozen people for that half season and intend to make more money off them so the lead can't be on television. I think they (Once, not Disney) were hoping for a similar reaction for Merida and/or the Camelot crew but, this time, there's an option to keep the one(s) who are well received. From what I've seen, I'd say that Arthur (the actor), Gwen and Lance (the characters) were the best received while Merida was...not. So, hypothetically, if they decide to sign any of that group, I'd expect Arthur to stick around (maybe to take Rumpel's place as the general shit stirrer if Carlyle really did only sign for 5 seasons, on a redemption tour if Carlyle sticks around, or to displace Robin and give Regina a love interest who might actually make sense), Gwen and Lance to stick around long enough to wrap up their story while pitching in on whatever happens in season 6, and Merida to go home super fast at the end of 5B.

Have hope! They can always just leave him behind! Of course, why Emma would be ok with Henry joining them when earlier she was ready to cover his ears to keep him from hearing Rumpel explain the Dark Ones and what they were doing I don't understand. Regina I get, as she probably thinks Henry is safer with her in literal Hell than in Storybrooke where he can live his life and the fairies can protect him. Right there with you my friend. In the season premiere they made a big deal about how Regina couldn't use the wand because she's no longer evil enough, thus bringing Zelena into the fold, yet tonight she had no trouble wielding it (and Robin's dumb enough not to pick up on that). Combine that with her projecting her lust for power onto Emma (which was proven false each time it was brought up), and I hope we might get to see her return to being the Big Bad. I don't think there's any chance that we're supposed to see Belle as anything other than pathetic (in a sad and naive way, not in a disparaging way) for running back to be with Rumpel while he keeps his reinstated Dark One status from her. If all the speculation over the years is right, and Carlyle only signed for five seasons, then this may be setting up Rumpel's final downfall. I'm not to fussed about no one telling Belle yet since it looks like they went straight to the lake after Emma threatened him but they need to tell her first thing when they return. Serial killer groupie she may be, but she still deserves to know. And I LOVE that Emma blackmailed Rumpel. Before this season started one of the consistent discussions revolved around how Emma should use her time as Dark One to finally think of HERSELF and what SHE wants rather than constantly focusing on the needs and welfare of the ungrateful asshats (save Hook) she interacts with each day. It's about damn time that Emma says, "I found a way to save Killian and I'm doing it". Rumpel didn't have to agree but, as Hook pointed out, he values his power more than he ever will Belle so he's going along with it to avoid having another (short lasting, come on Rump you of all people know that she gets over her anger with you less than a day later) fight with her. The only misstep there was Emma not making Rumpel go first on the water so that she could monitor him and guarantee he wouldn't stay behind, but he did follow her so I guess he maybe fears her magic more than I thought. The Buffy was strong in this episode. I like Hook and his relationship with Emma just fine but I'm not a wreck like I was back when Becoming Part 2 first aired, so I'm fine. Of course, I don't think anything has wrecked me like that episode, so that's not a knock on what Once did. Now, if they had busted out the McLachlan my residual Buffy feels would have bubbled to the surface and I would have reacted as I cannot listen to that song without remembering how I felt watching that episode unfold. I am eternally grateful that they didn't go there. I did roll my eyes at Emma quoting her parents but I also laughed at how in your face it was. We still haven't seen the third "as you wish" so I'm starting to think that will come from Emma shortly before her and Hook have their proper TLK. I agree that we saw one tonight, removing the Darkness from Emma and Hook. I think the rainbow only happens if the curse that's being broken doesn't have a visual effect. If, say, Hook falls under a Sleeping Curse at some point and Emma kisses him, then we'll see the rainbow. Removing the Darkness already has a visual effect so the rainbow isn't necessary.

Magic, Enchantments, and Curses: Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo
scarynikki12 replied to ElectricBoogaloo's topic in Once Upon A Time
I really hate that non-magical characters are able to use magic. What Rumpel did should have been magic of extreme power that only an experienced user like himself pre-S5, Regina, or Emma could have wielded. Instead, he was able to use that potion with little issue. I also call BS on Rumpel even devising/mixing such a potion in the first place, as he never envisioned the scenario we saw tonight. I know, I know, Contrivance was at play as he always shows up in the Once finales but it's still so aggravating. In addition, if anyone, even the 100% powerless, can use any magic, then why aren't we seeing every character taking magic lessons? From what we've seen, the Onceverse isn't the Potterverse. With Potter, people are either born with magic or they aren't. Muggles that wield enchanted objects experience severely negative consequences that have to be sorted out by fully qualified witches and wizards from the Ministry of Magic. With Once, some people are natural practitioners (Zelena, Emma, the fairies), some need to be taught (Cora, Regina) and some benefit from being imbued (Rumpel, Hook), but all can use magic in exactly the same way, and often with the exact same results. There's no indication that the dwarves, the Charmings*, Henry, Belle, or Random Townie #7 can't become practitioners of magic yet the most any of them do is use a potion or spell when the established practitioners aren't available. In short, the world building on this show sucks. I'm playing Captain Obvious, I know, but it bears repeating. *As an aside, I wish Snow's story this season had been her using the magical knowledge that Isaac gave her in the AU. They may not reference those two episodes but we know the characters retained their memories of that time so Snow should still remember how to use magic and be pretty good at it. If Snow had i̶g̶n̶o̶r̶e̶d̶ kept her distance from Emma this half season because she was working on her magic so that she could help remove the Darkness that would have been cool. -
Tomorrow Today: Media & Behind The Scenes Of LOT
scarynikki12 replied to Trini's topic in Legends Of Tomorrow
Having her arms unencumbered would be an asset for Caity in her action scenes and, if she does enough of them, she shouldn't be too cold. I think she was cold in the corset because it just exposed cleavage, which she (presumably, I don't know her life) doesn't use in stunt work. That said, I do hope they keep everyone properly clothed and warm in between action scenes. I've never been to Canada but I've been to New York in January and that place is COLD! So I assume that Vancouver winter is similar if not worse since it's farther north. -

The man danced on a giant keyboard in Big. He will be missed. -
For a second I though that was Clayface and was confused because I can't imagine him ever being the Big Bad of any DC movie (much less one that has Bats, Supes, and Wonder Woman). A helper, sure, but not THE Baddie.

I enjoyed Kendra very much and am excited to see her flying around kicking ass. I did not, however, like Hawkman. In fact, I think I'll be actively disliking him when LOT premieres, to the point that I'll be rooting for him to be the Obligatory First Season Death. I was previously convinced that it would be Heatwave but now I'll be hoping for Hawkman. I don't want to see my new girl Kendra saddled with that douche.

This thread is where you discuss the Legends of Today episode. This is not the place to discuss the general DCTV world, whether or not Felicity is a Mary Sue, behind the scenes speculation, the history of various Arrow characters, or anything that is not pertinent to the events of the episode. Looks like my initial assessment was correct and the nurses are my favorites. Maggie is walking the line between tough and kind perfectly, though I feel like the supervising MD should be the one making sure Med School (Reese?) knows how to do basic stuff like IVs. I probably wasn't pay as close attention as I should have, but, was the hearing loss on both ears? I initially thought it was one side but the doctors writing things down post op tells me it must have been both ears. I really liked the trauma attending and I'd like to see her again. She and Rhodes worked well together and were drama free. I want to hold on to that. They're obviously pushing Halstead 2.0 and Manning as a future couple, which I'm not a fan of because I want to know who they are before their personal lives start tangling up. As long as I get quality Maggie and/or April scenes each episode I'll stick with it.

S02.E11: Rise Of The Villains: Worse Than A Crime

Ha! I knew they'd write Morena's pregnancy into the show. If Barbara kidnaps the kid and keeps her long enough for her name to stick then I'll have accurately predicted a story! -
I want Sara to have hate sex with Snart. Just for the funsies. When she's ready to settle down they can get Nyssa to join the cast.

I know we saw Cressida again after the war ended, I want to say right before Katniss walked out to Snow's execution, but I can't remember the details.
