Herman is already a lieutenant and is taking the captain test. Mouch is taking the lieutenant test to get on the officer rung in the first place. So they’re not taking the same test and they’re not aiming for the same positions. There’s also been some discussion about how once you pass your officer test, you don’t necessarily get an assigned within your current firehouse. That came up when Stella became a lieutenant. There was not an officer slot available at 51 and she was going to be sent elsewhere. Of course, plot armor and the actresses contract kept her where she is, but they did acknowledge. They can’t just create a position. New officers are sent where they are needed, not necessarily where they want to stay. Regarding the parking, over the years, we have seen that be a problem for the firehouse. Whatever parking lot they have seems to be very small and most of the firefighters and paramedics use the street parking around the station. we’ve seen them come in grumbling about needing to park blocks away or how they need to move a car before a meter runs out, etc.

Wow! They really did revisit that storyline with Cruz from season one. I’m impressed. The show does not usually harken back to its own memories unless Kelly is unconscious and hallucinating about Shea.

I completely disagree. Missy is a child. An older child, but nowhere close to full grown adult. She and Mary can comfort each other, but ultimately Mary is the mother and the adult and it’s her responsibility to see to her children. It is not Missy‘s responsibility to support Mary. Not at this age. if Mary is struggling, then she can turn to her own mother and she can turn to her adult son. She can turn to the pastor at her church. But in the end, Mary has kids who have not left the nest and therefore she needs to pull herself together and be present for her daughter. From the little glimpses we’ve seen that isn’t happening.

And Mary continues to tick me off on another show. When she was telling Mandy that she was gonna put herself first, I was telling the TV that she has a minor child at home and she doesn’t get to do that yet.

I think in a lot of ways, Ava is exactly the kind of personality that the school needs to get what it needs. Gregory is a consummate professional but he doesn’t have Ava’s hustle or her ability to continually wheel and deal to get what she wants. I could see Gregory always going by the book and going to the district for needs but not getting anything and ending up incredibly frustrated in the process. Ava knows how to work the system in a way that he doesn’t and for all that she is annoying as crap to the staff, her unwillingness to take the “no“ does tend to work in their favor, most of the time.

This one was pretty good. I think they’re starting to find their footing. And it was nice to see Mandy’s parents not sniping at each other.

Seriously? They’ve come up with some “big bads” that are worse than a serial killer who staples people‘s eyes open? Did any of the writers used to work for Criminal Minds?

Not to mention, Karen was well aware that Hen is a firefighter. She has been since the day they met and her schedule has not been a secret. Hen was a firefighter long before they had children and if Karen has that much of an issue the time to bring it up was long before now.

I think Severide is dealing with a new boss and doesn’t have the relationship with him that he did with Boden so he’s going to be far more formal. And as far as criticizing Stella goes, it was a nasty comment but Pascal already made it clear that he wasn’t thrilled about having a married couple serving on the same shift. I don’t think Severide could have said anything without opening that can of worms.

I did, right through high school. My parents figured if that’s what I wanted to do for Halloween. They were gonna let me hold onto that childhood for as long as possible. There were plenty of other non-wholesome activities. I could’ve been up to.

I disagree with this one. Yes, egging the guy’s house was stupid. But *he* was the adult in the scenario, he’s been an educator for God knows how long and ought to have a good understanding of how teenage brains work and he was the one who chose to get in his car and wildly escalate the situation. I think it was pretty reasonable on the teenagers part not to assume that egging a house was going to lead to somebody’s death.

Another solid episode! I’m always a little leery when they’re focused on Torres, but pairing him with Cook was a good idea. I particularly liked the beat when she came into the squad room Ruzek pointing her to the desk and Burgess telling her she could borrow some dry clothes, just the look on Cook’s face made it clear that she wasn’t used to being treated very nicely by her coworkers. It was a nice, low-key and subtle touch.

Oh Carver. Don’t you have an inkling of how to recognize crazy by now? Or are you being deliberately self-destructive?

Violet said something very hurtful to Carver last season, accusing him of being in love with Stella. It was heat of the moment, and she felt awful afterwards, but it was a terrible thing to say, and Carver rightfully dumped her.

That bugged me from the beginning of this whole storyline. All Hen had to do was call up Taylor and say ‘hey I’ve got a story about governmental corruption, can you please get this on the air ASAP?’

From what we’ve seen of Eddie‘s parents, I wouldn’t be surprised that the outcome is both. They want a do-over and if Eddie comes out there to retrieve Christopher, I’m willing to bet there’s going to be some sort of a custody hearing in court. Which is just awful of the parents! Yes, at the beginning when Christopher was deeply shocked and upset, giving him and Eddie some space was probably a good thing. But there should’ve been a very firm timeline for Christopher to return home, start the new school year and begin some serious family therapy with his father. These are grandparents, not the parents. And I will be delighted if we see Buck be the one talk some sense into Chris.

Twins! Surprising absolutely nobody. I expect us to see some good freak outs next week, though. If I’m Jo and Link, I would be legit losing it. Four kids in diapers. Four car seats to fit in a car. Two cars actually, since their schedules don’t always align. Figuring out the stroller situation for four. Four of them not sleeping through the night. And my goodness, the way viruses will wreak havoc in that household! Not to mention as the children grow up you have three that live in the home full-time and one (Scout) who’s 50-50 between parents. Can’t imagine Scout’s not going to have some feelings about that 10 years down the line!

For all that this show is insane, and it is, they really do a great job of showcasing adult communication and interaction.

Given the nature of the intervention and the outcome of Violet’s decision, I don’t know the news agencies would say much. It’s really hard to vilify the outcome of a healthy baby and a family that’s grateful for her actions. And I’m not sure the Alderman actually said anything to the medical board, I got the impression it’s that he showed up with the family and media that made the board consider their decision carefully. Not that he actually spoke to them.

I actually kept yelling at the TV that she needs to call Brett and see if Matt has any contacts left that he could reach out to.

I was shocked that nobody else at the table snapped that the question was highly inappropriate and never to be asked.
