  1. Are 'white parties' a thing in the Hamptons? They were parodies in "White Chicks" and there was an ep of "Gossip Girl" with a white party.
  2. I think they got two noms--one for wardrobe and can't remember the other. Cinematography?
  3. I think you can only see it via Amazon video in the UK. :( Please correct me if I'm wrong.
  4. It must really depend on the doctor's personality. A good friend is an oncologist and she's not at all arrogant. Confident, yes, but not arrogant.
  5. If Richard/Roger ever gets his own thread on this board, it needs to be something to do with chunky knit sweaters. :D
  6. I thought I saw someone accuse her of going into MS territory. Hard trying to keep up with this thread. lol
  7. This. ^^ Claire and Bree were close in the books and Frank wasn't always a perfect husband. There are flashbacks of her dealing with a cranky/sick baby Bree, their heat is broken, she's trying to get it fixed and he comes home and gets on her case that she looks like crap and why isn't dinner ready for their guests. Later when she's in med school and after dealing with a bad babysitter, he finally agrees to take her to the office with him when she's home from school. She was willing to drop out of med school. As far as her being a MarySue surgeon...Bree is of course going to brag on her mom. Not many women were doctors back then and you add a proud-of-her-mom daughter. We also find that she's got something 'extra' (Master Raymond mentioned it earlier in the season) with healing and diagnosing. Can't wait for the banter between her and Dr Abernathy. :D Frank and Bree were close and we find out he made a point of her learning to ride, shoot, handle the outdoors, etc because in his research he found out something about her. I can't remember what, but he knew she was going to wind up going through the stones. I wonder why they had her as a history student at Harvard when in the book she's an engineering major at MIT? The engineering thing is a big part of who she is. She loves to tinker with and invent things. I want Bree's wardrobe--minus the cords though. :D
  8. Oh, Roger and Fergus. How I love thee! Hopefully Sophie will improve while acting opposite such talented actors. Bree was a bit bratty (and sort of stayed that way until recently). Sort of felt that Roger took a lot of guff from her. He's got the patience of a saint. Rik really brought it.
  9. Sophie's acting was a little off, but I gather that she'll grow into the role (she's so pretty!). Glad she's got an American accent. Perhaps it's because Davina Porter narrates her as American that I like they included it. ;) Loved Richard as Roger. This show has done such a great job of casting unknown talent. It's been awhile since I've read DiA so the changes from book to TV didn't bother me. Yes, the MacKenzie research seemed out of the blue, but they had to cram a lot of stuff in. Don't think Claire went gray until later in the series, but they had to age Cait somehow. Loved Lotte and felt for her poor husband.
  10. Do you have the link? I could buy her as a mom to a 20 year old because I have some friends with kids in late teens and early 20s who have always looked young for their ages and you have to double take that they could have kids that old. lol Also, to your point, Claire's not roughing it anymore. She's had 20 years of modern medicine, dentistry, skin care, etc. Makes me think of the 29 year old woman she encounters in Edinburgh soon before meeting Jamie. The woman had almost no teeth and looked much much older.
  11. Oops! Just saw this. Sorry. We got back a little over a week ago. There were tons of news outlets set up in tents near Parliament when we were in London. We were still in Scotland when the vote happened and we really only got a sense of what our Scottish friends thought. Scotland, in general, voted to stay. Our friends are mostly ticked because this will affect ease of travel through Europe. Immigration wasn't an issue since they don't have to deal with much of it up there.
  12. Is it wrong that I'm liking Brooke (and her minions--the actresses who play Simone and Stephanie are comedy gold--they also need to bring back the little blonde who used to be part of her squad) and Lex? Jill seems like she's had three Red Bulls and is hopped up on cocaine. lol The BFF is veering in the stereotypical sassy sidekick character. The interesting characters are the ones we're not supposed to like. RIP Elliot. You were funny and made Vanessa interesting. Since I've already seen the first three eps, I guess I'll hang in there and see what happens.
  13. Am in Inverness and toured Culloden battlefield today. Visited many of the locations mentioned in the books. Awe inspiring. Apparently the guy playing the Prince is an amazing singer and has a band.
  14. As far as Mary's son (since it's already been mentioned here), he pops up, IIRC, in the most recent book and had dropped the 'Isaacs' off of his name due to his step-dad passing away. Would have liked to know of what became of Mary.
  15. That would be a fab twist of things. Willie wasn't in the books, but he was good actor and good character. Wouldn't mind seeing him again. I assume they may have had scheduling conflicts with the actor. As a devoted book reader, I'm not as strict as some.
  16. I want to see Willie in America!!
  17. I used to work with a guy who had British parents and they sent him to a vocal coach to sound American (he was partially raised in England). I was floored to learn he was English. He was the most southern sounding guy. lol On the other hand, my BFF's parents were born and raised in Israel and kept their accents, but she is US born with no trace of their accents. I guess it depends. I imagine that Bree would be more like my best friend with foreign born parents with accents but born and raised in the US. In the audiobooks, she's voiced with an American accent by the narrator, the talented Davina Porter.
  18. Just started watching "When Calls the Heart" on Netflix. I think it takes place in 1910 in the Canadian coal mines and has Lori Laughlin.
  19. I've read all the books though it's been awhile. I don't think Frank believed her, at least not for awhile, until he dug into her claims and may have found evidence of Bree in the 1700s which would be during his Harvard time. When C comes back (in the book) she's malnourished, dehydrated, hysterical and in weird clothes. He probably thought she'd been abducted by a cult a la Kimmy Schmidt and brainwashed thus giving her a pass on being pregnant and claiming devotion to this other man. He also mentioned he didn't want to be the last stop on his family tree (devastating to a man so obsessed with history and his own lineage) which is another reason to raise Bree, and then she was born and he fell in love with her for her own sake. Though I'll always prefer Jamie with Claire, Frank is not a total villain and Claire is not perfect.
  20. Yes! Donate those clothes to a museum or Jacobite historian. I bet his professor friend would have loved to have them. I died a little inside when he burned them. :'(
  21. Does anyone follow her on Instagram? Her feed makes me feel the need to up the intensity of my workouts. Holy cow, CCB!
  22. Has anyone seen "Bomb Girls"? I discovered while browsing on Netflix. It follows several women who worked in bomb factories during WWII.
  23. I assume they didn't know how popular it would be on Netflix and maybe the budget wasn't big enough to bring everyone in or scheduling issues. The adults from the old show only signed on for cameos so that could have been an issue, but it's been renewed. Maybe we'll get more. Someone pointed out Danny not being at the renewal. If he and Becky are co-hosts, the powers that be at the LA station probably wouldn't let it happen. Look at most morning shows. You never see all of the regular hosts away at the same time, so I'll give them a pass for that. You wouldn't see "Kelly & Michael" without at least Kelly or Michael. Regarding the twins, do we know they go to school in the bay area? Maybe I missed that. I'm willing to give this show some of a pass since it seemed that they weren't sure how popular it would be. Steve is a bit annoying. lol
  24. I thought Sybbie could be presented if she had an aristocratic sponsor? Marchioness Edith could always sponsor her esp since she's her aunt and Sybbie is half aristocrat. Of course "Mr Selfridge" is just a TV show so I don't know how much is based on reality and not, but Lady Loxley presented Selfridge's daughter at court. The daughter was getting snubbed at school and thought the other girls would treat her better if she had been at court.
  25. I thought that after (maybe during) WWII, they stopped presenting at court as the monarchs thought it seemed ridiculous in light of what was going on. How old would Marigold be in that era? Being presented at court lost its importance. I would think that Edith would make Marigold the inheritor of the mag and the money she inherited from Gregson--which seems substantial.
