I had to remove my glasses for my most recent driver's license, and I have never had to before. Must be a new thing.

And the name is spelled normally. That's a nice change.

I took this picture this morning. No snow in the forecast the rest of the week, and it is in the 40's this afternoon. It was nice not to have to clear the driveway this morning!

Thank goodness she is not going into nursing. Her math skills are not so good, as I recall from one of her posts. Nursing is not a job where guessing is a good or safe idea.

At my former house, paying for city garbage collection was mandated. I had a neighbor that would wait until after dark the night the cans were out for collection, and she would use neighbor's cans for her weekly garbage so she didn't have to pay for garbage collection. She was pretty upset when our collection time was moved to later afternoon, so everyone put their cans out in the late morning. The HOA finally caught on to her and required her to pay for her own garbage collection. She was not happy. i now live where we have bears, but the garbage company will not allow any type of locks or ties on the cans. Having your house number on your can is a good idea here, too. I have found my big wheelie bin a block away thanks to the wind. The garbage can commercial is dumb, in my opinion.

Commercials That Annoy, Irritate or Outright Enrage
CalicoKitty replied to Maverick's topic in Commercials
I have feelings of sadness over the commercial showing parents at their child's band/orchestra concert. Believe me, I know how painful those concerts can be--I taught elementary music for many, many years and have attended too many to count. I just feel awful thinking that children are seeing these commercials and might get the idea that their parents really do not want to listen to their beginning music "performance". Parents need to show excitement and encouragement to their children. The takeaway for children may be that their parents really don't want to attend, or that their playing is a waste of time. -
It was -5 degrees when I went to a Dr. appointment this morning. But the sun was shining in a beautiful sky, the mountains are covered in snow, and the roads are clear and dry. It is up to 18 right now, and we are supposed to hit 40 this afternoon. I would just like the snow to melt off the roof. I'm resigned to the snow on my lawn. It will be there for months, I think. We are supposed to get rain later this week, but I'm hoping no more snow for a while. The snow and moisture records have already been broken. Stay safe and warm, everyone.

Worst Cooks In America - General Discussion
CalicoKitty replied to Aethera's topic in Worst Cooks In America
The sad part for me is that I think Ann is a very good teacher. I would much rather learn more from her than see all the stupid antics, and all the over-the-top "students". I don't need all the games and silly activities. I would like to see more serious teaching and learning. When did this show turn into a food circus? -
In the city where I used to live, I saw two long-established restaurants have to close down because of ADA lawsuits by the same person. There is one person that deliberately goes to restaurants and hotels and files law suites over very tiny situations. In the instances I know about, the owners offered to make changes, but actually had to close down because the costs of this guy's demands were so high. These were both historical buildings. My point is, it only takes one person with a mission of winning law suits to destroy a business. I certainly hope whoever is in charge of the remodel of this inn did their research.

If it should happen to rain a few drops in California during the summer, you see people wearing their winter coats--complete with hoods--and carrying umbrellas. It can be 90 degrees, but rain, no matter how little, means winter, so it must be cold. I agree that different people have different temperature tolerances. That being said, I still would't play in the snow in flip flops. I just hope the kids have a choice of shoes and clothing available, and they are not expected to go out in the snow underdressed,

I'm so happy they found a solution for your Xray issues. My problem isn't gagging, it is getting the holder into my mouth--and out again. I have a kid-sized mouth and jaw, but have to use adult films. I hate having dental Xrays. It is always a production. I actually had an endodontist tell me he hoped he never had to work on me again. He didn't.

I wish someone would make snowmen in all the snow on my lawn. I still have at least a foot on the ground, with a 5 foot pile from the snow plow next to my driveway. More snow this weekend.... It looks like the boys had fun making their snowman. I used to love playing in the snow when I was at my aunt's house.

I'm not sure when the term went out of fashion, but I grew up hearing and seeing it wedding announcements all the time as I was growing up. I grew up in the Central Valley in California. I'll have to dig through my files, but I'm pretty sure the term was in my mom's wedding announcement in the 1940's in Iowa, and maybe even my grandma's in the 1920's. It was just an honorific for the bride that has been dropped from fashion. I hope this is written without mistakes. My big cat, Flora, insists on trying to walk on the keyboard to help me type.

Well, Christine did encourage Ysable (however you spell it) to run full speed across the room and jump into the Christmas tree--and posted the video. So, I would agree that her mothering skills need some work.

I know my stove has a Sabbath mode that can be set one day to turn on the next. I've never used it, but I think it is a common setting on stoves made in the last 10 years or so. I don't think the kitchen is really that much of a problem if they do a few modifications. They seemed pretty easy going. I liked that family. They did not want to gut everything.

Probably her her lack of education. She would have to start with remedial classes. Also her confidence and sense of imagination, which was squashed by her parents.

Josiah and Lauren: He Has To Marry Somebody
CalicoKitty replied to frenchtoast's topic in Counting On
I have always thought that Josh named Madyson as a weird joke. Also as a way to put Anna down and to be a constant reminder to her that he can do whatever he wants (I guess that joke is on him). After all, he is her umbrella, and she must be obedient. There are plenty of nice "M" names they could have used. -
Josh & Anna Smuggar: A Series of Unfortunate Events

I would think she would need an adult accountability partner, even with her children in tow. How would she handle having to call AAA if she needed help? -
I have watched both seasons, and I have read that there will be a 3rd one. I love Inspector Lewis and Morse. PBS has a program called "Mrs Wilson" that is a true story about a man with surprise multiple families. I found it very interesting.

Yesterday was actually a "good" weather day--we only had hard rain with a lot of flooded roads. The snow just started again right now. We are supposed to get a "break" for a couple of days, and then another storm is rolling in Saturday for I don't know how many days. The forecast looks like at least a week. I had an appointment yesterday, and it was interesting driving in the rain while dodging the snow mounds left by the snow plow. I had a huge lake in my side yard yesterday, but it had all drained in a couple of hours. I did have an appointment out of town today, but I rescheduled for later in the month. Who knows, we may have 6 feet of snow by then (gosh, I hope not). I'm beginning to think it was a good thing I renewed my flood insurance. Our rainfall is not as bad as what I have read about in California. All their rain will certainly bring on lots of thick fog, which is so dangerous. At least all the lakes will be nice and full this spring (I need to find at least one positive.) Everyone, stay safe, warm, and stock up on batteries and flashlights. (Has anyone who has Acorn TV watched "The Other One"? It is really funny.
