S09.E02: Duggar Daughter Dates
LazyToaster replied to JerseyGirl's topic in 19 Kids And Counting [V]
The whole courtship and chaperone thing is beyond bizarre to me. Do these young adults not realize that they are - well, young adults? They are of age and they don't really have to go along with this made up culture. Incredible that nobody has said uh, no thanks. Yet. -
19 Things I Hate About You: How the Duggars Infuriate
LazyToaster replied to Ljohnson1987's topic in Counting On
We raised three kids and didn't have a lot of money, but we managed to buy them their own shoes. Hand me downs and garage sale items were fine, but everyone got their own shoes, even if they had to come from Wal-Mart. -
Did anyone else notice Katie Lee's shirt or sweater, I swear it had what looked like eyes or eyelashes right over her breasts. Very weird! I did like the stir fry segment.

She has a dimpled elbow! So much cuter on her than it would be on me... -

If this is how every day life is - then they are missing out on one of the nicest parts of parenting young kids, the whole fresh from the bath, snug in jammie's and cuddling before saying good night routine can be so sweet. -
I think FN probably couldn't let him go to the NY Food & Wine show (hope I called it the right thing) because it was too soon after all the negative attention. I also wouldn't be surprised if the real FN stars didn't say keep him away from us! Imagine being them and having to play nice, act like everything is fine, pose for pictures, all with Chef Weird Lenny!

Josh & Anna Smuggar: A Series of Unfortunate Events

I definitely would fly first class if given the opportunity - might even take a picture - hey, look at me! :o) The baby looked cute didn't he? -
You know, I think this could be a good show if they would just dial it back - a lot. They are kind of cute together but the yelling, yikes! I don't know why they do that, it must be producer driven.

Ok, this is not as upscale as Ina would do... But, on one of the cooking shows (can't remember which one) they made waffle batter from a brownie mix for dessert. Looked yummy to me, but I may have just been craving chocolate. It was said to make the brownie batter according to the box plus add one egg, then cook in the waffle iron. I was thinking it would be great served warm with ice cream. Ok, where's my chocolate?

You know those big electric roasters like they use for church dinners? A couple of those would cook a lot of food for big groups like this. I am just surprised that since they try to convince us how frugal they are that they haven't come up with a better way to serve big meals.

I just want to know where someone wearing pink camouflage plans to hide. -
The Lonely Js Club: James, Jackson & Johannah

I knew a girl (back in the 80's) who shared a wedding dress with her sister (they wore the same size). They got married within a year of each other and decided to buy one really nice dress they both loved and then changed up the look. One girl had a traditional veil and a train and the other girl removed the train and had a simple veil. And of course everything else was different. I didn't attend either wedding, but saw pictures and they totally pulled it off. ETA, fixed typo. -
Flipping The Block - General Discussion
LazyToaster replied to David T. Cole's topic in Flipping The Block
I have a ceiling like that. In my 1956 house. In the basement. Difference is that I accept that it is just ugly and don't pretend otherwise. I hate that Curtis and Amanda (hope I got the names right) keep getting extra credit for making do on very little money. Not to say that isn't a good skill - but, they started out with the same money as everyone else and the only reason they ran out is because they mismanaged. I like Nicole on her show, but I don't think she was the right judge for this show. Imagine someone like Vern Yip, bet he wouldn't have stared at the rafters and then said I love it! -

This forum is way more interesting and entertaining this week than the Food Trucks! I promise to start yelling Sponge Bob Square Pants at the TV too. @walnutqueen, I agree... You go, girl! -
Hope I'm doing this quote thing right. If not, I followed the link to the NY event. Wow, that is going to be something. I would love to go to something like that. And yep, a bunch of FN people are listed, but not Lenny.

I suspect that at least part of the time the judges can detect which dish is Bobby's just based on style and flair. But, I would hope they try to focus on which dish they like best. Regardless, I like the show.

Maybe when the newness and shininess wears off everything Derrick will face up to certain things including the lack in Duggar education. I can't believe he won't want better for his own children.

I had those cookies growing up, seems like I remember they are not super sweet. Should be great in a recipe like that. -
I wonder if any of the adult kids still at home, with maybe the exception of JD, have any idea how to support themselves. That alone will keep them "down on the farm". Even if any of them would like to strike out on their own, since they haven't been educated beyond the home schooling and with little or no work experience, they probably would not know where to start. They can't just walk to town and say "I'm free", they would need to have a plan, a job, a clue... a life.

@Libby96 - your story was interesting - I have a similar one from my family. My late mother-in-law, who was born in 1925, had an antique cradle from her family, BTW, it is still in the family, all the babies in the family have their picture taken in it :o) Anyway - the story is that her great-grandfather and his wife bought it at an auction for their first child. The problem was, since it was their first baby it would have been improper to bid on the cradle because you didn't talk about being "in the family way". So, great-grandpa's older brother who already had a family bid on it for him. Now, that sounds so old fashioned to me and it isn't that I would say it is better; however, sometimes I wish things were not quite so open and since the Duggar family is so into modesty, it really seems odd to me that they talk so openly about cycles, pregnancy tests, etc.

I wonder if Lenny's show is on hold while they try to find people in the network that are willing to work with him. If I were any of the players, even if I personally thought he was ok, I would be really reluctant to get involved due to the negative things that came out and have been discussed online in such detail. If he hadn't gone so far as to name someone who currently has a show - maybe they could have just turned a blind eye. It is hard for me to believe that didn't ratchet up the potential problem. I would love to know what is going on behind the scenes in the FN Department of Damage Control. Maybe they will just give him his show as promised, but not let him work directly with anyone else and see how it goes and how it is received. It will be interesting to see.

The Shows of 2014: Because They've Been Pureed in a Blender
LazyToaster replied to halgia's topic in Chopped
It seems like I have seen them pour water through it when cleaning. Didn't seem complicated. But, even so, to me it is ridiculous to not have adequate equipment for the contestants. -
I could walk into Wal-Mart blindfolded in Oklahoma and come out with a cowboy more authentic than Lenny.

I wonder if Derrick is going to be one of those guys who constantly has his hands on her stomach. It is kind of sweet I guess, but I think it would bug me.
