  1. I’d be honestly surprised if I was the first to share this, but this is really kind of funny:
  2. I still squeal in this season when Skoda popped back in after a five-year absence without so much as a by-your-leave and he’s just hanging out like he was just there last week. Which he probably was, in-universe. Wonder if two-time Oscar nominee, one-time (and counting) Oscar winner JK Simmons might want to pop in again if possible? Season 20 was pretty good. I wouldn’t have been surprised at a cancellation notice around 17 or 18. Even 19. But I was surprised because the show seemed to be getting good again.
  3. Agreed. I did not mind Farina’s Fontana as much as I just missed Jerry’s Briscoe.
  4. I’ve always wondered how Shambala Green managed to truly justify it to herself in Sanctuary. If she truly believed her defense, she was admitting insanity or some mental deficiency on behalf of a POC and justifying a murder on those grounds. If she didn’t really believe it, she was truly a huge part of the problem.
  5. Van Buren must be protected at all cost and I will take no mention as a good sign that she and Ernie Hudson got married, won the lottery, and are traveling the world together right now. I would like to know how Lupo, Rubirosa, and Cutter are doing, however. If RL is any indication, they all may be somewhere other than we last saw them, considering how RL NYC has pretty much surrendered itself.
  6. What the hell? MELNICK became a judge? If that kind of BS is happening IRL, no wonder.
  7. I would love to hear that she’s fine and living her best life right now. And I would love to see her again as well. Van Buren has always been a great role model for women of all colors and she has always been one of mine.
  8. All of Briscoe’s, thought my least favorite is Briscoe/Logan only by default because I saw less of the them than the others. Green/Lupo and Lupo/Bernard kept me after the idea of DA Jack McCoy (and the combination of Rubirosa/Cutter) lured me back after I finally gave up during the Rohmbot era. I do think think Farina had a mountain to climb and anyone would have failed following Lennie Briscoe, though. With hindsight and analysis, I do find the idea of Farina’s character intriguing, but no one was ready for Lennie to be replaced even when it had to happen. I wonder if a special guest star detective of the week for that one season after Jerry’s departure might have worked better, especially with the solid stability of Ed Green and Anita Van Buren on the Law side and the relative stability of the Order side of the show at the time.
  9. *squee!!!!!!* I can’t wait! I honestly keep checking back to make sure I’ve still got it set to record. Between this and Murdoch Mysteries landing stateside a couple of days later, this is going to be awesome! As for Camryn and that remark, I prefer to see subtext that of course they need an Alpha female badass because the show got canceled rather than go on without their last one! I know season 20 was S. Epatha Merkerson’s last regardless, but that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
  10. I do agree with that, but I’m hoping he’s more a cross between Michael Westen and a Boy Scout. We need positive portrayals of police to inspire the next generation of police, as well as the truthful negative portrayals to inspire real reform in the system. Mothership did that in its original incarnation. Let’s hope it draws inspiration from itself and not its lesser spin-offs.
  11. Not here for regulars, especially if they decide to spring it as some kind of gotcha midseason finale for shock value or some other nonsense other series have to lower themselves to for ratings. I highly doubt anyone else would be interested in such a thing, but I would love to see a story of a cop who started out in the last decade with the very best of intentions, bought into the protect and serve oath, and then just was completely jaded by the system, the media, the police deaths, and the police and DA corruption around them. I hardly think this show would be brave enough to call out mainstream media, but I never thought at the time they’d be brave enough to call out certain *ahem* in the post 9/11 world and they did.
  12. This revival is going to have a tough needle to thread because we’re all going to hold it to a higher standard than its more sensational and inferior spin-offs. I see McCoy as a somewhat merciful DA, but there is no way he would stand for what’s happening right now in many large cities’ DA offices and that’s as far as I will go on that. As far as the NYPD, I would rather see honest, dedicated cops doing their best with what they’re handed, including busting their own without mercy if they need to. We need positive portrayals of the system these days, even if it is just Law and Order.
  13. I will admit that I am biased in favor of police in general, but there were definitely a good number of times I side-eyed every cop who had more than a line on this show due to attitude and/or actions and SVU was a non-starter with me after season one because they not only justified and glorified actions of the few bad apples, but continue to make it seem like it’s far more regular than it is in reality. But I am really hoping they explore how the last couple of years has affected the psyche of the police who remain dedicated to their jobs in the face of all the adversity they’ve faced, both fairly and unfairly.
  14. I don’t mind detectives letting off steam amongst themselves and each other, but while many of my favorites did skirt some lines once in a while, I never felt any of them truly crossed a line, unlike on SVU, Criminal Intent, and UnStabler no matter what show he was on. Being said, with police morale so low these days in general, I’m already steeling myself for more offensive material than Mothership had before, but Jeffrey Donovan can handle that kind of material without coming across as someone who never should have passed the psych exam let alone make detective. I’m hoping they steer clear of broader politics and focus on episodes case by case, which is when this show was always at its best. For Xfinity subscribers, 21.1 is now available to set to DVR! I’ve been stalking it for the past two weeks. As for any potential returning guest spots, I think I’d welcome just about everyone back they want to bring back.
  15. No. Please do not let SVU and *blech* Organized Crime pollute this comeback.
  16. To borrow a turn of phrase from another throwback, I’m SO EXCITED!! And SO SCARED!! There are so many ways they could mess this up given the state of Hollywood in general and the current Law and Order series in particular these days. But there is Waterston and Anderson, and Donovan, and the same sets. *crosses fingers* Please let everything else be the same, just updated.
  17. Abbie Carmichael is the DA we all need and deserve.
  18. I don’t know if this has already been noted, but given that it’s a credit to a white male character I’m going to assume that it hasn’t. Very last scene, when the phenomenal Eileen Atkins as Queen Mary curtsies to her granddaughter, Philip very clearly looks to Elizabeth like he’s checking or scoping or just checking on his wife who’s just lost her father. Matt Smith played that superbly, in the middle of an episode where the entire cast was at its best, including Vanessa Kirby as a completely spoiled, self-indulgent, selfish Margaret.
  19. Betty White’s 100th would be a small victory for me in a shitstorm of a year, so I will be celebrating with bells and whistles. And it’s come to mean more to me in the last 24 hours due to circumstances that continue to remain completely out of my control thanks to the CCP. I do, however, understand why others are not particularly invested, so we’re all good.
  20. Major Crimes was a major success following seven seasons of The Closer.
  21. Quite frankly, I’d give up both propped Gwen and played out Abby (and… who? oh, yeah Chad) for Jack and (MR) Jennifer (and a non-ruined JJ) playing with Steve and Kayla. What do I have to do for some actual Jack/Steve scenes?!?? Gwen is non-redeemable unless she owns up to every lie she’s told, including the miscarriage lie. As horrible as Abby might be (and it’s debatable), she doesn’t deserve what lying disgusting Gwen has brought on her.
  22. The sister saying it at all doesn’t automatically make it true, either. No one except Ms. Wood and Mr. Douglas will ever know for sure if it was him.
  23. Abby did not cause Gwen’s miscarriage. Gwen framed her after having already miscarried.
