And there was nothing the others could gain from knowing - they couldn't use her advantage to get rid of her or to somehow influence whose vote she blocked. All he did was show them that he was a blabbermouth who shouldn't be trusted (while he was trying to gain their trust). I agree that she should have given it to one of the two former Heroes. She said she wanted to create chaos, and giving it to Devin would create more chaos than giving it a former Hero. They may have been too young to watch it, but they were probably born. the first season aired in the summer of 2000. I think Bugs Bunny was referencing Of Mice and Men. There are two main characters in the book - George, a small guy, and Lenny, a big, slow-witted guy. Lenny likes to pet the rabbits and gets a little rougher than he should. Lenny says, "Can I pet the rabbits, George?" which was a popular quote, when I was younger and dinosaurs still roamed the Earth. I was thinking the same thing when Chrissy was talking about how she felt so "loved" when he passed the clue to her. He doesn't know her, there was no "connection," the only reason he gave it to her was because he saw her as the weakest on her tribe and he wanted to keep her around so her tribe would be weaker. We all thought that Devon got an advantage, but that was partly because we all thought Devin had been on the same tribe as the one who got the advantage.

I saw a fast money clip on youtube once where the first person got 200 points. They had the second person come out as usual and the host (Ray Combs, I think) asked him really weird questions. -

World Of Dance - General Discussion
needschocolate replied to Meredith Quill's topic in World Of Dance
I'm going to go with a hybrid version of picking your opponent - my guess is the producer give them a choice between a few of the other dancers, but don't let them pick from entire list. This way they can still control the drama factor but they can also honestly say that the dancers pick. I agree with both of these. I had no idea how well he tapped because I couldn't hear any tapping. I could fake tap dance as long as no one could hear me. And I have found it difficult to see exactly what many of the acts are doing because of all the stuff in the background and/or costumes that blend in too much with the background. I liked the first round of this show, but find the duel episode to be too much talk and not enough dance. And, while I am complaining, I like that there is no designated "mean judge" but I find it a bit annoying that they make it sound like every performance is amazingly awesome and something rarely ever seen but some of these incredible acts get a 94 and others get an 84. Now that the complaints are out of the way... I like this show much better than SYTYCD. -
Flea Market Flip - General Discussion
needschocolate replied to Meredith Quill's topic in Flea Market Flip
Just watched an episode from a week ago and one of the projects was to take something gaudy/ornate and make it chic. One team took a ornate metal thing and painted it white, added some wood and turned it into a plant stand. The other team took a plain, stained wood, mid-century cabinet with sliding doors and turned it into a plain, painted wood, mid-century modern cabinet with hinged doors (And it was Lara's idea to make new doors, they were just going to paint it). I was rooting for them to lose solely because they didn't stick to the flip list at all. I know show plays fast and loose with the flip list, but this project wasn't even close. -

I get the feeling that Daytime Emmy Awards started out as the Emmys for shows that were on during the day, and has now morphed into Emmys for shows in categories few people care about so the show the award show during the daytime. I think the wine press turned into a wine bar (2 weeks ago?) was the the most Lara has ever butted in. They said "this is interesting" and Lara immediately tells them to turn it into a wine bar/table and shows them exactly where they need to add wood. Then she negotiated with the seller. -
There is a good chance that their classmates have never heard of the singer. The real Celine Dion has not had a song in the Billboard Top 100 since 2002 (titanic was 20 years ago - yikes!). I drive a car old enough that I listen to the radio when I drive and I cannot remember the last time I heard a Celine Dion song.

Unless she is named after her father's favorite singer. I am guessing that there are a lot of kid singers that audition and don't make it, but they don't show us those (tough on the kid and makes the judges look heartless). But, if you're a kid who sings okay and has a heart-wrenching story.... I have noticed the different outfits on the judges. They don't even bother to put all of one day's auditions together (so, for example, Mel would wear pants for the first half of the episode and a see-through dress for the second half). If they are going to mix up the auditions, then they should do what Shark Tank does and have them wear the same cloths at each audition. I think Tyra has worn more than one "no pants" outfit - I don't remember her wearing anything but "no pants" outfits. However, I don't pay much attention to her, so I could be wrong. Years of rolling my eyes at her on America's Next Top Model have jaded me. She probably doesn't do anything differently than Nick, but with Nick I saw a friendly guy reacting on camera, and, with Tyra, I see a woman mugging for the camera and trying to focus the attention on herself. I thought it was just because I can't carry a tune, but I wasn't impressed with her either. However, unlike most of the kid singers, I thought she sounded better when she sang louder. When she started out, I was wondering how the judges were going to tell this cute little girl that she wasn't good enough.

Last act is a young girl, with a sick dad and she sings to him to help him feel better and she is on last and she gets a standing ovation and she does not get the golden buzzer? I was shocked. Originally, I figured that there wouldn't be a golden buzzer act this episode because there is still one episode left, but when she came on I thought that may I had miscounted and there have only been two so far. Now, the only thing left that would surprise me is if Tyra wore pants or a skirt. If I saw someone dressed like her in real life I would assume they rushed out of the house that morning and I would offer them something to tie around their waste until they could find proper clothing. I can understand wearing one of those outfits for one episode, but it is every week. Like the audience and the judges, I thought DeNiro guy was pretty entertaining until he actually started his act. I don't know if he thought his other impressions were good or if he wanted us to think that DeNiro wouldn't do good impressions of his "friends." I wish he would have skipped the other impressions and went straight to whatever he was going to do when the stopped his act. I know a lot of performers are bad at ad libbing, but he might be the only one better at ad libbing than doing the stuff he rehearsed.
-
They should have the golden buzzer act in the middle of the episode sometime jsut so it isn't so predictable. And, if they really want to surprise people, have the last act get Xed. I may have missed something, but I think the singing golden buzzer boy didn't tell the judges that he was once blind. I play a little game with myself whenever there is a sob story, I try to figure out how the judges are going to "spontaneously" find out what the sob story is - though, usually it is just "why did you pick this song?" (which they really should ask of people who don't have a sob story too, because, if they want the audience to think they don't know about the sob story beforehand). I don't remember them "coaxing" his sob story out of him. I knew there was an act that made me laugh out loud, but couldn't remember who it was.

S34.E14: No Good Deed Goes Unpunished / S34.E15: Reunion
needschocolate replied to Tara Ariano's topic in Survivor
I agree - your interpretation is the way I looked at it too (great brains think alike?). However, even this isn't universally true - or at least, it isn't necessarily true in the inverse. While players who outwit and outplay will outlast, not everyone - *cough...Troyzan...cough* - who outlasts has outwitted or outplayed. There is usually one who was dragged/carried to the end because they won't get votes. And they often think that they have a chance to win, because they "must have done something right to make it to the end" and it usually dawns on them during the FTC that they were the goat. Except for Russell Hantz, who I don't think ever figured out that he was the goat. -

needschocolate replied to Tara Ariano's topic in Survivor
I tend to erase the details of most seasons about a week after the reunion, so perhaps someone else can confirm if this is true - Brad is the only survivor player to look more than 10 years older at the reunion than he did on the island. My gut feeling is that the whole "outwit, outplay, outlast" was just a catchy marketing phrase and they are now trying to assign definitions to each word. However, the definitions overlap and the words don't necessarily cover everything. It would be difficult to be on Survivor, not only because of the challenges, the starvation, the dehydration, the weather, the lack of sleep, the annoying tribe-mates, and the bugs, but you would also have to make sure that you never do and say anything that could make you look bad once the show is edited. If you do look bad, then you need to go on social media or give interviews so you can tell the world how it really happened or how you want them to think it happened. -

Had to laugh at Troyzan initially thinking he had a chance to win. Probst's making it sound like just getting to the end (outlasting) made someone deserving of the win didn't help. Seems that every season there is someone who was carried to the end who thinks they deserve to win because they were able to make it to the end. Which is also why they need to have a final three, and not a final two. Otherwise, it would just be the winner and a goat in every final two and there would be no suspense. Personally, I didn't think Sarah had any chance to win, but she gave much better answers to the jury than Brad, the trial lawyer, did. Sarah also benefited from what I think may be the least bitter jury ever. "Voted all of you out" could lead to "I'm not voting for you because you are the reason I am on the jury," but this group appreciated her gameplay. Similarly, some juries would see Brad's "I was always in the minority and on the wrong side of the vote" as "Wow, you are such an underdog but you made it, so here's your million," but this non-bitter jury saw it as, "You are only there because you were a more physically able player and had no other strategy that got you to the end." This is one of the reason I will probably never get tired of watching survivor. There is no one strategy that gets you to the end, no one way to get the million dollars. There is luck involved every step of the way - the luck of starting off on a tribe that wins challenges, the luck of staying healthy enough to play, the luck of a bitter or non-bitter jury., etc... My theory is that they need to call the season something. Numbering them would get too confusing. They used to name them after the location, but they re-use locations, sot that doesn't work anymore. So they give them a name that will help people remember what happened that season. The names aren't necessarily all that accurate, but we will probably remember this next season better because this was the season with that guy who kept saying he was a hustler" To me, that is the most annoying part of naming seasons this way - all the players trying to make their label mean someone.- 384 replies

I liked seeing the toys presented to the adult judges, though I found the host to be "off" (I know he isn't Cameron in real life, but he seemed so uncomfortable at times, like a guy who had never been on tv before). I usually fast-forwarded through the kid judging, but did see some of it. If it comes back without changes, I would probably watch it again the same way. I imagine that making changes to it would only help, as long as they don't get rid of the first round of judging completely. The kid judges seemed "coached." I got the feeling that most of their comments were not something they came up with entirely on their own. They weren't necessarily scripted and rehearsed, but if you say a phrase in front of a kid and make it sound funny/cool, a kid will likely repeat it. It is also fairly easy to sway a kid's opinion. I imagine there were Mattel personnel saying things like "Wow, this is really cool! And look at this part - that's awesome!" as well as, "It's nice, but it takes up a lot of room, right? Would you want to clean up all the pieces afterwards?"

Good episode. For a few seconds, I was thinking, "just because most viewers think a baby is a bad idea, they can't have it not survive - this is a sit-com!" I believe Miss Manners says that showers should never be hosted by family. Personally, I think it is fine for a sibling to host, maybe even for the soon-to-be grandparent to host a shower for their daughter/d-i-l, but hosting one when you are the parent, especially for your 5th child and you, apparently, make a lot of money, is just rude. But it is also within Dre's character, IMO. I think for Dre it was more about throwing the best shower ever than getting gifts. One part I found odd, but not completely unbelievable, was the montage of all the shower they had been invited to. These are people in their early 40's, their friends are probably able the same age and most people don't have babies that late, but their kids would be too young to be having babies (in most cases). I mean, it is certainly possible, but I would think Bow and Dre wouldn't get a lot of baby shower invites during this stage of their lives. And wouldn't Dre invite Bo's parents to the baby shower.

I think, if Sarah makes it to the end, we will hear her say "big moves" a lot - perhaps enough that it could be dangerous to make it a drinking game. She said it during the first TC this past episode - She thinks it is more about playing hard, making big moves, etc, than personal relationships. I get the feeling that, when she is deciding who to vote for, she asks herself, "Which one would be the bigger move?" Speaking of that TC, Andrea said that there was no talking/scrambling going on at camp before coming to TC. I would have thought she was a savvy enough player that she would realize that if you think no one is scrambling, then you are the one they are targeting. How many times have we heard talking heads of "No one is talking to me or making eye contact, I think I am on the chopping block"?
-
I like Cirie, but can understand why others would not. For me, it is the combination of three things - her talking heads can be entertaining, she is very good (imo) of convincing others that something is in their best interest, when it isn't (like Erik giving up his idol or Tai not using his) - Sandra is also good at this, and she is probably the player that is most like the way I would be if I were on the show. My balance sucks and I have never been a very fast runner or swimmer. I would be good at puzzles, but my best hope to outlast would be to get along with everyone and convince people to do things for my benefit, while making them think it was for theirs. However, the reason why she is able to convince people to do things is that she gives them this trail of "logic" that weaves all over until people finally reach the conclusion she wants them to. This ends up, like it did in this episode, being a plan that doesn't always seem to make sense to those of us at home who have gotten food and enough sleep.

Okay, I think I got this figured out --- Sarah wants to vote out Aubry. Tai tells Aubry he wants to vote out Sarah Aubry tells Cirie that Tai wants to vote out Sarah. Cirie tells Sarah that Tai is gunning for her, but Sarah doesn't believe it, beacuse she doesn't trust Aubry. Sarah tells Cirie about the Steal-a-vote advantage and says she will give it to Cirie to hold - this is supposed to prove how sure Sarah is that Tai will not vote Sarah out and also how loyal she is to Cirie. Cirie and Michaela start counting and Cirie is afraid that Sarah will be gone. I do not know exactly how Cirie thought the votes would go - probably the three guys vote for Sarah, Sarah votes for Aubry. Michaela and Cire don't want Aubry voted out and Aubry is apparently not voting for Sarah (otherwise, she wouldn't have told Cirie that Tai was voting for Sarah). Cirie wants Tai gone. If the three guys vote for Sarah, Cirie, Michaela and Aubry vote for Tai, and Sarah votes for Aubry, then there is a tie (Sarah -3 , Tai -3, Aubry - 1). If Tai plays his idol, then Sarah goes home. Cirie says that if she plays the steal-a-vote, anyone who has an idol can play it after the votes are cast (but before they are read). If she steals Tai's vote, then it becomes Sarah - 2, Tai - 4, and Aubry -1, but Tai might realize that they are voting for him, and he would likely play his idol and Sarah goes home (or, if someone flips, Aubry goes home.) Therefore, Cirie needs to get 4 votes for Tai without Tai playing his idol. Cirie needs to convince Tai he is not going to go home. To do this, she tells him that Sarah is planning to vote for him, but she is going to use the steal-a-vote advantage to steal Sarah's vote, and save Tai. If she steals Sarah's vote, it becomes Tai-4, Sarah - 3. Tai, however, thinks that, if Cirie steals Sarah's vote, Cirie will vote twice for Sarah and Sarah will be out. It is a convoluted plan, but it could work, except that Cirie can't actually steal any votes. This next part (in italics) is speculation on my part - Cirie convinces Sarah that she was going to vote for Tai but had to make him think she wasn't so she had to steal Sarah's vote otherwise it would be a tie. Troyzan or Brad decide that they want to vote for Michaela and let Sarah know this - (perhaps this was always their plan and Sarah wasn't actually in danger?). Sarah figures she needs to play the advantage because it is no use keeping it now, plus she may be on the chopping block. Sarah thinks Brad and Troyzan are voting for Michaela, Tai might still be voting for her, Cirie and Michaela are voting for Tai, Aubry is voting for Tai or Sarah. So, without Sarah's vote (and if Aubry votes for Sarah), the vote would be to be Michaela - 2, Sarah - 2, and Tai - 2. Sarah has to make sure that it is Michaela because Tai may have an idol and Sarah may end up being voted out. So she takes Tai's vote and votes for Michaela. However, she can't tell Cirie this plan, because she might tell Michaela. Obviously, she can't tell Michaela and she doesn't tell Aubry because - I am not sure, probably because she still doesn't trust Aubry. Why did Cirie vote for Aubry? - I don't know. Maybe she saw it as her only hope to save Sarah and/or Michaela. She might have known Troy and Brad were voting Michaela or she may have thought they were still voting for Sarah, and she figured that Michaela and Aubry were still voting for Tai, this means it would be Tai - 2, and Michaela-or-Sarah - 2. Cirie probably figured Tai would play his idol and Sarah would use both of her votes for Aubry, so Cirie had to vote for Aubry to show Sarah she is loyal and to save Michaela if the guys were voting for her. If Cirie knew that Sarah and the guys were voting for Michaela, then she also knew she couldn't stop Michaela from going home, but she could get Michaela's jury vote because she didn't stab her in the back. And there was no point in voting for Tai, since he should play his idol, and by not voting for him she keeps him thinking she was his friend and was trying to save him. The biggest "what?" moment to me is that Tai didn't play his idol. I can't figure out why, after being told by Cirie that they were gunning for him and Sarah taking his vote away, he kept it in his pocket. He has 2, for goodness sakes! The only thing I could think of is that his biggest fear is wasting an idol by playing one he didn't need to play (apparently a bigger fear than going how with 2 in his pocket) and that Tai isn't very adept at figuring out who is on the chopping block - seems to me he has a bit of a history of having to be told who to vote for.

I am happy Becca and Floyd stayed in it. I wish there was some strange twist where Scott and Liz became partners and Mike and Brooke became partners then whined their way out of the race (after Scott and Liz u-turned them). What did she say? Something like "It was a privilege to be defeated with Mike"?

Art and Wine Couple - Did she really tel the sharks that business is going slow and there was a lot of competition? I figured they weren't going to get a deal when no one asked how difficult it was to get qualified instructors, if they have to get a liquor license to operate, or about potential liability from customers driving how drunk (especially since it, apparently, only takes 37 seconds to paint the picture). The naked male model was rather gratuitous - i noticed the women in the photo of a class all painted a flower arrangement. Hair Guys - That was ridiculous, as was the name of their company - I geuss "Bed Head" was already taken. And sending out a pretty girl in a sexy dress and high heels doesn't really prove anything about pheromones. Then again, it wasn't like they could send out someone less appealing and have the sharks smell her and suddenly be attracted to her because it probably doesn't work. And why put the pheromones in a shampoo if they are so awesome? - just make a pheromone spray. Oh yeah, it probably doesn't work (and that probably already exists) The Notebook - it is a gimmick that some would find useful, but most would not. Maybe it would be better to make an app where you "write" on your screen and then have those icons to automatically save it to the right file - that would skip the photo/scan step. I also thought that the erasable notepad would be good for kids who like to draw/scribble - save on all that paper and you don't have to clutter your fridge with drawings jsut to make the kiddos feel good. Bridal thing was a great idea, surprised David's Bridal wasn't interested. I hope she has a patent (or whatever she can have to protect her from a wedding dress store from stealing it). The "you have a great product, but we like your friend better than you so she has to be an equal partner" was really odd. -
Life In Pieces - General Discussion
needschocolate replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Life In Pieces
The last two episodes made me realize that the show does better if the 4 stories are more separate. There were separate plots but they had to tie them all around the same theme/event, and I don't think it worked well. However, the wedding made me happy (until there was too much Greg). Last week, I questioned why Matt and Colleen would be in San Diego, where Jen and Greg's plane had to make an emergency landing. This week, they were all in San Diego at the hotel for the wedding. Then I realized that they all live in San Diego. But, if they all live in San Diego, why were they all staying at the hotel - or were they? (note: I have no idea why this is important to me) Earlier, she threw her wedding dress off the balcony (when she decided that the universe was against the wedding) and it landed in the pool. The audience knew that the pool was directly below the balcony (which is rather odd), and there was a splash, so we weren't supposed to be concerned that Colleen was injured. I don't remember if they said how high up the balcony was. Sometimes this show is well-written, sometimes not. The writers do better at funny dialogue than at non-dialogue. I feel like I either missed something or something was cut out, because it made no sense that Jen didn't point out that the guy never asked if there was coconut in the cookies. -

I wish Hassan would have mentioned something about how they are pundits giving opinions but there are a lot of people watching that seem to have trouble differentiating between opinion and fact and that maybe less eye rolling and smugness would be helpful
