  1. It wasn't just that the accent was horrible, it was also that she couldn't act. Loved people bingo too.
  2. Oh, Cam. Always having to take anything that doesn't go his way as a personal affront. Yes, she was rude to stand up and block his view, but he could have just walked up to her after the recital and said "I noticed that you taped the dance my daughter was is, could you send me the video?" if she objected (and I can't imagine why she would), then he could point out that he missed it because she was blocking his view. Or, if she sends him the video and he is still annoyed, he could mention to her that if she wants to tape it on a large ipad, she should stand off to the side. However, unfortunately, the character of Cam is not unrealistic - I have known people who take every opportunity to be offended and then blather on and on about it. It is annoying to be around, and being a tv character doesn't make it any better. Cam is annoying. I have been working from home a lot lately and have been streaming Cheers as background noise. I am nearing the end of the series and there was a scene where Diane appears on TV. Then, a few hours later, Didi pops up on Modern Family.
  3. I learn so much from Shark Tank. For instance, I never knew that part of the Navy Seal sniper training was learning the ins and outs of the coffee industry. $60 for 18 items sounds like a good deal, until you realize that 9 pairs of socks is 18 items. In the age of online ordering, is replacing your dingy underthings really that big of a deal? Heck, you could do a subscription thing with Amazon and get new underwear on a regular basis. But I am a woman and don't know much about the apparent hassle it is to buy men's under clothes (my husband, stoic he-man that he is, never complains about underwear buying). However, if we assume for a moment that it is some sort of major ordeal to go to the store to buy underwear and socks, it is really any simpler to choose the pack that fits your needs from this company? Was it the Underwear Lady who gave her husband a pep talk before coming out.? Maybe it was the Cat Lady, although she would have probably just purred a little and gave him some catnip. Either way, that was kind of weird I think the Cat Guy showed his hand when he mentioned the part about how many orders they will get from their appearance on the show - I don't think they wanted a deal, they wanted free publicity. When the doll people came out I thought it was another set of parents trying to convince everyone that they have a solution for a problem that exists only in their minds, but they weren't the wacky parents I expected them to be. I haven't shopped for dolls in a long time, I would have thought that dolls would have gotten more diverse by now. If they are all still white and blond, then their idea is a worthy one and I am glad they got a deal. However, I hope there have been great strides in the manufacturing of doll hair. Every doll I have ever known with hair ends up with dreadlocks within a few weeks of being played with (except for the yarn hair on cabbage patch dolls). Or ... "I love my cat, but I don't LICK my cat." Nice analogy. You could say that the pitch was off for a few of them (although no one was really "pitchy")
  4. Did they mention the name of the baby? If not, then maybe this is going to be like Penny's maiden name, and we never find out.
  5. I agree - them having the bag really did nothing to advance the story line. It could be left out of the episode completly - they could have had Gloria find the bad somewhere in the house - and it wouldn't have affected the plot at all. Why didn't Gloria go pick them up? Or call uber. Too contrived.
  6. Well, it is possible. My father, who hated Clinton because he lied about having an affair, had numerous affairs (which he lied about, of course) throughout his marriage to my mother. We may be half-siblings. Of course, the hating Clinton for lying was merely an excuse. Clinton is a Democrat, so he was going to find a reason to hate him, even if Clinton never had an affair or had them and didn't lie. I try to be an optimist - power of positive thinking and all that - so, when it gets overwhelming, I like to imagine (yeah, I know it is purely fiction) Trump is actually a liberal genius (I said it was fiction) whose plan is it get all these people, who used to be Democrats but now think the republican/tea party represents them, to vote for him and then he will screw them over so badly that they will re-align with the Democrats and in 2018 the republicans will no longer have control of Congress. I heard an interesting description of how the parties have evolved over the past few decades. The republicans used to be the party of the rich and upper middle class - the people who ran companies, owned small businesses, the ones with professional degrees. They wanted less government involvement and lower taxes/spending, and were anti-union. The Democrats were the party of the less educated, the lower middle class and the poor, the young and idealistic, the union members. Then, in the 1990's, the democrats started becoming the party of the young intellectuals. The poor and the newly poor (those who had lost their jobs or whose jobs, which once were enough to have a middle class life, now earned them too little) felt left out. They had grown up in a country where almost everyone was Christian and those who didn't share their morals were chastised. Now the country seemed to be headed toward the proverbial gutter (more sex on TV, abortions, homosexuals), was being over-run with foreigners and they were being told that they had to accept that the foreigners had different beliefs and holidays. People started saying Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas and they felt that their America was ending and the democrats didn't represent them anymore. The republican party became more pro-christianity and the democrats who felt their world was ending latched on. And whatever the republicans tell them must be true because God is on their side. I know my dream of Trump being a secret genius is ridiculous, but I do have hope that the plans that Trump carry out will cause these people to lose faith in the republican party and allow the democrats the opportunity to gain them back. The brick may be listening, but the brick is also twisting around what it hears.
  7. My guess is that they learned this from an email sent to them by one of their right-wing nutjob friends. The internet can be a wonderful thing (as anyone who just can't seem to remember the lyrics to a song can tell you), but it also can spread misinformation at the speed of lightening, and it helps the ones with illogical ideas find others who agree with them. Add in that there are many people who assume that anything written down or told to them by a friend must be true, and you have the perfect climate for this sort of inanity. Email where my father gets most of his information (he also watches Fox, the only fair and balanced news source). My father forwards me emails (likely in an attempt to cure me of what he believes are my leftist socialist views - even though I am actually quite moderate). These emails are ridiculously illogical, yet, as long as they are anti-democrat, or anti-Obama, or anti-Hillary, he believes them completely. Usually, I don't respond, but he once commented that info in the email ("Obama salutes the flag by grabbing his crotch") made him regret serving in the Navy, so I emailed him back stating that I didn't want him to feel this way and I checked it out and Obama wasn't grabbing his crotch, he was just standing with his hands in front of him, and the reason why he wasn't saluting like everyone else in the photo is because those other people were saluting Obama and you don't salute yourself. I sent him the Snopes link. He responded with an email stating that Snopes is biased and untrustworthy and run by liberals. It mentioned another site as the only fair and true fact-checking site. So, of course, I went to that site and checked out what they have to say about Snopes, which was that Snopes is the most unbaised site around. There is no point in trying to discuss anything with people like this. It is like trying to have a discussion with a brick. Handling the delusion, gullibility, and stupidity is bad enough, but what is driving me off the edge is the hypocrisy. My father sent many emails that complained about how much it costs the taxpayers every time Obama went to Hawaii, but he is totally fine with Trump wanting to spend half his time in NYC while collecting rent from the Secret Service who are renting a floor of Trump Tower. He accuses Clinton or Obama of hiding important information, but doesn't think it is necessary for Trump to release his tax returns (his defense "I wouldn't know how to read his returns, so why do I need to see them?"). When someone pointed out, as proof of Trump being a liar, that Trump said for years that he had proof that Obama wasn't born in the US and then says that Obama was born in the US, my father replied that there is no proof that Obama was born in the US and that Trump never said that he was. Apparently, half my DNA came from a brick.
  8. I feel that most "mean girls" don't realize they are mean. They think they are clever or they assume that everyone feels the way they do - if they are having fun then everyone is having fun, and if they happen to notice that someone else isn't having fun, then there is something wrong with that person, not that different people could experience the same event differently. Ego and/or being self-absorbed is a big part of it. I turned to my couchmate during the reunion and said, "Erin really likes talking about herself." Whether it is her struggle to overcome growing up in Utah or her love of yellow or her "oh-so-creative" designs, as long as they are talking about her, she considers it enthralling conversation. It takes me half the season to remember people from week to week, so half of the deisgners are lost on my at the reunion. I saw her on the reunion and thought "Who is that? They need to stop letting random passer-bys sit in on the reunion show " then they showed her on the show and I remembered her very well. She was one of my favorites (at least personality-wise, I don't remember her designs). I think part of my problem with remembering faces and names is that I, apparently, identify people by their hair. The other part of my problem remembering these people is that this seemed like a long season to me. When they highlighted the girl with the laugh (I remembered her because her hair hadn't changed), my first thought was "She was on this season, I thought she was on last season.
  9. Now that Erin has won and will be so busy being a famous designer (*cough, cough*) that she won't have time to randomly attach random stuff to her clothing, I have a time-saving tip for her - sew the outfit, put it on, spray on some adhesive, then roll around on a dirty floor. Same effect, a lot less time. To paraphrase Freud - Sometimes a banana is just a tacky thing.
  10. Should have made it that the the budget was $80, but Manny thought it was $800. Manny is supposed to be smart enough to realize that no high school dance has a budget of $8,000 (wouldn't he wonder why last year's dance was much more cheaply done?) And don't most schools sell tickets to the dance that should cover most of the costs? I wouldn't be nit-picking this if the episode had been entertaining. I don't need it to be sappy, but the most heartwarming moment of a Christmas episode shouldn't be that Cam was supposed to get pranked after all.
  11. I wish they would have had Jessie and Becky decide to become foster parents. I think it would have meant more story opportunities (but, I suppose, Jessie and Becky aren't on the show enough for it to mattter." The middle son gets all the cute lines, but his acting bothers me. Yelling is not the same as acting. The interior of houses on tv never make sense. The house has other houses right next to it on both sides, so why are people always knocking on the back door? Heck, even if they had a side yard, they still have a fence and gate, so why would someone come into the back yard to come into the house on the back door (it made sense when Kimmy was younger and lived next door). Plus, I am pretty sure they have windows on the walls that are next to the other houses. But this happens on every show. Lucy and Ricky's apartment didn't make sense either. In one of their apartments they had windows on adjacent walls, which would be fine if they had a corner apartment, but the door was where the outside corner would be.
  12. Did the unsub kill the first victim, or did his father? I have never seen a silo in real life, so I am asking this question to everyone who has - Would a silo's door open in (like it did on this episode) or out? Seems to me that you couldn't check on the grain when the silo is full if it opens in, but, on the other hand, if it opened out, that might increase the chance of the door busting open when the silo is full. The victim stabs the unsub with the shears (yay for her!) then runs out of the barn. The unsub runs out after her. When the BAU shows up, the barn door is latched. That means that the unsub, who has been stabbed in the back, runs out after the victim, then turns around, latches the barn door, then heads on after the victim. I suppose it could also mean that he dragged the victim back to the barn, realized he left the door open, goes over to latch it, while holding on to a screaming and kicking victim, then drags her over to the trough to drown her. Either way, it makes no sense to me. It reminded me of an episode a week or two ago where the three boys ran through a corn field. Perhaps they paid rent on a cornfield and had some time left in the lease.
  13. I think the main reason Lorelei shut out Rory was because Rory went to live with the Gilmores. The Gilmores agreed to go with Lorelei's plan then they didn't. We know that Rory approached Richard, but, in typical TV fashion, that wasn't explained to Lorelei. Therefore, Lorelei felt that her parents betrayed her. Plus, Rory knows how how Lorelei feels about the Gilmores, so Lorelei viewed Rory going to live with them as Rory betraying her - chosing her parents over her. I can see how Lorelei, who is has a history of being quick to react and to judge and to be offended (She is not the most mature person), would view this as "well, you have all turned against me so I don't want to have anything to do with any of you." It isn't how a person should handle it, but it is not out of character for Lorelei to handle it that way.
  14. Good theory. I have another one -- I have noticed for a while that the Republican party tends to be copycats, in that whatever the Republican party says is wrong with the Democratic candidate during an election, ends up being something that can be applied to the Rep candidate in a future election. And, not only do they copy the Dems, they usually have to "one up" them. For instance - -- In 1992, the Reps said that Bill Clinton shouldn't be president because he went to Oxford to avoid going to Vietnam, then, in 2000 they nominate GW Bush, who enlisted in the Texas National Guard to avoid going to Vietnam. --- Around 1997, the Reps tried to get Bill Clinton out office because they claimed he is a sexual predator. In 2016 they elected a man who admitted on tape to being a sexual predator. -- In 2008, the Reps said that Obama wasn't qualified to be president because he didn't have enough experience, since he had only been a Senator for 2 years. In 2016, they nominated a man who has zero political experience and has little to no understanding of how the constitution and the government work. So, why did all these blue collar workers vote for Trump? Well, in 2008, part of Obama's campaign was the message of "Hope" and the Reps made fun of that. Staying true to form, the Reps are the ones who based their vote on "hope" - they hoped that he was saying about bringing jobs back to the US and making was actually possible. I am, sort of, joking here , although all the examples are true. The hypocrisy is slowing killing me.
  15. Thanks everyone for the opinions. I think I will give it a try.
  16. I need opnions - I set up the show to auto-record, and every episode is on the DVR, but I have not watched any of it. Should I watch it or should I delete what I have and stop recording it? The posts above imply that I will enjoy the first episode but will think it is a little long, and, since then, the jury seems to be out on whether it is cute or boring. The number of posts per episode have gone down significantly since the pilot and no one has posted since 11/27, even though a new episode supposedly aired on 11/29 - a week ago. This all seems to suggest that most people have stopped watching. Should I free up some space on the DVR or not? Thanks.
  17. I agree - I like Duff, think Lorraine is snooty, and Nancy tries to hard to be cute, although she might be going for "clever." Usually, Nancy and Lorraine bicker and disagree, but this week it seemed more like Duff disagreeing with everything Nancy said - we wondered if they had a fight backstage or she insulted his puppy or something. However, I like Duff and wouldn't mind if Nancy was replaced (but not with Damiano), so I was okay with his picking on her. If you are not watching The Great American Baking Show on ABC (started last Thursday), then you should be. It is the Great British Bake Off (Baking Show) except done in the US. No phony talking heads filmed after challenges but shown during them, no manufactured drama between contestants, no gimmicky challenges, no surprise twists, no wonky grading curves, no wannabe reality stars, no "inspiration" story required, and they get a proper amount of time to complete the challenge. They even have Mary Berry as a judge.
  18. There seemed to be a San Francisco Bay Area theme this week (I thought the dog food guy was from New Orleans, but the episode description says otherwise), but really it was just another week of "products that no one needs that solve problems that don't exist." Or maybe the theme was "people who wrongly believe that everyone else is just like them." If you want caffeine and sugar, drink coffee/coke/tea/red bull, or eat some chocolate. I don't see how eating a caffeinated sugar cube counts as fasting. The motorized skateboard may be the best motorized skateboard in existence but it isn't going to sell unless they drop the price considerable and market it as a "toy" like the hoverboard. I have never boiled my food in a bag, but have seen it done on Top Chef. I wouldn't mind if someone I knew got one and I got to try it. However, it certainly isn't necessary and as the poster upthread, who has actually cooked this way, mentioned, it isn't easier than "regular" cooking. I don't see a huge market of people ordering food to cook for their dogs. However, the food is apparently fine for human consumption and seems cheaper than similar products (plated, etc..)aimed at humans, so I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up selling to pet-less people. You can sign up on Pet Food Advisor to get an email any time a pet food product (including treats) is recalled. It seems that about half the recalls I have gotten were for raw food that was contaminated with salmonella. If you go the raw food route, be sure to sign up for recall notification.
  19. Just saw this episode and missed the last one because the DVR thought it had already recorded it when it taped the rerun shown because of the World Series. Tara is looking better - like a normal person. My problem with the character is the past was that it felt like AT was playing a homely woman - "oh look, I am going to show what a great actress I am by playing someone not as pretty as I really am." Parts of the Hotch departure felt, to me, like they originally wrote it as though Hotch died, filmed some of the scenes (like Garcia being so distraught because she can't remember the last thing she said to him - seemed to OOT even for Garcia), then decided that they would just have him go into Witness Protection, and changed the script, but kept the scenes they already filmed. However, I am glad they went the Witness Protection route. The kidnapping story needed a lot more explanation than they gave. Like others have said, why would the kidnapped twins kidnap the three boys? Why were acting like they were 8 when they were kidnapped at 12? If the original kidnapper was dead why hasn't anyone seen one of the twins? Are they growing the carrots in a spare bedroom? Why was the male twin hairless? Why were the twins allowed to stay at the house like they did nothing wrong? They could have at least had the boys stumble upon the original kidnapper's corpse in the basement.
  20. Was that TER playing Bow in the High School and College flashbacks? She looked the right age. I was surprised that Megan's age never came up when Bow was trying to find reasons not to like her (before admitting that it because she's white). Megan must be a senior - same grade as Zoey. Is Junior a sophomore? I don't think anyone has mentioned Megan and Junior discussing how they met (not the exact quote) - Megan: A bunch of freshmen were taking his backpack Junior: You should have seen her tell those girls off Per Dictionary.com, there are two definitions: The first one applies to things, the second to people, so your interpretation is correct. "Murky" is right - What if Ruby or Pops was white, then Dre would also be biracial, and the kids would be 50% Black and 50% White, but not be biracial
  21. I think they had to make her old enough to be the "annoying teenage girl" but young enough that Hailey had to be in charge of her. IMO, 14 is too old to need a babysitter, but it would have been odd to have a 11 or 12 year old treating Hailey that way (thought not really unusual in sitcomland). Plus, I think they may have wanted someone so tall to make it weirder that Hailey had to parent her. The daughter was played by Brianna Askins. IMdB does not list her age, or her height.
  22. I think part of the reason the daughter didn't look 14 was because she seemed a foot taller than Hailey. Read the show's forum and most people seem to like the show better when all the characters interact, rather than having each family have its own separate storyline.
  23. It was like this episode was one they wrote last year and held onto it for this season, where everyone's faults were amplified to the point of being ridiculous. Sheldon was back to being a jerk, Leonard was back to being a pathetic wimp, Stuart was back to being a pathetic loser.... I guess I should just be happy that Bernie didn't return to being a screeching shrew.
