  1. All their oohing & ahhing over restaurants & shops really annoyed me. I spent a week in April living in the 11th arrondissement and the whole city is filled with these places; there are bakeries in the train station and vending machines in the Metro that sell madeleines, fer Chrissakes.
  2. This kind of fakery happens on many HGTV shows. I just assume it's producer-driven or demanded by the network execs, who think people watching these shows are idiots. T&C are so great together, and the whole process is so interesting, I never get tired of watching. The fact that it's only 30 minutes helps too.
  3. Winston is correct, we were given to believe the kids were told much of the truth but the books didn't have any details about "orientation". As to Pilcher's planning for the future: his plan was to preserve a select group of people and play God in his own version of Sim City. He had the money and technical know-how to accomplish this, and not even his own daughter could stop him. Punishing those who broke the rules was necessary to maintain order and release tension. It might seem harsh to us, but look what happened when Ethan told everyone the truth. They couldn't HANDLE the truth!
  4. I like how the show is filling us in concerning the children's "education"; the books could have used a little more information in that area. Plus now I don't feel quite so bad about what happens to the teacher.
  5. Slade reminded me of the old Property Ladder show on TLC; 90% of those flips were cringe-worthy and yet most of the houses still sold. Maybe people are more savvy now, having watched these shows. I like that Tarek & Christina are not afraid to spend money where it counts, and they really know their market. Pet peeve: why does C. constantly go for the quartz countertop with the sparkles? I love quartz but that stuff just looks like the old formica kitchen table we had in 1965.
  6. I thought the 10 show episodes were supposed to cover all 3 books. I couldn't wait to read the rest once I finished the first one, and really liked them; but #3 is quite graphic. It was disturbing, but maybe that's just me. However, being disturbed sure beats being bored. It was disappointing to learn there would be no book 4.
  7. Embedding something in a person's thigh is a lot simpler and safer than brain surgery; the scar is barely noticeable, plus much of the town doesn't know (or want to know) about the chip stuff. Pilcher was re-animated by his team; gave them time to work out any possible problems before thawing the Big Boss. Wayward Pines is his baby and he thinks he knows best; in book 3 you will see how that works out. I'm actually afraid of seeing the Abbies brought to life!
  8. The REAL Olivia would never have said that crap about Stabler, not in a million years. And having Johnny D grab an officer & commit suicide-by-cop was very lazy writing. Whoever okayed that extremely unflattering blue dress for Olivia should be fired.
  9. This episode intrigued me enough to buy the first book, which I read in one night. Totally freaked me out, which I had thought was impossible at my age. Knowing what's going on will not deter me from watching the rest of the series; really looking forward to seeing the book come to life.
  10. Barb gave the gun to Russ herself, for safekeeping. That's when I knew exactly what was going to happen, and it played out just as I thought. After all, Russ had absolutely nothing to live for and no one to talk to; this was his way of finally "standing up for" his family. I, too, thought for sure Hector would not be allowed such a hopeful happy ending. He ought to buy a lottery ticket.
  11. Whatever this series' faults, the acting has been extraordinary. But the only way I will be totally satisfied is if they spend the final 10 minutes showing what really happened.
  12. It's almost like Phil is working out some personal feelings about mothers by reading the riot act to ones on the show who just need help and treating the horrible monsters with kid gloves. Hey Phil, you can't change what you don't acknowledge!
  13. That laptop was the one Mark & his Minions set up to spy on Ryan's niece. In the raid, Tom found it first and kept it when he saw video of his girlfriend sleeping with Mike. He's been using it to monitor her and drive himself crazy. I totally forgot he was in "The Wire"! I really loathe his character here.
  14. But Ryan did tell them to stay off the computers and they just looked at him like "really?". Maybe the FBI is the craziest cult of all. Please give Joe a stay of execution so we can continue with his dream encounters with Ryan! Purefoy & Bacon are having so much fun, I don't want it to end.
  15. The Gambling Mom was the first complete episode I've watched in weeks, and I just don't get Phil's methods anymore. He rips into every mother on the show who's at her wit's end trying to deal with some "precious child" from hell, but this one he handles with kid gloves. He had no useful advice for the daughter and treated her mother-in-law like she was the problem. That daughter probably left the show feeling worse than ever and thinking that her mother will change. Honey, I can tell you from experience that ain't gonna happen; she's erased all the bad things from her memory so she can continue to be the victim.
  16. Tess can go jump in the ocean as far as I'm concerned. She cheated on Alec AND let him take the fall for her mistake; now she wants to bask in the glow of his love while holding him at arm's length, knowing full well how much he wants her back. Pure ego, that one. I find Claire fascinating, but maybe that's because I remember her from Torchwood and nothing would please me more than seeing Captain Jack again.
  17. I would watch "The Slap, Part 2" if it involves someone slapping Rosie. Preferably me.
  18. Everyone wants Aubrey to get better, except Aubrey.; she's made that very clear. And now that she's achieved the junkie's dream of shuffling off this mortal coil, I want her to stay dead and give Carter half a chance at some kind of a life.
  19. There's the purchase inspection, but also a bank inspection if you're getting a mortgage and an inspection by your homeowners insurance carrier. No insurance company is going to let you get away with ignoring the kinds of problems that have been turning up on this show, and it seems like an awful lot of trouble to buy a house with structural or safety issues with the hope that some tv show is going to come along and fix them for you. Now, if the walls were opened and the production company inflicted damage to beef up the story, that's just sick.
  20. This show, and the original recipe, just boggle my mind! First, the outrageous prices of the houses; then, homeowners sitting on property worth a pretty penny who don't take care of said property. I realize a lot of stuff is producer-driven, but producers certainly didn't cause a fire inside the wall on the latest show. Maybe the homeowners are just pretending to be ignorant, but why would you go on tv to have people think that you're too stupid to own a house? For a free renovation that's well within your budget anyway?
  21. The group that suggested Beth help "rehabilitate" pedophiles/child murderers must be out of their ever-loving minds. She should have hit them with all that venom she's been directing at Ellie. Lee/Jarvis is so gorgeous I just forget the show when he's on camera. He and Claire remind me of a thoroughly evil Cathy & Heathcliff.
  22. I haven't seen any evidence that Aisha is particularly smart except for the fact that she got through medical school. There are certainly smarter ways for her to handle these messed-up personal relationships, but she doesn't show much insight. I laughed out loud when she called Connie "naive". Connie may be careless, but she's not innocent. I watched the first episode of the Australian version and it did absolutely nothing for me. YMMV
  23. I don't understand why these women are so protective of Rosie. Nothing they've shown has convinced me she's anything other than a delusional and overprotective parent. So Connie has Daddy issues; how.........ordinary.
  24. I don't think the show has gone "off plot" at all. Every episode has had something related to the incident and we are getting character development. I certainly didn't think it was just going to be the slap, the trial, the end. Totally agree with you, JudyObscure. Everyone saw what was happening, but no one thought to speak to Hugo's parents or the party's hosts, or even Manolis, the patriarch? A couple of family members banding together could have pressured Rosie to leave, but they turned a blind eye and let things escalate.
  25. I liked this episode too, mainly because Brian Cox, the first Dr. Hannibal Lecter, is one of my favorite actors. What 5 year old announces his own bedtime? And when Rosie said "we'll go to bed together" I just knew they have one of those "family bed" arrangements. That may be fine for some people, but combined with the other crappy parenting decisions (one of which will surely be Rosie homeschooling Hugo) that kid is going to need some serious therapy.
