  1. I saw a clip of the leads and thought wow! what chemistry! I was going to watch this but lost the will to do it after I was told a certain thing and now I am not going to bother. Why would they do something so stupid? And yes I am aware of historical events. But they don't call it historical fiction for nothing.
  2. While it says it was the season finale, that was the series finale by the way. It was a nice bonbon of a series for me. One of the things I liked about it that it didn't have the usual moral condemnation of "fallen" women ala Jenny Jones. Lady Bellaston wasn't a villain because she had a sexual appetite, she was a villain because she was a vicious bitch. I hope she devours Blifil whole.
  3. This is all going to end on a cliffhanger, isn't it?
  4. It may be the generic American accent and the generic way he is written but the show has really damaged what I used to find attractive in Richard Madden. I know he is a good actor but it's not evident here. I was hopeful last episode but that was short-lived.
  5. This is the first episode I was actually surprised by something in this show. It's all been very generic for me, from the action to the plot. But the reveal of the wife made me perk up because I did not expect it. I think it's delicious and ironic that Mason created his own fake life. I suspect the child is going to be the one really screwed over in all of this. It's all very contrived but I am more interested in the remaining episodes now.
  6. I'll add to the chorus of loving this show and then sniffling through the final episode and outright bawling at the end. I also want to know what happened to Reynolds.
  7. Am I the only one who likes this show? The third episode was my favorite so far. It helps that I find Tom very endearing. Sure, he can't keep it in his pants but he is such a good egg and doesn't want to hurt anybody's feelings, lol. This period was so outrageous and great fun fashion-wise - but with dubious hygiene? Did head lice have a field day? Never mind the morals. From what I understand the Regency wasn't really any less licentious, though probably less in your face about it. The only character I really abhor is Blifil. I just want to punch him repeatedly.
  8. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_History_of_Tom_Jones,_a_Foundling @Daff, the show is based on a very important classic novel, a bestseller and a comic master piece, one of the first novels ever. @gingerella, he looks like Jamie's younger brother to me!
  9. Yes, the tone of this show is very slap-sticky. I am not used to PBS period pieces being like this, ha. I figure it's only 4 episodes and it's not going to leave things up in the air. I had to read the book way back when for English class and I remember it being very bawdy then. As to the diversity casting I got used to it watching Bridgerton. From what I understand often people of color where actually treated with less racism when living in England than they would have been when English people encountered them in the colonies. I used to watch The Jewel in the Crown and that was definitely the case for the character of Hari Kumar. As for our heroine, don't under-estimate what being a rich heiress can do for some racist pig suddenly becoming "enlightened".
  10. I doubt I can re-watch the whole movie. I found the depictions of animal cruelty and abuse very hard to take.
  11. I doubt anything will debut for when it was planned, given that the writer's strike could easily last 6 months.
  12. I'll watch the sequel. Characters will remain for it that I find interesting. Costner has long had a rep for being difficult and a diva in the industry so I am not surprised this is all going down this way. I am neutral on McConaughey so I will give him a chance. I think all the people who love Rip would watch him in the sequel.
  13. If this is the improved version I shudder to think what the other version is like.
  14. Speaking of the male assassin, I was kind of disappointed they killed him off before the final episode. I found him one of the more interesting characters in the show. I couldn't predict his every reaction and the guy who played him is a good actor. I wanted his psycho partner to go first, ha,ha. This was diverting enough but I certainly don't need a second season.
  15. I like it a lot, especially all the actors, including our couple, both charmers. The thing you have to get right when you are adapting Tom Jones is that Tom isn't some callow seducer. And they are doing that well. I already want to smack the heir. The actor who plays Tom looks quite a bit like Jamie from Outlander.
  16. I hope this link is going to work.. https://youtu.be/LheiQPTdHWU This was the Mandalorian panel at Paley Fest 2023. It shows exactly how much Pedro Pascal hates The Mandalorian (insert eye roll to indicate sarcasm) I am shallow so my favorite moment was Pascal putting Dave Filoni's hat on. Also, Dave Filoni is a very funny guy and Katee Sackhoff is gorgeous and funny.
  17. There was a time when I thought Richard Madden might make a good James Bond (right after I saw him in Bodyguard). But when I saw Bullet Train I changed my opinion to Aaron Taylor Johnson. But whoever will be the next Bond Madden is doing himself no favors being involved in this rather generic action drama fancied up with an obviously high budget. His role is rather generic too. Not a good audition if he wants to be Bond. I'll continue watching but it doesn't have that special something for me and I don't like the gore.
  18. There was also Lord Byron's only legitimate child, Augusta Ada King, Countess of Lovelace (née Byron; 10 December 1815 – 27 November 1852) an English mathematician and writer, chiefly known for her work on Charles Babbage's proposed mechanical general-purpose computer, the Analytical Engine. She was the first to recognise that the machine had applications beyond pure calculation, and to have published the first algorithm intended to be carried out by such a machine. As a result, she is often regarded as the first computer programmer. (Wiki) That woman was a genius. And considered eccentric. I am sure it was probably easier to be "eccentric" if you were an aristocrat and had the support of your aristocratic husband, like Lady Lovelace did. It would have been so hard for a commoner to even get the opportunity to go against society norms for women. As to our fictional character Charlotte, she was only able to teach at that school because her husband "permitted" it. Had he said "no" she couldn't have done it. Once a woman married her husband had a lot of legal rights over her. That's why it made a lot of sense for Edwards aunt to spurn her suitor at the altar. She had gotten to love her independence over the years.
  19. You betcha that this show only suddenly got uncanceled when Bridgerton hit it big on netflix.
  20. I agree that nothing adverse would have happened to her. This wasn't the MA where they had absolute power monarchs. I looked up who would have been king during that time period, and it was George IV, the one who came after the wackadoodle George. This George was an overweight and promiscuous man who spent way too much on frivolous things. He wasn't overly bright and unpopular with his subjects. Just write him a diplomatic letter flattering his ego and make it seem her moving on is his idea. A new shiny would have caught his eye soon anyways. Well, this was an ending. Happy endings ranging from the satisfying to the ridiculous, to the meh! Charlotte teaching school soon after having a baby was ridiculous. Ladies did do charitable works but not in these circumstances. I didn't like Otis ending up with Georgianna. Wasn't it him who participated in her kidnapping in the first season to pay off his gambling debts? I am pleased about darling Arthur and the Duke, Susan and her dream boat lawyer and the vicar's sister and Herr Doctor. I am tickled about Edward becoming a clergy man. We saw him already eyeing another lady. Hopefully he'll give some bored married women a thrill and some good councel to a few people in need. Sometimes a sinner becomes a saint? Eh, probably not in this case though. I would like to see Jack Fox in other things. He is a good actor, not a surprise given his family. My mother likes both his father James and his uncle Edward. Those Foxes have got it going on.
  21. In addition to season 4 being written it's been reported on industry and production sites that Mando season 4 is in pre-production to begin filming in October. I trust those kind of websites more than anything else. I had to learn the hard way that you cannot trust fan sites even with millions of followers as many of them have various agendas that conflict with what I like and want from the show. There are the Disney haters, the Grogu haters, the sequels haters, the Pedro Pascal haters. And all those youtube channels whose bread and butter is constant negativity.
  22. Maybe this was the end of this particular book in the Mando-verse. It had 24 chapters and this was the ending. On to the next book? I think Grogu is becoming a pacifist Mandalorian. I was told those did exist and that Bo's sister was one. Remember when he had to be prompted several times to shoot Ragnar with the paint ball dart? When Din officially adopted him his little chest swelled with pride. The little guy remembered IG-11 bacta-spraying Din in the first season and made sure to spray a lot on Din's helmet and his armor.
  23. Maybe they could bring back Cobb Vanth for the fourth season. I want to see him again and he could fit in well with the "Rangers" elements. And he fits in well with the Western vibe too.
  24. Because it could be if things don't work out with what the creatives are planning? Season 4 is written but not officially announced. And that movie that is being planned is no certainty either considering Lucasfilm track record with movies lately. I am glad there was no cliffhanger and I am hopeful there will be more but just in case I am grateful for this ending.
  25. All of the force use by Grogu was either defensive or protective, or a combo of both. When he did the force field to protect the three of them from the fiery explosion I was in awe of his power.
