  1. Can someone tell me what season I am watching? The last episode I just watched on KPBS San Diego had Father Brown and the two ladies helping Inspector Sullivan who was being framed by his corrupt London superior. At the end the inspector chooses to stay in Kembleford. It's become pretty clear why. Smiles. He is smitten with Mrs DeVine and vice versa. Is this season 10? Per the rules I didn't spoiler this post.
  2. Quoting myself ha, ha. My mother told me that guys in the 23 - 25 age range came across like men to her, now young men but definitely like men. Now to me guys of that age come across as teenage boys usually. And I don't mean that as a compliment.
  3. I don't know whether anybody is even interested but I read today that they are not charging Armie Hammer with rape. This is after a years long investigation. I used to like this actor before he destroyed his life and career when his sexual err habits became public. I always doubted that he was actually guilty of rape but that doesn't change my feeling of ickiness when his name comes to mind. I think he is a cautionary tale of choosing your partners wisely and with discretion when you are into kink.
  4. I have been re-watching Rome because of Ray Stevenson's passing and thought I should squeeze in the Citadel finale to finish the season and that was a mistake. It wasn't good to have the reminder what good story-telling and good acting look like when watching Citadel. I just don't care about the plot and any of these people. I am not going to watch a second season or this Italian variation.
  5. Tina Turner about Erwin Bach. Wow, her luck was really in when she met him at that airport. https://people.com/music/who-is-erwin-bach-tina-turner-husband/
  6. I just watched that video of Tina Turner and David Bowie performing together, and wow! the combined charisma and star power on display there when they are dancing and beaming at each other....made me smile and cry at the same time. After Ike she did have not only a great career but also a great life with a man worthy of her. He saved her life and gave them some more time together. Her energy on stage always made me go, how??? RIP to a wonderful lady and fantastic performer.
  7. I think the doctor was a particular nasty variety of sadist trying to do the most harm possible and reveling in it. He made George even more anxious. If I were Charlotte I would have had him imprisoned so he could never harm anybody else again.
  8. For me his Titus Pullo was one of the great characters. If you haven't seen Rome and him in it you are missing out. Only 58 - what a loss!
  9. I remember him so fondly from Rome, this is going to make it hard to watch this show now. Way too young to go. I was going to say something in the RIP thread but I don't know where it is now. What a bummer.
  10. I saw a clip of the leads and thought wow! what chemistry! I was going to watch this but lost the will to do it after I was told a certain thing and now I am not going to bother. Why would they do something so stupid? And yes I am aware of historical events. But they don't call it historical fiction for nothing.
  11. While it says it was the season finale, that was the series finale by the way. It was a nice bonbon of a series for me. One of the things I liked about it that it didn't have the usual moral condemnation of "fallen" women ala Jenny Jones. Lady Bellaston wasn't a villain because she had a sexual appetite, she was a villain because she was a vicious bitch. I hope she devours Blifil whole.
  12. This is all going to end on a cliffhanger, isn't it?
  13. It may be the generic American accent and the generic way he is written but the show has really damaged what I used to find attractive in Richard Madden. I know he is a good actor but it's not evident here. I was hopeful last episode but that was short-lived.
  14. This is the first episode I was actually surprised by something in this show. It's all been very generic for me, from the action to the plot. But the reveal of the wife made me perk up because I did not expect it. I think it's delicious and ironic that Mason created his own fake life. I suspect the child is going to be the one really screwed over in all of this. It's all very contrived but I am more interested in the remaining episodes now.
  15. I'll add to the chorus of loving this show and then sniffling through the final episode and outright bawling at the end. I also want to know what happened to Reynolds.
  16. Am I the only one who likes this show? The third episode was my favorite so far. It helps that I find Tom very endearing. Sure, he can't keep it in his pants but he is such a good egg and doesn't want to hurt anybody's feelings, lol. This period was so outrageous and great fun fashion-wise - but with dubious hygiene? Did head lice have a field day? Never mind the morals. From what I understand the Regency wasn't really any less licentious, though probably less in your face about it. The only character I really abhor is Blifil. I just want to punch him repeatedly.
  17. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_History_of_Tom_Jones,_a_Foundling @Daff, the show is based on a very important classic novel, a bestseller and a comic master piece, one of the first novels ever. @gingerella, he looks like Jamie's younger brother to me!
  18. Yes, the tone of this show is very slap-sticky. I am not used to PBS period pieces being like this, ha. I figure it's only 4 episodes and it's not going to leave things up in the air. I had to read the book way back when for English class and I remember it being very bawdy then. As to the diversity casting I got used to it watching Bridgerton. From what I understand often people of color where actually treated with less racism when living in England than they would have been when English people encountered them in the colonies. I used to watch The Jewel in the Crown and that was definitely the case for the character of Hari Kumar. As for our heroine, don't under-estimate what being a rich heiress can do for some racist pig suddenly becoming "enlightened".
  19. I doubt I can re-watch the whole movie. I found the depictions of animal cruelty and abuse very hard to take.
  20. I doubt anything will debut for when it was planned, given that the writer's strike could easily last 6 months.
  21. I'll watch the sequel. Characters will remain for it that I find interesting. Costner has long had a rep for being difficult and a diva in the industry so I am not surprised this is all going down this way. I am neutral on McConaughey so I will give him a chance. I think all the people who love Rip would watch him in the sequel.
  22. If this is the improved version I shudder to think what the other version is like.
  23. Speaking of the male assassin, I was kind of disappointed they killed him off before the final episode. I found him one of the more interesting characters in the show. I couldn't predict his every reaction and the guy who played him is a good actor. I wanted his psycho partner to go first, ha,ha. This was diverting enough but I certainly don't need a second season.
  24. I like it a lot, especially all the actors, including our couple, both charmers. The thing you have to get right when you are adapting Tom Jones is that Tom isn't some callow seducer. And they are doing that well. I already want to smack the heir. The actor who plays Tom looks quite a bit like Jamie from Outlander.
