Where was Mark McEwan? I thought he was top judge.
-
Okay, now I remember.

2/5 Mon. and Tues. 0*

I know! I said "Where'd she come from?"

Sadly, this long lapsed Catholic didn't know it. He looked so familiar to me but I couldn't figure out why - now I know.

Murdoch Mysteries - General Discussion

No, that's standard. Look at all the times Jonny Harris hasn't been in the episode but he's always in the credits. The core four have always been in the credits until this year, since Julia is apparently not coming back. Other members of the cast are only in the credits if they are appearing in that episode. I really enjoyed the Dickens storyline. Effie and George together make great detectives. I guess George's plans to take some time to write means he'll be away for a while. Definitely agree. The crime itself in the other storyline with Murdoch and Choi was not very well developed but featuring Murdoch's invention made it much more interesting. Henry, playing the fool, as usual, had some great lemon pie. And so did Watts. I loved the new captain setting aside a room just for Murdoch's inventions. That really meant a lot to Murdoch. -
I guess Alex just isn't all that good with fish and seafood. If the fish smells a little "off" - don't use it! Fish is always iffy enough without it actually smelling off.

Boo, hiss. My first 0/5 of the season - I'm sure it won't be my last.

I really enjoyed this episode. It was fun seeing Rebecca Liddiard but I do not think she is going to be Murdoch's love interest. I think he moved to the rooming house just for the reasons he gave - the house was too lonely and big without Juliet and Susannah and he does like to be around people. But it was an interesting mystery at the rooming house and I did like seeing Murdoch and Choi working together. Re the other storyline with Effie and Brackenreid, I guess the councilman will get his comeuppance sooner or later but I hope he doesn't do any damage to our crew in the meantime. I agree, Miss Cherry is so up and down, a friend one day, maybe not quite an enemy the next but not a friend either. I think her job is everything to her and she would never reveal a source. I don't know if it's a budget constraint that some people don't appear or if it's got to do with the storyline. No sense pushing a character into a story just to say they are there. According to https://murdochmysteries.fandom.com/wiki/Season_18_Episodes_and_Guides, we will see Julia in the 300th episode when Murdoch goes to England to visit her. -
That was pig poop they were shovelling and that is much more pungent than cow poop. No wonder one of the chefs nearly passed out from it. That's twice now the chefs have been kicked out of the kitchen - I worry about the poor hungry customers who are still waiting for their entrees. Does someone else come in and finish the orders?

The uncleaned soft shell crab was from the winning team yet the judges said nothing to the team about it. I thought that would have been enough to make that team the losers. That was a tough start for the competition, but it looked like both teams worked pretty well together with very little drama.

1/5 plus 1* That was for Monday's Coca Cola.

Re FJ, I knew the tv show was The Sopranos but, owing to never remembering when movies were released, I said The Godfather instead of Goodfellas.

I missed the explanation too and wondered why this American could be the station boss. If anyone did catch the explanation, @blackwing and I would like to know. It's obvious to me why the Brits lost the American Revolution and at least this battle of the War of 1812 - those bright red uniforms! -

Season 18.Ep.01 The New Recruit Oct. 7/2024 New opening credits, new station boss, Brackenreid shaves his moustache...so many new things this season. Some change is good as long as they don't go changing everything just for the sake of change. I didn't miss Julia. I know she'll be back soon enough. I think the new station boss will bring a lot to the show. I hope they wrap up the Tucker story line fairly quickly. I'm glad he at least had enough scruples to hesitate burning down the Starbright Lounge. But, whatever happens, I don't think it will end well for Tucker. And Terrence Meyers! I wasn't expecting him to pop up so soon in the season. But, where there's gold, there's Meyers. The actual cotw was okay but seemed to be overshadowed by all the other stuff going on. -

@Grundoon59, I am really going to miss your thoughtful posts until you are able to catch up with us again, which, I hope, will be soon. I hope your move goes smoothly. -
3/5 Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. I felt so stupid for not getting Zion on Monday - I've certainly listened to Rivers of Babylon often enough.
-
I thought it was called a "perpetual motion" thing, didn't know it had another name. Instaget FJ for a change.
-
I missed who won. Could someone put the winner and sous chef, in spoiler tags.
-
For FJ, I said Ghosts first then switched to The Office. I know it was very popular on both sides of the pond but I detested it.
-
Neither have I. I will probably watch another episode or two, until my main shows are back but I wasn't thrilled with this.
-
1/5 0* I got The Scottish Play. I will bring crispy bread sticks with mild and spicy cheese dips.
-
For FJ I thought it was more likely to be an actress than a writer so went with Greta Garbo. If Mae West had occurred to me I would have gone with her.
-
I went in the same direction as you with a guess of Barbara Walters. I didn't know if it would be a politician or a news reporter who would have made the announcement. I thought it was more likely to be a politician but I am not too familiar with San Francisco politics so I had nothing there so went with Barbara.
-
I guessed Edgar Allan Poe for FJ but he was already dead and buried by then. I feel that was a good guess - wrong, but a good guess.
