  1. Isn't Jodie Foster also good friends with Mel Gibson? I read she was one of the few people to stand with him during his, ahem, troubles.
  2. I'm not if it's been said already, but Florence Kasumba who appeared in Civil War as one of the Dora Milaje (I believe it's been revealed her character is Ayo) will reprise her role in the Black Panther movie as well. In case you forgot her scene with Black Widow:
  3. If anyone was interested.
  4. Is that how he is in the comics? I guess the critics were expected a main character more in line with what we got in JJ, DD, and LC and were disappointed.
  5. Well he did grow up in a monastery in a another dimension raised by male monks (I assume) if you can consider that sheltered.
  6. After seeing Finn Jones's hair in Iron Fist, his hair in the EW pic is SO much better. Hopefully they go with that for The Defenders (and it seems like they are).
  7. I'd love to know more about K'un Lun and its culture. They seem to speak Chinese so perhaps the culture is similar? I hope we get flashbacks the way DD, JJ, and LC had.
  8. Madame Gao is terrifying. I love her. I'm happy she gets to be a main villain. Also, Karen shout out! ETA: From the pilot, I figured Harold would be the main antagonist for Danny but he's actually turned out to be an ally. If he was an antagonist for anyone it was Ward. It really wouldn't be a Netflix Marvel series without one of the characters murdering someone.
  9. Madame Gao's :O face when she saw Danny's qi fist was great. Also did Danny use his qi to expell the needles from his body? That's awesome.
  10. How's Danny going to explain to the credit card company why he needs a new credit card?
  11. I don't know if it was intentional or not (maybe not) but I liked how casually Danny seemed to do martial arts, almost lazily like he barely needed to expend any effort to deal with those Rand security guards. His body language while doing it seemed more relaxed when compared to say Matt Murdock. Probably just sloppy choreography, but it worked for me *shrugs*
  12. I think it's a different case for Colleen, since she's an adult (and I presume the student is a teen) and much more practiced in martial arts than he is. ETA: I liked the realistic aspects of Colleen's cage match. There were a couple of moves that didn't work because the guy she was fighting was so much bigger than her and she had to adjust.
  13. I agree, anything can happen especially where Leicester are concerned. Atletico aren't exactly Barca in terms of free scoring, but they do have a strong defense and a quality striker in Griezmann -- it should be enough for Leicester. But Leicester have defied some big odds before, so Atletico shouldn't be complacent.
  14. Draws! Real v Bayern Barca v Juve Leicester v Atletico Dortmund v Monaco Welp. Leicester are for sure done. They don't have enough quality to beat a team like Atletico. Meanwhile, Ancelotti can get some revenge against the club that fired him.
  15. Why are so many teams choking on the second leg this season? Well congrats to Leicester, they'll be facing the big boys (well mostly) from here on out.
  16. Snow White's Prince is Florian, though I don't believe it was ever mentioned in the film itself (like the Beast's name, Adam in Beauty and the Beast)
  17. The "lunch" scene! Michelle Williams and Casey Affleck were heartbreaking in that scene.
  18. That one scene where Doss pauses for a bit and "speaks" to God before going back to find more men and it's just Andrew Garfield by himself face acting I was like damn you, Andrew Garfield! He earned that Oscar nom.
  19. I wonder if Colleen is going to be portrayed as biracial in the show. I know the actress is biracial, but she passes (enough) for full Asian that they could portray her as such if they wanted to. In regards to the other issues, I think there's a very thin line here (and yes, it is very damned if you do damned if you don't) and it doesn't seem like the show treads it well. I'll still watch it and see for myself but it is disheartening to hear that the show with more Asian characters/themes (mightey whitey notwithstanding) is going to be the one that doesn't do well critically.
  20. Meh, DC has next to nothing for Asians in their shows other than a few temporary characters. At least in Iron Fist we're getting Colleen Wing and few other asian characters. I do agree that in general the CW shows are a bit better at diversity -- it's a pity those show suck so bad. DC really needs to stop basically entrusting one guy with all the properties.
  21. this. I think Marvel missed an opportunity by not casting an Asian actor (it would have only required minor tweaks to his backstory -- basically just make him adopted by the Caucasian Rands) but it is canon that Danny is white so it technically isn't whitewashing. It irks me a bit when people call it that. I've thought a lot about this too. I see people criticizing Finn Jones, but it wasn't him it would have been another white actor. Like you said, I think it depends. In this case, Finn Jones doesn't exactly have the luxury as an actor to be turning a high profile job like this down. Scarlett Johansson OTOH does, so I give her a bit of side eye. I think everyone shares some blame, though I'm less inclined to blame actors -- especially actors like Finn Jones -- less.
  22. I think the cover was just supposed to be the Best Director winner (Chazelle) but after the fiasco at the Oscars Chazele invited Barry Jenkins to be on the cover with him
  23. I don't usually listen to movie scores outside of the movie itself but I loved the one to La La Land. Not the parts where Ryan and Emma sang (tho those were great too) but the score that Hurwitz won the Oscar for. The lovely "Mia and Sebastian's Theme" is so pretty!
  24. I think Nate Parker suffered from that disastrous interview(s?) he gave about the subject. Casey has stayed pretty tight lipped about what he did. And then the nature of the crimes themselves. Parker's caused a lot more vitriol (not that I don't think what Casey did wasn't shitty, but it's harder to ignore gang rape). I do agree that race and privilege play its part, but Nate Parker didn't help himself with his PR. I think this sums it up better.
