  1. Many Vulcans have been portrayed as dickish, though. Despite their logic they can be just as petty as humans (see Sarek with Spock in TOS). Then there's what T'Pring pulled during Amok Time.
  2. So in other words, many fans think they've followed the path of the Star Wars sequels. They've ruined the existing characters, created crappy new ones, and are talent-less hacks who somehow make each successive installment worse than what came before. I just bet they wish they could replicate the far bigger word of mouth and profitability.
  3. The ironic thing about any pitch clock complaining is that the rule was already on the books. To quote: When the bases are unoccupied, the pitcher shall deliver the ball to the batter within 12 seconds after he receives the ball. Each time the pitcher delays the game by violating this rule, the umpire shall call “Ball.” The 12-second timing starts when the pitcher is in possession of the ball and the batter is in the box, alert to the pitcher. The timing stops when the pitcher releases the ball. So people aren't really complaining about the rule, they're complaining about it being enforced.
  4. A true Sisko story would have involved the Romulans figuring out how he and Garak duped them into joining the war, and the fallout from that. I completely agree S31 would have experimented on changelings regardless of whether they were POWs or not. They developed a virus (which was fairly painful, from what we saw) designed to wipe out the entire species, so what's stopping them from experimenting on some live prisoners? Their goal seems kind of stupid (were you planning to brainwash them into working for you too?) but they wouldn't lose a wink of sleep over it. To paraphrase a Bashir and Sloan conversation, you don't let the current war stop you from prepping for the next one. Plus let's not forget the Federation didn't exactly offer the cure to the Changelings the moment they found out about it. Bashir and O'Brien stole it for Odo and Odo was the one who gave it to the female Changeling with the promise of taking it back to the Great Link. Yes, the Federation went along with it, but they had to be forced into action. How is it a Picard story? Maybe it's shaping up to be a situation where he makes a big speech about what the Federation is supposed to stand for.
  5. Is it torture? It's one thing to be trapped without a body, it's quite another to be sharing a new one with your evil brother. If this Data says that this new life is a living hell and please put me out of my misery it's not going to land the same way. In this episode hooking up Data/Lore backfired (geez, who could have seen that coming?), so I'm assuming that next week Data will save the day. Chin'toka is where the original Defiant was destroyed, so I guess Starfleet decided leaving the scraps of all the ships lost that day right there was easier than trying to recycle it. Makes you wonder how many similar locations there are thanks to the Dominion War. Forgot to mention that Seven and Shaw have busted out the "on the run" variant of the Starfleet uniform.
  6. The First Dreamer decided that Nia needed Iris, a woman she barely knows, to help her see the light? Seriously? Plus let's be honest, Iris has absolutely used the unique advantage that being Barry's wife entails. She'd never have met Sue Dearbon and gotten her as a super wealthy benefactor, she wouldn't have all of the inside info, etc. There's nothing wrong with that, but let's not pretend she built her company from scratch with nothing but grit and a can-do attitude. I don't think it's ever been so obvious that they have no idea what to do with Panabaker, but are unwilling or unable to reduce her to glorified extra, so she gets a pointless storyline that's separate from everyone else. Was this the second episode where Barry avoided suiting up? A show titled the Flash should, you know, have the Flash doing stuff.
  7. Looks like season 2 will only be 8 episodes The article mentions that they're still going back and forth about whether they need 3 or 4 seasons to tell the story. There are a few logical places to finish season 2 if they want to end with a bang.
  8. That Lana/Sara fight escalated way too quickly - there's never been any indication she's a slap your kid for mouthing off type of person. Grounding your kid for months for bringing up the cheating, on the other hand, might have been the better response. J&J seem to have the same aversion to masks that Clark has. I hear they're actually pretty good at hiding your identity, especially in a smoke filled room.

    The NBA

The perfect story for those who thought LeBron wouldn't be back this season For those who love him - screw you, jerks who said he was only playing to break the record and conveniently injured himself right after. He's so dedicated he's playing hurt! For those who hate him - geez, how can you be so naive? What a convenient narrative - doctors are recommending he get surgery (so it must be a significant injury) but he's putting out some story of a mysterious doctor who said otherwise. So if/when he misses more time, he's already laid the groundwork for wanting to play so badly he's risking making things worse. What a manipulative bastard. For what it's worth, I don't think LeBron will ever be able to hold up over a full season moving forward. All of the cryotherapy and training techniques in the world cannot overcome the wear and tear of more then 60k NBA minutes. He's not Tom Brady, who could avoid hits by tossing the football away whenever some pass rusher got close.
  10. Only 3 Reds are going to be making more than 3.59 million? That's rough, especially when their highest paid player, Joey Votto, is getting that money for all of the good memories he's provided over the years instead of the Mendoza line batting average he'll likely have now.
  11. The Enterprise-F has been mentioned, but nothing about the E, although she's either unavailable or not important enough to have earned a placed in the museum.
  12. Good thing the fans have their back and will just refuse to watch. No point in having a game if no one shows up, right?
  13. He might become just Data at the end, but the multiple personalities (especially Lore) are pretty much guaranteed to stay with him because they're going to mine drama about whether or not he can be trusted. It also gives them an out if people start bitching about how he's not acting like Data, because he's got all of those other parts mixed in.
  14. He’s been treated as the second most important TNG character ever since the movies started. Generations spent a lot of time on his emotion chip and subsequent shenanigans, FC let him go one on one with the Borg Queen, etc. TOS had the same problem. Uhura was a receptionist and Rand was there to serve drinks and give Kirk someone to comfort in stressful situations. Roddenberry was quite sexist, which is why we never saw Uhura in command even if everyone else was on an away mission.
  15. We know where it was meant to be before they split the show off from the Arrowverse. An east coast location makes the lack of visits to Martha more understandable.
  16. What industry - do you think Camel is shipping out cartons of cigarettes to the far reaches of the Federation? It's the 25th century - if you want one then you ask for it from a replicator. If a replicator can simulate alcohol without the negative effects then they can likely do the same with all sorts of unhealthy stuff. No, it doesn't address the actual smoke (one of the reasons why smoking is a disgusting habit), but tobacco and nicotine are going to be out unless someone really wants it.
  17. Plot twist - the entire season is a PSA about how you should have your corpse cremated.
  18. It's often Jor-El who says Clark shouldn't interfere too much - he's supposed to inspire humanity, not do the job for them. Delivering food in a famine? Well, plenty of good people want to help out, but they can't get the food there as quickly as he can, so he'll step in. However, he wouldn't unilaterally clean out a bunch of warehouses because people are suffering and he refuses to wait for people to get off their asses. I'm not sure if they'll go there, but it would be interesting if the Fortress COULD cure Lois's cancer - would it be fair to use it for Lois but not everyone else? If he did decide to share it with the world, then think of all the people who could have taken advantage of it, but unfortunately for them Lois didn't get cancer years ago.
  19. Clark does NOT do that - if he did Lois would never have married him in the first place. Because that version of Clark would also consider her a delicate flower because of her lack of invulnerability, so he'd be monitoring her 24/7 whether she liked it or not, especially since Lois isn't shy about barging into dangerous situations. He clearly doesn't do that, because otherwise he would have been eavesdropping on her talk with the doctor. As for Nat's new friend, talk is that he's If that's actually true then this it's going to get weird.
  20. That was Ahmed Best (i.e Jar Jar). He played a Jedi in a web show, so I think it's supposed to be the same one.
  21. No reason it can't be all three! I think most fans don't give a damn who's doing what behind the scenes, all that matters is whether or not they're entertained by the product. And for those who do care, the truth almost doesn't matter because many have already decided which side they want to be on. Sure, she's a bully who worked her underlings ragged, abused her power, and was ruining the MCU. Or she's a strong, decisive woman and we all know there are a lot of people who can't handle that, so of course they are going to demonize her.
  22. Why does it feel like they've retconned the distance between Smallville and Metropolis? They seem a lot closer together than they did back in the first season if it's possible to just drive there and back in a couple of hours. Maybe Clark should give Lana one of those signalling devices. I can't remember if John already has one.
  23. In real life the story would have gone national (kind of surprising no one whipped out their phone to record his diatribe and post it) and the pressure would have been too great for him to ride it out. At a bare minimum he would have been placed on leave and some poor sap would have become acting chair anyway.
  24. I can only imagine the chaos in real life if a department had the authority to vote their chair out of the position. Of course, in real life most professors don't want the job - you have to deal with a bunch of extra crap and any pay raise isn't enough to justify the headache.
  25. We've also seen Ezri's mom, and Seven's mom, and Burnham's mom (both bio and adopted), and Torres's mom (kind of). Plus Kes got to meet her alternate future daughter, and Naomi's mom was a recurring character before the writers completely forgot about her. Part of the reason we haven't seen it as often is because Trek wasn't exactly gender balanced back in the day.
