  1. Doctor is absolutely and unequivocally a gender neutral title. Master/mistress has significantly more leeway. Moffat has his issues but having the Master going by Mistress is very low on the list of soap box worthy material. I do hope that Danny stays dead. His death (unlike Rory's) had nothing to do with the Doctor and sometimes good people die for stupid, tragic, and completely ordinary reasons. Clara being in love with him doesn't make him any more or less worthy of a second chance compared to all of the other good people who die in car accidents, etc.
  2. If Korra still had access to her past lives Kyoshi would be telling her to get off her ass and kick Kuvira's ass the same way that she did to Chin. Unfortunately for Korra those spirit vines will probably be weaponized before she can stop Kuvira. Perhaps Zaofu will be blown up.
  3. Well, Mr. Mist was already tried, convicted, and sentenced to death by the legal system and he certainly didn't do anything to show that he was wrongfully convicted. To be honest they could have easily justified killing the guy rather than going to the trouble of locking him up. As for future villains - somewhere Amanda Waller is working out a way to snag these folks.
  4. I wonder if Wells will keep taking off his glasses right before he acts evil. If Joe didn't explicitly tell Barry not to say anything to Iris then there's no reason for him not to spill the beans to his de facto sister. However, Joe did take him in and give him a good home so I can see him being very reluctant to disobey a request like this. As for Joe, well, parents aren't always rational. If anybody ever figures out who Barry is then Iris is high on the endangered list regardless of what she knows. Speaking of danger, Flash villains are usually reluctant to go around on killing sprees. Maybe once we start getting to the bigger names they'll stick to robbery or some other relatively petty crime. As mentioned above there should be some moderately bad people affected rather than just the worst of the worst.
  5. I wonder if Barry will ask Cisco to make his costume bulletproof. At the very least he might want some more padding after that beating he took. Also, maybe they'll make the mask more comfortable. Barry really seems to like taking it off even though it shows enough of his face to still allow the actor to act.
  6. It must not have been much of a crisis if they had room for a business deal on the front page.
  7. There's a line from Game of Thrones where they tell the bratty (to put it mildly) king that if you have to go around telling people that you're the king then you aren't a true king. I wish the Doctor had just told Courtney that if she needs random weird alien dudes to tell her that she's special then she's just confirming that she's not. Or perhaps Clara, a teacher, could have told her to prove the Doctor wrong with her actions rather than begging for his approval.
  8. Humanity did not get this decision wrong unless it's wrong to shoot an animal that has wandered into your backyard and is about to kill you (or your family). They had no way of knowing a replacement moon was ready to go the instant the old one hatched. I do understand why Clara was pissed. Companions sometimes have to make tough decisions when the Doctor vanishes but it's usually because he's incapacitated or busy with something else. This time he voluntarily chose to leave and, in Clara's mind, left her to decide between executing an innocent animal or condemn millions of innocent people to death. That being said, it was right of the Doctor to step back and let humanity choose. Of course, he's usually the guy who ignores what other people want and does his own thing so he and Clara have that in common.
  9. New trailer for the final season. The time jump does allow them to explore the chaos of the Earth Kingdom. I'd imagine that there would be a long civil war among the various factions.
  10. Well, I think this episode is Moffat in a nutshell. If you like his themes and tendencies then this episode was a home run - if you think he should be fired then this episode illustrates why he should be gone. That being said, the idea of the companion being the greatest person ever is something that RTD started - unfortunately, with the frequent turnover that means one upping the previous companion becomes harder without making her the most important person in the universe. Rose made a beaten down 9th Doctor better, Martha traveled the world alone while the 10th Doctor was a prisoner, Donna was explicitly called the most loyal companion, became part time lord, and saved everybody while 10 and a bunch of previous companions were helpless, Amy wished the 11th Doctor back into existence, and Clara has apparently been nudging the Doctor in the right direction for centuries. I imagine that Clara's successor will be the one who somehow created all the Time Lords.
  11. I have no idea if this is actually true but my impression is that the Doctor never destroyed Gallifrey - that was a false memory to cover his true actions as he needed that guilt for his future selves to set the stage for freezing Gallifrey in the first place. All the Daleks we've seen in the new series are survivors of that last day, not Daleks from before the Time War started. Perhaps he rejects soldiers because his own natural inclination (in this incarnation, anyway) is too similar to a typical soldier's instinct and he wants a counterpoint instead? His reaction to the first soldier getting killed is very military (no use crying over a dead man, so move on and save everyone who's left) and that type of coldness can lead to a dark place.
  12. It's still an action show, though. There's a reason why (old) Professor X has never been the main character in any X-Men show or movie. They do need to establish if there's a reason why Korra is so unwilling to enter the Avatar State. If she has an all-access pass to god-mode then she's an utter fool for not using it more often, especially in its non-continuous version. Aang had the excuse of not being able to control/access it but ever since the beginning of season 2 she seems capable of voluntarily entering it.
  13. This is mentioned in the books after Ned resigns - hiring a FM is exorbitantly expensive, to the point where it'd be cheaper to hire an entire army. That's a useful catch in general, otherwise lots of lords would be experiencing mysterious accidents. Heck, Doran would have hired one to assassinate Tywin and watched the Lannisters fall apart if it was a feasible option.
  14. Sucking the air out of her lungs was extra cruel but it's not like air bending (or any other type) isn't capable of easily killing without a special technique. Multiple air blasts would kill a person. Likewise, an air slice could decapitate someone. That being said, there was just enough ambiguity for kids to believe that the queen merely lost consciousness and was imprisoned since nobody is allowed to say killed/murdered/etc. Also, it appears that there is no crown prince/princess. That seems kind of short sighted for a monarch, especially one who looked like she was on the older side.
  15. Isn't this more of a "kinslaying is the ultimate sin" rather than loving Joanna? The show doesn't play it up as much but in the books it is very clear that kinslaying is right up there with breaking the guest right when it comes to horrible crimes. This also leads to a question from another thread: if Yara had killed Theon to spare him future torture does that qualify as OK or not? Jojen was clearly toast so Meera was doing a mercy kill but Theon, while in for various sorts of horror, wasn't in immediate danger of death.
  16. Actor contracts might be a big impediment to doing more than a ten episode season seven, regardless of how they split it up. While we all like to joke about how many characters end up dying the truth is that the majority of the current main characters will most likely still be alive until close to the very end. If everybody is unsigned beyond season 7 then it will probably take a king's (or queen's) ransom to get all of the important players back.
  17. Aang's forehead tattoo was a continuous line from the back of the spine to the arrowhead. If females get the same then they all have to shave part of their heads at least once. Unless getting caught in a net is a disqualification it's not clear if she actually is qualified or not. Tenzin's argument is more along the lines of not wanting to see his daughter grow up instead of you're not as good as you think you are (i.e. the Skywalker problem). Passing on valuable airbending techniques is one thing but Tenzin seems to have forgotten that the majority of Air Nomad traditions and history have already been secured with the Air Acolytes around.
  18. It probably didn't help that she appeared to do everything solo. Some people can raise kids by themselves but Toph needed someone to balance her excessive freedom. It didn't have to be the unnamed fathers but another authority figure would have helped. Who knew that acupuncture was so effective? A lot of characters could have saved themselves a great deal of grief if they had just done that. So did Zuko just get on his dragon and go home? If they know Korra is the target of the evil Fantastic Four then shouldn't all of the big guns be trying to meet up with her (covertly works as well if they're afraid of being tracked).
  19. How about this? Robert dies after his fight with Rhaegar and Ned ends up being named king by popular acclaim while Stannis grinds his teeth in annoyance. Here's the lineup after the dust has settled: King - Ned Stark Hand - Jon Arryn Master of Laws - Hoster Tully Master of Ships - Stannis Master of Whisperers - Wyman Manderly? Ned would not have kept Varys around. Master of Coin - Some responsible lord from the North, Riverlands, or Vale. Grand Maester - Pycelle (since Ned can't appoint his own) LCKG - Barristan Selmy
  20. Sokka went up against those guys when he was pushing 70? That's impressive, especially if he survived the fight. That being said, it looks like these villains aren't straight-up murderers. They could have easily killed Zuko, Tonraq, Eska, and Desna before taking off.
  21. Hey Jack, with a dry cool wit like that you could be an action hero! Cross had to have known he was a dead man walking. I think he did care about Chloe, so why not give her some peace in what may be her last few minutes alive. One possibility for the VP: Ethan Kanin. Secretary of Defense, CoS, and Secretary of State makes for a pretty good resume.
