    The NBA

It's mainly the timing. Portland was out of the playoffs when they shut down Dame. Dallas wasn't in complete control of their own destiny at end, but throwing up the white flag and explicitly admitting it is bad form - you're saying that making the play-in is a punishment. Regardless of whether or not that's true, you're not allowed to say it.
  2. The Department of Temporal Investigations would just shake their heads at such an outlandish suggestion.
  3. He's Bruno's son, isn't he? That's not a spoiler, just speculation. But the only two Metropolis-based black characters we know are Dr. Irons and Bruno. While Dr. Irons isn't actually her aunt, it would still be really weird for them to be in a romantic relationship if he ends up being her son. It would certainly introduce some teen angst.
  4. Well, that didn't take very long. Pete had his moments, but I wouldn't rank him anywhere near the top of the cast.
  5. To paraphrase what someone once told Jack Sparrow - but you did watch. Paramount+ is not doubt thrilled for all of the eyeballs regardless of whether they're brimming with tears of joy or rolling back into their skulls. Being loved is better than being hated, but being hated is better than being ignored. Yeah, there's no way the Borg were working this subtle plan for 30 years. They needed the Changelings to do the dirty work for them.
  6. The same way five people ran the original 1701 when they stole it - pray that nothing breaks because then they're screwed. So I'm assuming Shelby joined the cavalcade of returning TNG guests who have been killed? I mean, she took two shots to the chest right before the transmission cut off.
  7. If Clark was a tactical genius he would have just created a giant hole in the ground. Deadline can't fly, so wrecking the floor would have neutralized him for a while. But yeah, he fell into the same trap that Barry Allen does all the time. You have ludicrous speed, so use it!
  8. Say, wasn't Kyle supposed to go back to using Cortez as his last name? Maybe he decided it would mean he'd lose his nickname and that was too high of a price to pay. I wonder if Clark actually knew about the DoD keeping Bizarro's body. He seems like the type of guy who'd insist on burying him in a quiet place. I bet he wishes there was a Batman on this earth to keep an eye on stuff like this for him.
  9. If they're going to kill anyone (important) it's going to be Fury. Fury's role as shadowy government agent is filled on Earth by Hill and Ross, plus Valnetina is there as an ambiguously evil version. If relations with the Skrulls are in a good place after Secret Invasion then Fury no longer serves a purpose.
  10. And before that, the 82 Braves also started 13-0 and did finish first in the NL West (no, that's not a typo) before being swept by the Cardinals.

Well, looks like the playoffs are set. Phoenix rested all of their stars and lost to the Clippers, so their reward is to... play the Clippers. The Warriors have the pleasure of being able to drive to their first round road games in Sacramento. They're the team with the fourth worst road record, so maybe they'll need all the help they can get. The Timberwolves won despite Rudy G trying to punch his teammate, so they get the 8 seed and a trip to LA to play the Lakers.
  12. You mean they'll make the finale all about another series's character? It worked out so well for Berman and Braga in the Enterprise finale (i.e. the last time creators were pilloried by the fanbase for ruining Trek).
  13. I feel a disturbance in the Force. It's the oncoming storm of fans who are recording their outrage over bringing Rey back and ruining the ruined remnants of what Lucas built.
  14. You can just call him Daniel Jackson if you're a fan of one of those other Star franchises. Of course, now Data is allowed to be a snarky quipster. To paraphrase another character who was really popular in the 90s, with a dry cool wit like that he could be an action hero!
  15. Changelings have been able to travel in space just fine - Laas was able to catch up to a runabout by himself. It's possible they need to morph into a form that can naturally do so, but unless they're stopping on a warm rock every time they need to regenerate, being in space didn't freeze them into some sort of stasis.
  16. Eight episodes down and we STILL don't know what makes Jack so super special. At this point whatever it ends up being is going to be anti-climactic. So, how many fans are going to bitch about how Changelings should be able to survive in the vacuum of space? Even though these Changelings (for better or worse) are very different from the default DS9 version? Raffi likes doing things the hard way, doesn't she? A phaser would have been a lot neater than going into a 4 on 1 fight with just a pair of swords. Worf knows how to get it done!
  17. If they're going to burn time on Khione then her meeting with Carla should have been shown on screen instead of all that time they wasted with Mark. DP's going to be directing the next episode so this was going to be a light week for her regardless, but still. This really was a Legends of Tomorrow episode without the Legends. Goofy time anomalies? Check. Dressing up in historical costumes, plus a knockoff Starfleet uniform? Check. Quirky guest characters? Check. Unusually comic "deaths"? Check. Barry being ridiculously cavalier about time travel and his secret (snicker) identity? Check. That being said, they really should have just gone all in and dropped the Chester/Allegra stuff. At the very least TRY to tease what's coming in the next episode and/or the rest of the season, because what is the hook supposed to be? These past few episodes have been the Flash at it's most mediocre.
  18. Lois is nuts for getting her chemo treatments at Manheim's hospital. No, he won't kill her on the spot, but a stage 3 cancer patient getting sicker and dying in a short amount of time isn't exactly a black eye for the place. Nice that Clark was more subtle in the diner than some of the other versions we've seen when they've had to confront bullies at diners.
  19. It gives baseball fans a leg up on other sports. You think your umps/refs/etc. are bad? We're trying to replace ours with computers!
  20. Let's hope the men can avoid the utter stupidity that's engulfed the women's side. From the ludicrous overreaction to Reese taunting Clark (someone who loves taunting her opponents too, by the way) to Jill Biden suggesting that Iowa should also get a White House invite. LSU won, they are the only ones who should be invited. And it's not like Reese punched Clark (which is something that did happen earlier in the tournament after the Memphis/Bowling Green game).
  21. The cynic in me would say it's because none of the other cast wants to get tied up with DP's story, and she can't just monologue to herself. The vast majority of Khione's non-exposition scenes have involved Mark. Now that he's off to find himself, which lucky person will fill the gap?
  22. I guess the lesson is to never underestimate the "no one believed in us" and "we've been disrespected" aspect.
  23. It would have gotten people to blast her for gloating about getting away with it because she's a rich white woman. She (or her publicist) should be smart enough to realize that the best thing to do is to say nothing and continue on with her life.

Quite the HOF class this year. Dirk, Wade, Gasol, and Parker is right up there with the best groups to go in together. Plus Pop, the fourth person on the NBA coaching Mt. Rushmore, gets in too - ironically enough, during what will likely be his worst season. Of course, the last time he tanked they got Tim Duncan, so maybe the Spurs will get lucky again.
  25. Yup, based on what's been presented there is no avoiding this. Maybe Admiral Pike knows he'll end up on Talos with Vina, but Captain Pike doesn't, so he's committing to a living nightmare for the good of Spock and the galaxy. It does raise the separate question of why he doesn't write a note before the accident asking to be euthanized, or put in stasis, or something other than just sitting there. Maybe he thinks that's part of the deal required to save Spock.
