  1. I LOVE Winona Ryder. Heathers and Mermaids are two of my favorite movies ever. Girl, Interrupted did introduce me to Angelina, but I loved Winona in that movie. I definitely related to her character, and the monologue she has with Whoopi Goldberg's character toward the end of the film breaks my heart every time.
  2. To be honest, I am glad it IS being made because it's a story I haven't heard. Yes, while it is annoying when people of color are pushed to the sidelines, this movie doesn't qualify. This movie isn't about the slaves. It's about Newt Knight. It's telling his story. The movie's not usurping a story of a person of color in order to tell this story. Apples and oranges, IMO.
  3. I love Prue, but her work wardrobe after season 1 was absolutely ridiculous. Halter tops to the office? What?
  4. I recently just watched Save the Last Dance, and I had forgotten how good it is. It brings back so many memories, and I still want to learn how to do that dance from the final Julliard audition.
  5. I LOVE Bring It On. I rewatched it last Sunday, and I think it's a genuinely good movie. It's funny, and it makes very pointed commentary about cultural appropriation. Princess Sparkle, that's one of my favorite lines in the movie. I also love this exchange: Misty: Relax, it's only cheerleading. Torrance: I AM only cheerleading!
  6. I have been so excited for this movie, and it did not disappoint. I laughed throughout the entire thing. Gosling and Crowe are a perfect duo. I laughed at part I shouldn't have laughed at, and I don't regret it. I loved seeing Yaya and Bomer in this. Rice was definitely a standout and held her own. The woman's glasses KILLED me.
  7. In thinking back, do you think S9 or S11 is the worst season on this show? I ask that question because even though S11 was terribly written, I don't know if it felt as dreary as S9 with the plane crash aftermath. I guess the other argument could be that at least S9 felt cohesive whereas S11 is just a fucking mess. Thoughts? Despite the terrible ghost sex and interns carving themselves up, I really enjoy S5. I love the arc with Derek screwing up that poor woman's surgery, the serial killer, and the eps once Izzie's cancer is discover. "Elevator Love Letter" is in my top ten of my all time favorite episodes. My favorite voiceover is the one in the season finale: "Did you say it?" Love that whole VO.
  8. If Amelia had pulled out a scalpel and stabbed Meredith 1,000 times after she told her that she needed to get her own life, I would have applauded. I say that as a Meredith fan, for God's sakes. I hate Stephanie. Home girl has NO respect for boundaries. WTF is wrong with her? I am sick of Jo and her anti-marriage bullshit. Alex deserves better. It is utterly ridiculous that an attractive, pediatric surgeon cannot find a woman to be with. Seriously. WHAT. To quote someone on the first page of this thread, I volunteer as tribute.
  9. This is the best episode this season.
  10. I HATE MADDIE, CASH, AND FRANKIE SO MUCH IT HURTS. I was so pained by this episode that I could not watch it in full. I'm not even mad at Deacon because he and Rayna shouldn't even BE IN THIS SITUATION. Chip's face when the lawyer brought up all of those offenses while he was drunk broke my heart. He was so blindsided that I just hated Maddie forever in that moment. What in the fuck happened to this show?
  11. Seriously. A botoxed face she is not.
  12. YES to the ending of 12 Years a Slave. I spent the majority of that movie in anger. That was finally the moment I broke down in tears. Big fat wet tears with immense sobbing.
  13. Holy shit. Deadpool is number one three weeks straight?! That's amazing. I'm so happy for Ryan Reynolds.
  14. I really don't think that Ryan Reynolds is limited. Do I think he'll win an Oscar? No. However, every movie I've seen him I thought he was believable and did a good job. I don't think it's so much about him not being a leading man so much as it was he was picking shitty projects. Definitely, Maybe, The Proposal, and Just Friends all did well. I am so happy he has a box office hit under his belt again.
  15. Maybe he doesn't get what he did wrong because he did nothing wrong. I had no problem with the end of MoS. I cannot wait for Wonder Woman. It looks to be headed in the right direction.
  16. I'll be honest. I loved Neighbors, and I laughed out loud at this trailer. I will see this.
  17. I really don't see the big deal about Jennifer Lopez being at the GGs. She was once nominated; therefore, you are welcomed (even invited?) to come back every year. The Oscars, well, she's an actor with a big following. I'm not seeing why we should be up in arms about Jennifer at any major awards show. Then again, I love me some J.Lo.
  18. I have seen this sentence quoted from the books 1,000 over the Internet. 99.99% of the time, unless the author has a fetish for mentioning the characters' race in the book repeatedly, a "white face" means "scared", "frightened." That would be a basic reading comprehension question on any standardized test: "What does 'white face' mean in this sentence?"
  19. The name of the HBO documentary is Casting By. The Director's Guild can suck it, IMO.
  20. I saw this play about a year ago with two of my professors in those parts. I lost my shit. I can't imagine the movie being any more powerful than that.
  21. I don't understand how Steve Jobs flopping at the box office is indicative of there being no nominations for Kate Winslet or Michael Fassbender. I've never looked to the Academy as really giving a shit about box office performance, especially considering that Kate is an Oscar winner (and has multiple nominations) and Michael was previously nominated for 12 Years a Slave. Personally, I'd be upset if neither one received a nomination because they both did fantastic work in that movie. Leo definitely should have won for The Wolf of Wall Street if Chiwetel couldn't win for 12 Years A Slave. I love Matthew McConaughey, thought he was great, but I would've picked those two over him that year.
  22. There is nothing exaggerated about racism, and there is nothing fabricated about the War on Women. I think some research might be a good idea. I loved that this ep addressed both racism and sexism. "Check your white privliege" indeed.
  23. This movie is excellent. I was enthralled with Michael Fassbender's performance. He transformed to play Steve. It was amazing to watch. Kate Winslet is great as his head of marketing/best friend. I loved that this movie put a good amount of focus on his relationship, or lack thereof, with Lisa. I could clearly tell that the relationship was driving force of the movie without losing focus on Steve's career. I loved the scene between Steve and Lisa during the iMac launch. I felt immensely conflicted about his character, which is a credit to the writing and acting. I thought Jeff Daniels and Seth Rogen were excellent as supporting cast members. The exit of Steve from Apple cutting back and forth to the conversation with Scully was very well done. It had excellent dramatic tension.
  24. I loved this episode. All the racial stuff? So fucking on point it's ridiculous. As a black woman, I really appreciated it. I also felt bad for Olivia. Yes, she chose to have an affair, but she is being raked over the coals because she is black and a woman, her accomplishments be damned. That is infuriating to me.
  25. I thought this movie was great. It was charming, funny, well-paced, well-acted, and worked in every way. This movie felt very pro-women to me, and I really, really appreciated that. Anne Hathaway and Robert De Niro were magical in their roles.
